It seems that next week is *the* week for the games we love to start up the holiday events. ArenaNet has posted via Twitter that the Guild Wars 2 event, The Shadow of the Mad King, will be starting on October 17th.

ArenaNet is prepping some nifty goodies for the holidays, all themed around the Guild Wars 2 expansion, Path of Fire. You’ll be able to get hold of a Quaggan mug (currently available for preorder), a Choya plushie (currently available for preorder), the Path of Fire soundtrack in both digital and vinyl editions and other items to be announced soon.

In the five years since the launch of Guild Wars 2, players have amassed some pretty amazing statistics including nearly 80 TRILLION earned experience points. To celebrate today’s launch of the Path of Fire expansion, ArenaNet has put together a nifty little infographic to show off Tyria by the Numbers.

For fans of Guild Wars 2, this is a big day with the launch of the Path of Fire expansion mere hours away. If all goes according to plan, Path of Fire should be ready to go at 9:00 am Pacific / 12:00 pm Eastern — right about when a lot of you will be at work. Luckily, it’ll be waiting for you when you get home and you’ll have the entire weekend to hole up and play!

One of the most consistent complaints we’ve seen about the Guild Wars 2 site is its forums for being quite different than 99% of the world’s online discussion software. But all that changes today with the brand spanking new GW2 forums that feature perks such as “single sign-on” using your GW2 log in (displays your game ID), better mobile support, the ability to use avatars, a reaction system, ranks, badges and a robust search engine.

Mounts are one of the cornerstones of the next Guild Wars 2 expansion, Path of Fire. In a new blog post on the official site, Roy Cronacher, one of the mounts team members, spotlights how mounts aren’t just a cosmetic speed boost, but are a “visceral, organic experience that feels like you’re riding a real animal”.

The Guild Wars 2 team is going to be on hand starting right now for a retrospective look back at the game’s five years of live status. During the show, devs will reflect on what ArenaNet has accomplished and showcase its community as well.
