Hunting for the Perfect Gaming Router? XusesGB Thinks He’s Found It

If you’re a serious player of any competitive game–especially fighting games–you know how important network latency is while playing. If anything goes wrong in the connection, you can find yourself facing input lag, rollback, teleports and the like.

Buying a gaming router helps to mitigate these issues, but not all routers even in this category are created equal. So which one should you get? XusesGB believes he has found an answer to this question.

Recently, he received an R1 model gaming router from NetDuma that he was asked to review, and he held a highly favorable opinion of the equipment. In his review video, he showcases some of the router’s impressive features, such as the ability to filter connections via distance from you and ping before you even connect to your opponent. You can also block players from connecting to you from within that same radius if they still have poor connections, or even if they use cheats such as lag switches or continually disconnect.

While more research needs to be done into this router, this looks impressive, and could be the exact router you’re looking for.

Stop, Look, Listen, Punish: GimR Demonstrates the Power of Audible Tech Chasing in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Punishing tech options in the Super Smash Bros. series is an integral part of high level play. If you can successfully read your opponent’s tech following a knockdown, you can oftentimes continue a combo or guarantee a kill. However, due to the four different tech options in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U–tech in place, no tech, tech towards and tech away–it can be hard to anticipate which option your opponent will pick in a tournament setting.

Going into the lab to research how to tech chase effectively, VGBootCamp’s GimR has made quite a significant discovery regarding reading tech options. For a large variety of the cast, they make an audible cue upon teching in place, usually a grunt or some type of exertion sound. Combine this with the fact that every character makes the same sound when they miss a tech–it’s a thudding sound–you have an easier time of narrowing down how to punish a tech.

When you combine this with the fact that the audio cue comes on out the first frame of a tech and that your audio reaction time is a third quicker than your visual reaction time, you will always have enough time to punish the two static tech options with a hard punish, like Fox’s up smash or Cloud’s Limit Cross Slash.

The rolling tech options both take 40 frames to complete, compared to the 26 frames of both no tech and tech in place, meaning you have almost double the time to react to those options. Once you commit those tech in place audio cues to memory, you pretty much have the answer for every single tech option for a decent portion of the viable cast. All you need to do now is make sure you play on a setup with headphones.

SSFC2016 Wraps Up Its Tournament Season with Virtua Fighter 5 and World Heroes 2 Tournaments

Hold onto someone you love, dear friends. Super Street Fighter Carnival 2016 has ended.

If you’ve been following along, then you are aware SSFC2016 is Mikado Arcade’s 2 month long journey through the wildest arcade games imaginable. SSFC2016 started the season off with King of Fighters 95′ and Samurai Showdown 3 tournaments, and now we’re wrapping up this gauntlet with Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown and World Heroes 2.

VF5FS is the latest installment of the Virtua Fighter series. While it’s true VF has receded a bit into the background of modern tournaments, there’s no question that the skill of these players is as sharp and fresh as ever. Considering we were just watching the high damage, uneven terrain, ring out heavy Virtua Fighter 3 recently, it’s pretty interesting to see how far the series has come.

World Heroes 2 is the 1993 2D fighter from ADK and SNK. This odd little Street Fighter clone is a surprisingly pure choice for finishing out fighting games at SSFC2016, but it’s a treat all the same. Just old school, classic footsies employed by fantastic players. It would be a few years before the series beefed up the speed with World Heroes Perfect. Though they didn’t play it at SSFC this year, it is worth noting that Mikado certainly knows how to play that game, too.

I highly recommend you subscribe to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. Though SSFC2016 may be over, they run great events for lots of games all the time!

King of Fighters XIV’s Classic Athena Costume May Be Coming on December 20th

A could of days back, SNK announced that Athena’s classic costume from King of Fighters ’98 would be coming soon to the King of Fighters XIV. Now, it seems that we may know when the costume is coming.

According to an article posted on Chinese site Gamersky, KOFXIV’s distributor in China, Gamepoch, has announced that the costume will be available for free from December 20, 2016 to January 5, 2017.

Take note that the above is likely only for the game’s Chinese language version. Whether or not the costume will drop for other versions on the same day is as of yet unknown.

In addition to the Athena costume, a couple of free PS4 themes will also be released on that day – a Christmas theme with Athena, Yuri, and Kula, as well as a classic Athena theme to go with the costume. These themes can be accessed by downloading the upcoming graphically updated demo for the game.

Itabashi Zangief and Donpachi Flex and Throw Down in These Street Fighter V Sets

It’s beginning to look a lot like pro wrestling in this set between two grapplers. DNG|Itabashi Zangief has been the perennial Zangief main for as long as anyone can remember–he wears his character in his name, after all. But when paired up against Donpachi–one of Japan’s premier Alex players–you can expect a lot of muscle to be thrown around in this match.

Watch these two grappling fiends in these two first-to-two ranked sets, and enjoy the tension of the spacing game the matchup offers.
