ArenaNet has announced that the campaign for #GW2Friendships has officially kicked off. Players are invited to post their gaming friendship stories on any of the social media pages including YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. Once done, the stories will appear on the Friend/Ships microsite on the Guild Wars 2 page.

With the completion of today’s maintenance, Guild Wars 2 players will be able to take part in Lunar New Year events that begin in the Crown Pavilion in Divinity’s Reach. Activities include Dragon Ball and the opening of Divine Lucky Envelopes as part of the celebration of the Year of the Dog.

For the month of February, ArenaNet is inviting players to take part in #GW2Friendships. The goal is to celebrate the relationships players have built in and outside of Guild Wars 2. Posts can be made and hashtagged on any of Guild Wars 2 social media including YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr or Facebook.

A longtime Guild Wars player named Flora “Siadina” Hunsucker lost her home recently to a tragic fire. She lost everything, including two beloved dogs, though her cats survived. The local fire department allowed Siadina to return to her home to pick through the ashes for anything salvageable. In the wreckage, she found a nearly undamaged copy of Guild Wars: Nightfall. She took a picture and tagged ArenaNet on Twitter. Then the magic began.

Guild Wars 2 players can log in today to get hold of a special Customer Appreciation Package that includes a Black Lion Chest Key and a Black Lion Chest. Chests can contain some new items including two random drops, a guaranteed seasonal item and a Black Lion Statuette. Black Lion Chests can also contain baby griffons or mini yellow jackal pups. But most interestingly, there is a new Garden Plot Deed that you can add to your home instance.

The Guild Wars 2 site has been updated with a new blog post from Raid Designer Byron Miller to discuss the design of the Hall of Chains raid. The post begins by examining the planning process along with some nifty behind-the-scenes drawings and concepts for the encounter. From there, the design moved to the implementation stage. There are some spoilers in the post so consider yourself warned!

Guild Wars 2 is ready to unleash Wintersday on Tyria starting December 12th. The annual event will run through January 2nd and will bring the holiday spirit to everyone during the “beloved Tyrian tradition”. As always, players will be able to enjoy some of the game’s best-loved events including The Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle.

If you’re in the mood for more Guild Wars 2 story, today’s a big day with the launch of Living World Season 4 Episode 1: Daybreak. In addition to story, you’ll find a number of other new features including a new legendary focus, the Twilight Oasis fractal, and the Hall of Chains raid.

Yesterday, ArenaNet announced that new “Mount Adoption Licenses” are now available at the Guild Wars 2 Black Lion Trading Company. For 400 Gems, players receive “an available animal at random”. Every box is said to contain a unique breed, though players are unable to purchase specific versions. Rather the “drop” from the purchase is randomized. This latter fact has set the community on fire with the GW2 Reddit thread on the subject beating out previous “top threads” from the past.

Guild Wars 2 is now decked out for Halloween with the return of the Shadow of the Mad King event. It’s set to run through November 7th and features tons of fun activities with a chance to score weapon / armor / mount skins. Of course, you’ll have to put up with “tricks and treats and terrible jokes”, but it’s all in the name of fun, right?
