Should You Upgrade to PS4 Pro for Your Fighting Games? No, According to Maximilian

Sony has recently revealed the future of the PlayStation 4 console in the unveiling of the much-expected slim PlayStation 4, and the more interesting PlayStation 4 Pro–that powered-up PS4 “Neo” that we;ve been hearing about for quite a while. PS4 firmware update 4.00 has just gone live, and it not-so-coincidentally includes a transfer utility to make it that much easier to move your games and data over to a shiny new PS4 Pro. But the question is: if fighting games are your focus on the console, is there any benefit to dropping cash on the beefy new machine?

As Maximilian discusses in the video below, basically: no. When you factor in that the upgrades are primarily visual–and that for fighting games to work properly the frame rates need to be standardized, and many high-end 4K displays may still suffer latency issues–there’s not really any incentive for fighters to make the switch, at least not yet. Next year’s biggest releases–namely Tekken 7: Fated Retribution and Injustice 2–have not yet indicated they will take advantage of any visual upgrade the PS4 can provide.

Of course, the advantages to other genres may be well worth your while if that’s your bag; Maximilian also talks about some of the upcoming games he’s looking forward to that will indeed benefit from the graphical boost.

Channel Your Saiyajin Ki with This Goku Mod for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U’s development was beset by borderline unreasonable demands from many fans of the series. So much was asked for from so many different people, but one of the more popular of them was bringing The World’s Strongest into the ring. Despite the outcry, fan requests fell into a Dead Zone as far as Nintendo was concerned, but the requests didn’t go unheard.

Avid Smash Modder KTH recently took up the challenge of bringing the beloved character to Smash, using Ryu as a base. Being a skin for Ryu, a character known for searching for the true Path to Power, his Shoryuken takes on a whole new meaning. Unleash the Wrath of the Dragon with this Mod today!

Arcade Hacker Project Releases CPS2 Desuicide Method to Public

A few months ago, we reported that the Arcade Hacker Project had successfully reverse engineered the security protocol on Capcom’s CPS2 arcade system. The result of this effort would allow arcade boards that had stopped working to be resurrected by software means, rather than by invasive hardware means that put the board itself at risk of permanent failure.

Several months passed with the team testing their methods to ensure that everything was correct. Finally, today, they have released their method to the general public. While the process requires some additional hardware, including an Arduino Uno board, anyone with dead Super Street Fighter II Turbo or Vampire Savior arcade boards lying around may find the investment well worth it. This could also be extended to people who may be able to find dead boards on the market so that they can get a cheap CPS2 board for their collection.

Please follow the link here to get the instructions and shopping list for the project.
