Lord of the Rings Online players, be sure to mark your calendars for this year’s Yule Festival. The annual event has started and will run through January 8th. Events include a seasonal show at your local playhouse, a big battle in the Snowball Arena, an eating contest, special events and vendors in Festival Square and more.

The latest producer’s letter for Lord of the Rings Online has been published that lays the groundwork for what players can expect going to 2018. The letter begins with a recap of 2017 including the fact that this was year one for Standing Stone Games as well as taking players beyond the Black Gate.

HUGEsound Records has sent word that the Lord of the Rings: Mordor soundtrack will be released worldwide on Wednesday, November 1st. The soundtrack has been composed by Chance Thomas, “an avid lifelong fan of The Lord of the Rings”.

One of Canada’s most celebrated personalities died earlier this week. Gord Downie was a member of The Tragically Hip and passed away from brain cancer on October 17th. In a poignant new blog post, Lead World Builder Chris Pierson has written about Downie’s influence on his work on the game and more. To celebrate Downie’s life, he has been memorialized in Lord of the Rings Online, playing the part of Garthebir, the Fortress Keeper, a balding, hat-wearing minstrel.

Lord of the Rings Online: Mordor will get a wee bit bigger after today’s maintenance with the addition of a pair of new instances, one for a 6-player Fellowship and the other for a 3-player Small Fellowship. Six players can take on the Dungeons of Naerband while three players head to the Court of Seregost.

It’s time to get your overalls on and head into town in the Lord of the Rings Online Farmer’s Faire. Not much has changed this year, though rewards include a new horse and a new cloak.

With today’s release of the Lord of the Rings Mordor expansion, players will finally be able to journey beyond the Black Gate. Players will explore Gorgoroth, enjoy a level cap increase to 115, be able to try out the new Allegiance System and much more. Of particular note is the updated Human and Elf avatars complete with new bodies, heads, mouths, eyes, eye / skin color.

The Lord of the Rings team has updated the status of the launch of the Mordor expansion. It was originally set for release on July 31st but a persistent issue cropped up to stop the deployment. That issue has been tracked down and all systems are go for the Mordor launch on Wednesday, August 2nd.

The Lord of the Rings Online site has been updated with the sad news that the launch of the Mordor expansion will not happen on Monday, July 31st as originally planned. The team discovered an issue with the build that made monsters and NPCs move incorrectly. While sad for those looking forward to Mordor, the wording on the expansion does give an out by saying it will be delivered on or before August 31st. The target was July 31st, but there is still plenty of time to head through the Black Gate.
