Haven’t made up your mind on Pocket Rumble yet? If you didn’t play any of SNK’s Neo Geo Pocket Fighter games, the impact of nostalgia may not be there for you. But fear not, nostalgia is not all the newly ported Switch Fighter is running on — behind the cute sprite-work and chiptunes is an incredibly solid and interesting fighting system:
For a quick taste of what each character has to offer, TeaMandem has put together a selection of combos for every character in the game. Included are a few reset tricks, demonstrating the potential for incredible momentum. Check out those corner mixups from Hector, or June’s teleport rush down!
Pocket Rumble is now available for the Nintendo Switch, and is in early access on Steam.
Want to see some beautiful Soul Calibur VI action from the latest build of the game? UK players SilentJoel, Mr. E, kTalon, Hyrul, and Andyroo were invited to try out the latest — and mercifully shared their first-to-3 sets with the rest of us.
Those hungry for new footage of the semi-recently announced Siegfried, Zasalamel, or Geralt will want to check out the sets above, in particular. Those concerned about Geralt transitioning properly should be impressed by his strong mid-range pokes, stunning command GI, and assortment of solid lows.
It seems that Bandai Namco’s Jump Force isn’t the only Shonen Jump fighting game in development. Konami has released details of their own fighter based on the storied manga publication.
Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadium is a four-player mobile platform fighter that presents characters from multiple Shonen Jump franchises as super-deformed “Janjan Characters” from Konami. The game will feature characters from 39 Shonen Jump titles such as Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Dr. Slump, Hunter X Hunter, and My Hero Academia when it launches on iOS and Android later this year. In addition to this, characters and franchises are planned to be added sequentially after release.
Being a mobile game, Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadiumuses a simplified control scheme that allows players to pull off special moves (SP moves) with only one button.
More info about the game is set to be released on both Shonen Jump and V-Jump magazines in the future. In the meantime, check out the trailer and some screenshots.
The time has finally come, PC warriors! As the latest version of the Under Night In-Birth, aptly subtitled Late[st], arrived on consoles earlier this year, many fans were eager to see if it would arrive on Steam as well. Arc System Works PC developer Shini just announced the Steam version of the game Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] on Twitter.
The Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] Steam page lists the release date as August 20th, this year (it will be August 21st in Japan). The teaser image Shini posted does list the Force of Fragment digital soundtrack, and he confirmed that it will be available as free DLC until August 28th, a full week after the release. If the Steam version is in-line with the console edition, it should cost $49.99.
For those who don’t know much about UNIST — While it does have a heavy anime aesthetic, it’s unlike typical air-dashers like BlazBlue: Central Fiction or Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2. It’s a bit more footsie-oriented and rewards good defense. At the center of its mechanics lies the GRD system, a sort of tug-of-war mechanic that can shift the tide between players. It features 20 unique characters, most fairly easy-to-approach but difficult-to-master.

Most people are familiar with HiFight for the various gameplay highlight clips shared on Twitter. However, it turns out that they has something else for fighting game fans — their own game.
In a recent tweet, HiFight announced their own freeware fighting game — Footsies. Here, players only have one attack button, and can only move (walk or dash) either forward or backward. They’re also given 2 normal attacks, a crouching forward kick done by pressing attack, and a standing knee, activated by hitting back and attack. Both of these normal attacks can be cancelled into one of two specials.
The special moves are done by holding down and releasing the attack button. The first of these special moves is a kick reminiscent of Ryu’s “Jōdan Sokutō Geri” from Street Fighter III, done by releasing the attack button without any directions held. The second is a Shoryuken, done by releasing the attack button while pressing either forward or backwards.
The game’s hyper focused gameplay is complimented by its highly abstracted aesthetic. The characters are simple, pixelated outlines, with animations based on Ryu from Street Fighter III.
In a way, the game takes a similar approach to Divekick. The main difference here is that its core mechanics are built around a more familiar mold — the the footsies and neutral game of games like Street Fighter.
Twitch gaming fans have helped raise over $2.7M for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ahead of this year’s GuardianCon in Tampa, Florida. Funds were raised through a charity marathon with over 190,000 people viewing game streamers on Twitch. There were a ton of incentives for donations including Ninja dying his hair if donations got to $50,000 or that he would get a tattoo if donations hit the $200,000 mark. Ninja even offered to drop all his Fortnite items for every $500 donation
This weekend is another double-header for the RED BULL CONQUEST circuit: this time Dallas, TX and Saint Paul, MN will be the arenas for two more qualifier events. The action starts on Saturday, July 14th. Hopefuls will test their skill in Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, and Tekken 7 to earn qualifying spots for the National Finals in Washington, D.C. in November. From the press release:
Red Bull Conquest continues this weekend with the search for Dallas and Saint Paul’s top fighting game competitors! On Saturday, July 14, the two cities will play host to fighting game enthusiasts as they battle it out to determine each city’s top players in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, TEKKEN 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2. The winners from each city will earn the title as their region’s best, and will travel to Washington, D.C. this November to compete in the Red Bull Conquest National Finals.
In addition to the rousing competition, both cities will have notable FGC competitors in attendance. Being no stranger to the fighting game scene, it’s no wonder that some of Saint Paul’s finest will be coming out to play. Among them are Street Fighter champ Joe “Mo-Joe” Porter, winner of Chicago’s Frosty Faustings X in Chicago last January, and “Mahreen,” known for her show-stopping cosplay and cutthroat SFV moves. Meanwhile in Dallas, avid Street Fighter athlete and part-time esports commentator Jarret “Magneto1080p” Austin will be in attendance.
