There Won’t Be a BlazBlue: Central Fiction Extend, Mori Says

In the latest Weekly Famitsu, Toshimichi Mori answered some questions regarding BlazBlue: Central Fiction. While many fans predict the seemingly inevitable Extend “expansion” to the game, Mori said there’s nothing like that planned.

As the story mode teeters around 30 hours of content, Mori explains that Central Fiction has enough content to last a long time. At some point, he would like to do a balance adjustment to the game, and potentially add new characters should there be demand for them (*cough*, Jubei). What’s confirmed is that the producer’s next venture is not fighting-game-related, and will be something in a different field. Mori said that fans will “understand” the stance on a BlazBlue sequel if they play through the story.

Curiously, Mori also said that if he were to make another fighting game, he would like it to “upset the balance of what we know about fighting games.”

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is launching on October 6th in Japan for the PlayStation 3 and 4, November 1st in North America, and November 4th in Europe.

Player Voting For Smash Summit 3 Opens on October 10th

Another Smash Summit event means another period of fierce campaigning on social media to decide the six other players that will be entering the Summit house, alongside the 10 already invited guests. The player nomination page has officially gone live over on smash.gg, currently showing off the Twitter bios of 13 players who have put themselves forward to run for the Summit. The Twitter nomination phase goes live on October 10th, with 20 players with the most Twitter nominations going through to the actual voting.

Six players will then be chosen over three rounds of voting, resulting in the final 16 who will go to the Summit House to compete. People can earn free votes through interaction with smash.gg like attending tournaments or submitting fantasy drafts so get busy if you want to stock up on votes for your favorite player. The Summit has made their criteria to be eligible for nomination much stricter, as a player must be ranked in the top 50 of SSBM rank or have placed in top 8 of either Heir 3, Get On My Level 2016, The Big House 6, Super Smash Con 2016, CEO 2016, or Pound 2016. This means only 53 players are eligible for attending the Summit, with 10 of them already invited to compete.

Expect Twitter wars, ridiculous campaign videos and streams, and some beef between players as people fight tooth and nail to attend Smash Summit 3.

Colossal Changes Come to Mortal Kombat X in Today’s Balance Patch

In last night’s special Kombat Kast for Mortal Kombat X, the NetherRealm team showed off the sheer number of balance changes coming to MKX in today’s big patch. From serious nerfs to Alien and Demolition Sonya, to sizable buffs to Goro, Kenshi, Jason, and a couple more kombatants, these changes should shake up competitive play quite drastically, especially with the general engine changes.

Running and cancelling into a dash now costs more energy, and getting hit during a run now drains 50 energy. NetherRealm have also a “Kounter” message that appears on screen whenever you successfully land a counterattack or punish. You can read the raft of changes over on the official patch notes page and watch the Kombat Kast VOD on Twitch to see all of the changes in motion.

Official Pokkén Twitter Sets Date for New Character Reveal in Pokkén Tournament Arcade Version

The Season 2 teasing continues! While American players are still hoping for Darkrai’s release into the US market, The official Pokkén Twitter is teasing a new character reveal on 10/13. While we have some idea on what Pokémon could be announced, it is all speculation until the 13th arrives. The graphic specifically mentions a battle Pokémon, and the announcement seems to be singular in nature, so odds are good that if the previous leak is true, the remaining two ‘mons are not a support set.

Mark your calendars, Pokkén Monsters.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction Europe Release Date Announced

European fans awaiting for BlazBlue: Central Fiction can rejoice, as their release date has finally been announced. November 4th is the magic day that the latest BlazBlue title will arrive in Europe and, with hype steadily mounting, the day can’t come soon enough.

The North American release date has been confirmed to be November 1st, so it may come as a surprise to hear of a Europe date announced so close in proximity, considering the length between North American and European release dates of BlazBlue titles in the past. Not many details to report at the moment, but we are likely to see some of the same DLC and pre-order perks offered with other regional releases soon.

Vice Publishes Editorial about Street Fighter V’s Place in Esports

Media outlet Vice just published an article that is a commentary on the current standing of Street Fighter V in the world of esports. The writer, Gareth Dutton, reflects on his trip to EGX 2016 and how some of his observations become personal revelations of what the Street Fighter scene and even the fighting game community is like in the grand scheme of things.

Gareth illustrates how his interactions with “The Beast,” his observation of the pro’s behavior offstage, and comparisons of other esports sponsorships helped shaped his updated perspective. He notes his love for Street Fighter and reverence for the idols in the FGC, but also how–outside of the community–it may not mean as much to those who are involved. He writes:

It suddenly hits me how strange this situation is. In the eyes of a fighting game fan like me, Street Fighter is huge. It’s the most famous fighting game series in the world, the very definition of a household name, and gathered here are many of the world’s top players all milling about in the same hundred square feet of space. But there’s no security, no barriers, no PR reps – there’s just the players, and the fans.

The article is well-written and includes points that Street Fighter fans–especially tournament goers–should find relatable. There are also some high resolution photos from EGX 2015 that include close-ups of top players, and are worth checking out. You can the full article here.

Guarantee a Stage Spike on Cloud’s Up-B, with This Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Guide from the Beefy Smash Doods

For Cloud’s many strengths in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, getting back to stage safely is not one of them. While the Limit version of his up-B is good for recovery, standard Climhazzard is very easy to exploit, due to it not autosnapping to the ledge and how easy it is to challenge off stage, as Cloud players are forced to recover in set trajectories. With some extra digging and research, the Beefy Smash Doods have discovered another way to exploit Cloud’s up-B, which results in an untechable stage spike and a dead Midgar swordsman.

After frame 17 of Cloud’s up-B and until the freefall animation begins on frame 26, Cloud cannot tech any surface after being hit by a move. So, if you are able to hit Cloud in this window of opportunity, he cannot tech the stage and avoid being stage spiked. Combine this with the fact that Cloud only snaps to the ledge on frame 28 of his up-B, you have a sizable window of opportunity to punish a Cloud that is recovering low.

Multi-hit moves and command grabs do cancel out this property and funnily enough, if Cloud gets the spin animation that occurs 25% of the time once your character goes past 100% damage, you can actually wall tech even if you are hit during this window on his up-B. While it won’t have Cloud shooting down the tier list, this tidbit of information does make coming back to stage even harder for Cloud players. As if it wasn’t fun enough already.
