This leads me to my weekend Kickstarter discovery. While doing my weekly browse through Kickstarter I came across a hardcore sci-fi space MMORPG that has raised $10,000CAD. The game is called Nebula Online.

Ah, NPCs. They are such a staple in our MMOs that we not only take them for granted, but we can also ignore them. I always make an attempt to appreciate an MMO’s details, and NPCs are often some of most well-designed aspects of many of our favorite titles.

MMOs are inherently about being online in a world or at least a zone with other people playing simultaneously. But just because they’re around, doesn’t mean you need to always be playing with someone else. At least, that’s what the MMOs of the modern era have become. So today’s quest, should you choose to accept, is to answer "How often do you group up?"

Love is in the air this time of year. Stores are lines with pink and red decorations, flowers poke out in every direction, and romantic gifts are littered across the aisles. In fact, the upcoming holiday Valentine’s Day just so happens to be on a Saturday this year.

Free to play MMOs are in a significant position in the market today, as things have shifted toward a fewer strings attached model over time. First mostly limited to imported, cheaper games funded entirely through cash shops, today’ s free to play game may be from a AAA developer or a small, independent one. A new report released last week looks at player retention—how many players continue to play a given game–in free to play MMOs and features some important numbers.

In 2012, Nexon purchased a block of stocks in NCSoft and became the largest shareholder. Pledging at the time not to interfere with NCSoft’s management, Nexon has since rescinded that statement and has inserted itself, or tried to, in the day-to-day affairs of NCS. Calling Nexon’s style vastly different from its own, NCSoft is keeping track of outstanding stock purchases and calling on Nexon to back off its stance as injurious to shareholders and stock prices as well as its ability to compete.

Names… they’re kind of a big deal. Especially in MMOs where they can often telegraph what kind of player you are. Know those guys who call themselves Goku this or Drizzt that? Probably not taking the game as seriously as Lord Reginald Wellingsworth the 3rd. But how much does your character’s name matter to you?

Haemimont Studios, best known for the Tropico series of strategy titles, has revealed that it is hard at work on a new action-RPG called "Victor Vran". A trailer has been released to show off the game-in-progress and it seems very similar to Van Helsing and the Diablo-series of action RPGs. See what you think and let us know in the comments.

RPG fans will be interested to check out the new Izle trailer by Area Effect that shows of game play details for the "100% procedurally generated worlds". According to Area Effect, Izle is a sandbox action RPG that brings player choice and creation to the forefront but each not without true consequences.

Miracle Positive has announced that its Japanese sandbox action RPG Airship Q has received additional funding and is in full development for both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita.
