The Final Fantasy XIV site has a pair of updates today of interest to the community. The Stormblood microsite has been updated with information released recently. You can find out more about the red mage / samurai, new screenshots and concept art and much more. In addition, former players can take part in a new log-in event for up to 96 hours. It’s a great way to get reacquainted with the game and see what’s new.

Final Fantasy XIV players will be able to take part in the annual Hatching-Tide event beginning April 4th and running through April 17th. During the special ‘egg-citing’ season, players will be able to earn a “reporgrammed eggshilaration system” for the duration. Yeah…riding a colored Easter egg as it lumbers through the air.

If you remember a month or two ago, we reported that Japan had created a live-action television show based on Final Fantasy XIV. Called “Daddy of Light”, the show centers on a father and son who both play the game and bond through their shared experiences. Netflix will be rolling out the program to Japanese audiences in mid-April and that a Western version will be released some time after and keep the original series title.

If you’re still waiting to try out Final Fantasy XIV, this may be the right time as the 14-day limit on the free trial has been lifted. The experience is now unlimited, though there are restrictions in place. Any experience or items gained during the free trial will be transferred to the full version if purchased. Lastly, anyone who has previously tried the trial can restart it at any time.

Square Enix has posted a note on the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone to remind players about the ongoing “Callback Campaign”. From now through an unspecified date, players can choose to send a special email invitation to a former player on their friends list. If they come back to FFXIV, both players can score some pretty phat lewt.

A Japanese television drama based on Final Fantasy XIV has been in production for some time now. The production company recently released the opening credits sequence for Final Fantasy XIV: Daddy of Light. According to sources, the show is based on a father and son who play the game together that strengthens the bond between them. Let us know what you think!

The latest Final Fantasy XIV patch has been deployed that brings a number of interesting content additions. One of the coolest is the ability for players to participate in “custom deliveries” that ultimately allow them to “build better relationships with the people of Eorzea”.

On the evening of the Frankfurt Final Fantasy XIV Fanfest there was a cosplay contest to celebrate the joy of final fantasy. There were 30 entries selected for the final stage presentation. From those seven were chosen for additional recognition. One each for most unique, most detailed, and most entertaining. Then the final three judges choices followed by the best in show.
