Silhouetted Street Fighter V Combos: desk Goes Extra Artsy

Akuma came pre-loaded with one of the coolest glitches ever: if you connect a Raging Demon and then reset the match in the middle of it, you will only see character silhouettes instead of the fully colored models. This is definitely not an intended feature of the game, but makes for some awesome visuals.

Who else to capitalize on such a cool glitch but the sultan of cool glitches, desk. Utilizing this he assembled this combo video–featuring every character–that is equal parts stylish and awesome.

Wong Who, Bill Bull and G. Oriber Headbutt Their Way into the CFN Portal in These Latest Profiles

After taking a few weeks off, the CFN Portal site is back to posting profiles once again, continuing the Shadaloo Activity Report’s look into the members of the Mad Gear Gang from 1989’s Final Fight, this time focusing on three of the gang’s portlier members, known for their powerful charging headbutts: Wong Who, Bill Bull and G. Oriber!

Private Nakagawa: I think there were many of you who were surprised by a sudden headbutt charge from offscreen. That sound, THOOM, THOOM, THOOM, was so scary!

street-fighter-v-wong-who

Basic Info:

Name: Wong Who
Height: 191 cm
Weight: 214 kg
Blood type: 0
Birthday: March 8th
Home Country: USA
Likes: Karaage, Sweet Foods in general
Dislikes: Useless Efforts

Private Nakagawa: A giant active in the vicinity of Metro City’s harbor. He earned his living from weapon smuggling and contraband. He has a big tiger tattoo on his back. It seems he has a relative able to spit poison from his mouth, active in an Asian organization specialized in drugs. [It seems Wong Who’s related to T.U.S.K from the Nguuhao, who was killed by M. Bison during their failed coup attempt against Shadaloo.]

Next up, we have Bill Bull!

Private Nakagawa: Another one of the headbutt brigade. Sometimes he dished out a powerful front kick. He drinks, rages and breaks beer bottles. Scary, scary!

Basic Info:

Name: Bill Bull
Height: 195 cm
Weight: 212 kg
Blood type: B
Birthday: April 2nd
Home Country: USA
Likes: His Original Cocktail, Watching Baseball
Dislikes: Exercise

Private Nakagawa: He’s renowned for his original cocktail, in which he mixes Worcestershire sauce, shōyu, mustard, Chili oil and dressing. It seems that he’s recently enjoying mellowing it with honey. He tried a diet once, but it didn’t last long.

Rounding out the trio is G. Oriber!

Private Nakagawa: He’s the last member of the headbutt brigade. He has the strongest kicks amongst all its members. Well, at least he thinks so.

g-oriber-street-fighter-v

Basic Info:

Name: G. Oriber
Height: 191 cm
Weight: 209 kg
Blood type: A
Birthday: September 4th
Home Country: USA
Likes: Hamburgers, Fatty Foods
Dislikes: Police

Private Nakgawa: He has great faith in himself, and always tyrannises people. He boasts about his sideburns, that he never forgets to trim. Apparently, he doesn’t use an electric shaver, instead insisting upon using a straight razor. The G. in his name stands for “Graham.” [I also suspect that “Oriber” was actually Oliver (again, its kana interpretation goes both ways). That would nicely fit Capcom’s tendency to randomly reference rock artists in Final Fight.]

That wraps another set of CFN Profiles. For a look at more Mad Gear members, take a look at Axl, Slash and Roxy here, as well as El Gado and Holly Wood here,  Bred, Dug, Jake and Simons here, and TWO.P and J here. Stay tuned to Shoryuken, where we’ll bring you more CFN Portal site profiles as they’re released!

TheoryFighter Discusses Character Selection for Street Fighter Players in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

One of the most difficult processes in learning a fighting game is picking a character that matches your personality and playstyle. When you are transitioning from one game to another, it becomes even more difficult when the game and mechanics are dramatically different than what you are used to.

Given the entry barrier and confusion for Street Fighter players who attempt to move to a more technical-heavy game such as Guilty Gear, TheoryFighter’s Street Fighter Guide to Guilty Gear has become a major asset. In this episode, we see the character select screen broken down from the viewpoint of a Street Fighter player.

Athena’s Classic The King of Fighters ’98 Costume Is Now Available for The King of Fighters XIV in North America

Following the costume’s release a couple of days ago in Europe and China, the classic King of Fighters ’98 costume for Athena Asamiya is now out for The King of Fighters XIV owners in North America. While the costume is part of a holiday pack in Europe, the costume comes by itself in North America. While this omission doesn’t really affect the game itself, it does mean that North American players are missing out on a couple of well-made PlayStation 4 themes, complete with custom music and icons.

Athena’s classic KOF ’98 costume is currently available for free for North America for an unspecified amount of time. Interested players should head on over the PlayStation Store to download it.

Street Fighter V Servers Will Be Down for “Urgent Maintenance” This Morning

Some post-launch cleanup for Season 2?

Since that big patch rolled out Tuesday night, there have been complaints about the Street Fighter V server stability, particularly in Ranked and Casual matches:

Capcom is taking the SFV servers down for an hour this morning–between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM PST–for “urgent server maintenance&#8221$$ hopefully to address this Season 2 launch hiccup.

Here’s hoping SFV online is running smoother when they come back up at noon.

Microsoft Studios Reimagines Chief Thunder’s Look with the Help of the Nez Perce Tribe

Chief Thunder has been one of the favorite characters across the Killer Instinct series since its inception. He has, however, been seen as a negative stereotype of Native Americans based on his original design. This has been something that Microsoft Studios has aimed to correct since acquiring Rare. While they initially got his look closer to accuracy, it just wasn’t enough. So what is a design team supposed to do?

They brought in the experts. The result of a collaborative effort between the design team and the Nez Perce tribe of Lapwai, Idaho, the Legend of Thunder costume is meant to be the most faithful representation of a Native American in any game to date.

This new skin for Chief Thunder is free for owners of Killer Instinct on both Xbox One and Windows 10.

My Smash Corner Offers His Opinion on the Smash Box Debate

Over the past month, we’ve heard many community leaders chime in on a large scale debate concerning the legality of a new controller for Super Smash Bros. The discussion has been intense and wide-spread, so you’ve likely heard something about it by now. As simple as the topic can be boiled down, the “Smash Box” is a new controller designed in the same breath as the HitBox where it is entirely controlled by buttons as opposed to analog or arcade sticks. The concern is that making this legal could lead to all manner of mods eventually making traditional players incapable of competing without modding themselves.

While the main hump that was being discussed was tournament legality at Genesis 4, a decision for that event has already been made in the Smash Box’s favor. Despite this, the conversation is far from over; other tournament organizers will need to come to their own decision on the Smash Box itself, as well as the prospect of any mods to GameCube controllers that may suddenly seem acceptable.

In the vein of this discussion, we have a respected voice in the community chiming in. While My Smash Corner primarily contributes to the community with tutorials and helpful videos, they take the opportunity to try and assess this topic from all sides objectively. Their take is inclusive of both sides of the argument, and they do a good job of striking an objective middle ground.

Partially related, you can also hear My Smash Corner’s take on what decides if something gets banned in competitive play. You can also follow up on this overarching Smashbox discussion in our other articles on the subject, with Hitbox Dustin or Hitbox Gravy, as well as some outside perspective from Yahoo! Esports.

Who is the Superior Skeleton? Spinal Mains from Around the World Take on UA|Bass’ Spinal Gauntlet

Throughout the life-cycle of Killer Instinct, there has been a subset of players who think that skeleton warrior Spinal is overpowered. While his ability to drain an opponent’s Shadow and Instinct meter to replenish his own in Season 2 did make him a real threat, he’s never been as utterly dominating as other members of the KI cast.

To help those who struggle against the cackling corsair and as a challenge to other Spinal players out there,  UA|Bass called on all other Spinals to try and beat him in a first to ten set to claim the crown of the skeleton king. With many fighters answering the call, Bass has collected a large collection of replays, showing him dueling against other would-be claimants to the bone throne.

Bass plays a variety of characters during these sets, ranging from his legendary Spinal, to his Mira, his Cinder, his Shadow and normal Jago. It’s a lot of footage but it acts as a fantastic resource for those struggling to defeat the undead pirate. You can find the playlist of all the matches below so sit back, grab a notepad and prepare to enter the bone zone.

Super Smash Bros. Pros Talk Aesthetics and More in theScore’s “Ask the Pros” Series

One of the tough parts of playing fighting games competitively is the fact that we get so involved with frame data and mechanics that we so often stop paying attention to the aesthetics. It’s doubtful that most people were not attracted to these games on hitboxes and hurtboxes alone, but through its characters, the stages and its music.

Thus, when reminded of aesthetics, it’s interesting to hear what top players think about their favorite stages, themes and such. So when theScore talked to the top Smash players at Smash Summit 3 back in November, it was interesting to hear what some of their picks were.
