At their recent tenth anniversary event for the series, EXAMU had an early Christmas present for Arcana Heart fans: during the event, producer Koji Takaya came on stage to announce that a new Arcana Heart game is currently in production.
First launching in arcades in 2006, the Arcana Heart series has had 3 numbered installments so far. The last of these, 2009’s Arcana Heart 3, has also had 2 major updates (2013’s Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!!, and 2015’s Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX SIX STARS!!!!!). This new announcement likely represents the first new numbered installment of the game in 7 years.
Street Fighter V is getting new stages when season 2 hits tomorrow; this means, of course, we get new stage themes. For those looking to listen to the theme for Akuma’s Temple of Ascension stage, XMikexSonicX has uploaded the multiple versions of the theme onto YouTube. This theme was included in the initial beta leak we covered, but the videos below include the extra conditional variations to the theme.
The themes feature a mix of dubstep and 1980s and early 1990s martial arts movie theme influences, combining the traditional instruments of the latter, with the former’s distinct beats and samples.
In addition to this, the stage also has special themes that play at the end of each round.
Street Fighter V fans eager to secure Akuma and his fellow five yet-unnamed Season Two DLC fighters can now purchase the Season 2 “Character Pass 2017” for PlayStation 4, for $29.99 USD. This grants access to next year’s new fighters, their premium Battle Costumes, and their costume colors 3-10 unlocked for both their default and Battle Costumes. The pass can be bought directly through the PlayStation Store, or by selecting “Special” in Street Fighter V’s in-game Shop. As of this writing, the Character Pass 2017 has not appeared in the Steam store yet.
To facilitate the arrival of Season Two, Street Fighter V servers will be down for maintenance tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST.
We will perform scheduled server maintenance from 9am to 5pm PDT on 12/20 (TUE). Thank you for your patience and continued support.
Continuing to develop the three versus three arcade fighter, Square Enix and Koei Tecmo have revealed the new stage coming to Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade in its December content update. Coming from Final Fantasy XII and the hometown of protagonist Vaan, Rabanastre has players fighting within the castle grounds of this capital city.
As the fight rages on, the skybox of Rabanastre lights up as airships do battle with the Sky Fortress Bahamut, replicating one of the key story moments from Final Fantasy XII. Big story moments happening in the background of stages seems to be a recurring theme in Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade, with the Midgar stage showing the Meteor plummeting towards Earth, or the summoning of Alexander happening on the Alexandria stage.
If you want to see what a typical battle on Rabanastre looks like, check out the trailer below. It also acts as a mini-showcase for Vaan, as he beats up Final Fantasy villains like Garland and Kefka while he defends his home.
Being in Japan as part of the winning UK team from the Red Bull 5G finals, ImStillDaDaddy has made it his mission to train against some of Japan’s top players while he is in the Land of the Rising Sun.
On his travels through Japan, he has stumbled across some of the best Alexes in the world. So who is the more American: a British Guile or a Japanese Alex? That question will be answered after watching these sets. Someone’s going home to be a family man after this.
For the most part, super moves tend to be used as combo enders in Street Fighter games, including Street Fighter V. Being able to combo out of them is a rare attribute, one we haven’t seen in Street Fighter V. That is until now.
In this new video, the RnK Clan demonstrates how–at least in the PC Beta–Akuma can combo out of his Sekia Koretsuha super, if he combos into it with the right set up. They key is to combo into the super from his V-Skill launcher kick. This places the opponent high enough that, when the super hits, Akuma can still follow up with a Shoryuken.
What makes this interesting however, as the video below demonstrates, is that Akuma can combo into said V-Skill launcher kick, possibly making this a practical thing to do for Akuma.
After yet another historic Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Saga put on by Champ and the 2GG team, the fun is not going to stop there. In a special announcement from Champ following the conclusion of ZeRo Saga, he announced that 2GG, in association with the Esports Arena, will be holding a Smash 4 tournament circuit in the new year: the 2GG Championship Series.
With 12 Sagas over 12 months, players will fight for 20 qualifying spots at the 2GG Championship Finals to be held at the end of 2017. Players can qualify for the Finals by either winning a Saga event and gaining an automatic spot, or by getting there via points gained from top 16 placings. To add a little more of an incentive to attend certain Sagas, each fourth Saga will be a season finale, where players will earn double points for placing within that top 16. These season finales will be two to three day events, similar to ZeRo Saga while normal Sagas will be one-day events.
If this isn’t exciting enough, 2GG are putting up a $100,000 prize pool, with $50,000 going across the 11 qualifying Sagas and the other $50,000 going directly to the Championship Finals. This is the largest prize pot in Super Smash Bros. history, so you can bet your bottom dollar the world will be coming to compete.
As sort of a stealth reveal in between this massive announcement, 2GG confirmed that January’s Saga will be titled Genesis Saga, being held the weekend before Genesis 4 on January 14th and that Civil War Saga will be the spring season finale. Civil War Saga will have its own special $30,000 pot bonus, independent of the 2GG Championship Series pool, and a special $10,000 10v10 crew battle between Team Ally and Team ZeRo.
I don’t know what sort of black magic Champ and the 2GG crew have pulled off to make this thing happen, but they are catapulting Smash 4 forward in terms of production values–so congratulations must go to them for putting this whole circuit together. For details on all of the upcoming Sagas, keep your eyes trained on the 2GG Championship Series smash.gg page for continuous updates throughout the year.
Red Bull’s Bonchan narrowly missed out on a berth to Capcom Cup this year, with his last chance being at the Asia Regional Finals. Standing in his way was none other than Kazunoko, who sent him to his ultimate fate in loser’s bracket.
Naturally, this is sort of a runback for Bonchan, who is ready to rebuild for Season 2. Will his Nash prove to be enough to beat Kazunoko’s Cammy this time? Or will history repeat itself?

Gathering clips from Bowser players from all over the world, the Project M Bowser Discord has created this special combo video, made of the best clips of the Koopa King styling on his foes. While Bowser is rated fairly low on the PM tier list, his ferocious hits and aerial command grab allow him to get some brutal edgeguards if his positioning is right.
Seeing clips from notable Bowsers like Can~D, Frost|Odds, SS|American Bowser and Jorge, you can see just how devastating this fire breathing turtle can be when he gets going. If you are at all inspired to try Bowser out after watching this community combo montage, poke your head in the Bowser Discord and learn how to play the Mario villain properly.
If you want a recap of this year in Project M, give reslived’s 2016 retrospective a watch, as it charts the efforts of the PM community to keep the game thriving after development officially stopped.
