Vulcano Rosso, Pullum Purna, and arcade mode are coming to Fighting EX Layer for free

This extraordinary game is getting expanded with some extra characters and an arcade mode.

During the development of Fighting EX Layer, ARIKA mentioned that it would love to expand the roster of the game with more classic Street Fighter EX characters if the game sold well enough. Now, it seems that the game has found more than enough success to warrant additional content.

ARIKA announced that both Vulcano Rosso and Pullum Purna will be coming to Fighting EX Layer. The fact that these two were chosen should come as no surprise as ARIKA has previously teased them, rendered in Unreal Engine 4. Perhaps even more exciting is the price, both characters will be available for Fighting EX Players to download at the extraordinary price of $0 — yes, both will be coming to the game for free.

Additional details on Pullum and Vulcano Rosso’s release are set to be announced at Evo 2018. In the meantime, ARIKA has shared these images and backstories for the two extra fighters.

Vulcano Rosso

arika_EX_Vulcano_Rosso

-After graduating from the Organization, Rosso began his new life as the “Narcissist Detective”.
-Although initially, he didn’t intend on taking a request from a certain rich princess, once he heard the target was Jack he changed his mind.
-Besides, he has to collect the money Jack owes him from their Poker games!

Pullum Purna

arika_EX_Pullum

-After her father’s disappearance, Purna rose up and governed her country in his stead.
-While trying to figure out a way to escape from the boredom of her daily life, Purna discovered a clue about her father’s disappearance.
-After sharing this information with her people, Purna declared that she herself would go out in search for him.
-Noticing her attendant Darun was also missing, she resolved to search for him as well.

Exude exceedingly exquisite expressions of excellence, thanks to these new features.

In addition to these two excellent additions to the cast, ARIKA has also confirmed that a proper Arcade Mode is also coming to Fighting EX Layer. This is set to arrive in an update planned for the end of July which should also bring the ability to return to Training Mode after an online match.

These are definitely steps in the right direction and a pleasant surprise for those who are already enjoying the title. While waiting for the new characters and features to release, check out Shoryuken’s review for a detailed look at Fighting EX Layer.

Fighting EX Layer is currently available for purchase exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Rage Esports Street Fighter V All-Star League Day 8 results; Team Daigo retakes the lead

The Rage Esports Street Fighter V All-Star League is officially underway, featuring 24 of Japan’s best players in 3v3 team matches. Six team captains were chosen based from the highest-ranking Japanese players on the 2017 Capcom Pro Tour, including Hx.Twitch.CYG BST|Daigo, Echo Fox|Tokido, Fujimura, AW|Nemo, Moke, and Itazan. Captains drafted their teams for the league last week; match play began June 5 and will run until July 28, the weekend before Evo 2018.

The league follows a double round-robin format; each team will play the others twice in a first-to-three set match. During each set the teams select their order and play three matches. The team with two victories will win the set, but each win and loss also counts towards the team’s total round robin score. The three teams with the best records at the end of the both round robins will play each other in the finals on July 28.

The event streams live at 6:00 AM ET/3:00 AM PT/7:00 PM JST at OpenREC.tv. Be sure to check below for the match schedule, and keep up with us for results as the league continues through June and July. You can also check out the official website for the event from Japan-based Rage Esports for more information.

Red Bull Conquest New York City and Nashville qualifier results

The Red Bull Conquest qualifiers for New York City and Nashville were held this past Saturday, July 7, with tournaments for Street Fighter V, Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 in both cities. The winners will represent their region in the Conquest National Finals in Washington, D.C. and will have a chance to win the grand prize of $4,500 and a trip to Evo Japan 2019.

Red Bull Conquest is a national fighting game tournament circuit designed to let players represent their local fighting game scene against the rest of the country. The Conquest circuit kicked off earlier this year in Chicago and will continue through the summer with 15 qualifiers in cities across the country and a single online qualifying event. The SFV, T7 and REV 2 qualifiers from each city will form a three-person team to compete in the finals.

New York is known for having some of the best talent in the nation and the competition at the Conquest qualifier rivaled that of major tournaments. Echo Fox|Punk, regarded by many as the best American Street Fighter V player, reset the bracket in grand finals against iDom and took the qualifier in dominating fashion. Tekken veteran FightingGM secured his spot on the New York team against TCOL|Victim_of_Ritual of Maryland while PAG|LostSoul took the Guilty Gear bracket against TSB|Shine’s Potemkin and JDLWR’s Leo.

In Nashville Tekken 7 was the biggest draw of the day and ITS|Lil Majin came out on top of a bracket filled with southern contenders. Ohio’s HZRDS|RobTV will represent Nashville in Street Fighter V after defeating DFD|MagNegro and NB ADC|Dual Kevin. Ky player and Atlanta native bafojig earned the REV2 spot on the team with a win over KimJongPhil.

Check below for top 8 results from both the New York and Nashville qualifiers. The next Red Bull Conquest qualifiers will be held in Dallas and St. Paul on Saturday, July 14. The full schedule can be found at www.RedBullConquest.com and all events will be streamed at www.twitch.tv/redbullesports.

3rd-person arena fighter “Override: Mech City Brawl” announced for Steam, PlayStation 4, & Xbox One, releasing on December 4th

There has been a sudden uptick of countless 3rd-person perspective arena fighting games, from Pokkén Tournament to My Hero One’s Justice. You could fill an article on its own just counting the titles appearing in this sub-genre in the past two years, but rest assured: there are a lot of them.

Most of these games come from major developer/publisher Bandai Namco, and most of those have been for preexisting major franchises. Indie developer The Balance Inc. is attempting to move in on this market with its newly announced original IP Override: Mech City Brawl.

This new mech fighter boasts some incredible Saturday-Morning-Cartoon level designs (you have got to be dead inside to not appreciate a wrestler mech with a building-sized steel chair) and, in its own words, “competitive” multiplayer. Taking a gander at the official website‘s about page, we can also see there’s some interesting customization options, as well as a 4-player co-op mode:

About

Pilot a diverse roster of epic mechs, each with their own play style, special moves, and finishers. Tower over your opponents and lay waste to entire cities underfoot in local and online versus, co-op, and more.

Key Features

  • Supercharged Mechs – Pilot 12 outrageous mechs of epic, skyscraper-sized proportions, each with diverse fighting styles and unique skills.
  • Real World Locations – Destroy 3D arenas modeled after actual cities and countries, including Tokyo, Egypt, San Francisco, and Mexico.
  • Party Co-Op – Gather two to four friends to engage in party co-op where each player is responsible for one part of a towering mech.
  • The Garage – Customize your mechs in the Garage, changing their accessories and skins to create your own unique style.
  • Multiple Game Modes – Challenge other players in local and online Versus and Co-Op modes and experience Override’s story in a single-player campaign.

Override: Mech City Brawl goes into open beta August 10th-12th (which you can sign up for here) and launches on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 4th.

Kill La Kill the Game: IF creators talk about making a fun arena fighter

Ever since it was announced a couple of weeks back, people have been wondering just exactly how Kill La Kill the Game: IF will play. While the game is an arena fighter, the involvement of Arc System Works has left more than a few fighting game aficionados curious about it. In a recent interview with Siliconera, APlus Games’ director Hideaki Mizota, Arc System Works producer Toshimichi Mori, and Studio Trigger producer Hiromi Wakabayashi got to talk a bit about the game, including its gameplay.

Director Mizota compared the gameplay to other arena fighters, specifically mentioning the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series. In addition to this, however, he stated that with Arc System Works overseeing development, one important keyword for them is “fun”.  As part of this, he states that while they were concerned about character balance, ArcSys told them to pull back and look at the bigger picture. “The game needs to be fun even if you’re playing it by yourself first,”  says Mizota, “and then we can think about balance.”

ArcSys’s Mori talks more about this and the idea of the game “feeling good” the moment a player picks it up. “I think in the world of video games the distinction is made in the first 30 to 60 seconds when picking up the controller,” he states. “It’s really important to get the feeling right.”

Of course, this isn’t the only thing they discuss. They also talk about other things, such as the game’s story and setting, how it won’t have RPG elements (unlike some other arena fighters), as well as how Studio Trigger may be even more strict in terms of visuals than ArcSys. You can read the entire interview over at Siliconera.

Kill La Kill the Game: IF is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2019.

– The Culling 2 Launches Today on Steam – Check Out the Launch Day Trailer

If you remember and liked The Culling, a small-scale battle royale game, you may be interested to note that The Culling 2, a ground-up rework of the original, is ready to launch a bit later today. The Culling 2 is akin to The Hunger Games with 50 players (up from 16 in the original) dropped into a 20km x 20km arena where the hunt is on for both weapons…and the competition. The Culling 2 adds guns to the mix alongside the original’s melee weapons.

r/StreetFighter is building a database of local event results — the Local Fighter’s Network

A new way to support your locals appears!

The Street Fighter subreddit has launched an initiative to expand worldwide results-tracking to include FGC locals: they have launched the beginning stages of the Local Fighter’s Network, a new global stat-tracking system for any and all local events. Here’s the breakdown from r/SF:

If you run a local tournament or take part in local events we want to give you the ability to report and compare your results on a global scale. Just follow the link below, fill out basic information about your event, then check out the results.

Use this link to report the results of your local tournament.

We are not entirely clear on the best way to present this data back to you but for now we just need to build a database of that raw data. Click here to see all current reports. The more locals who report their results, the more useful the data becomes.

This list will also double as a way for players to see what locals are currently active. It will let players know where you are, when your tournaments take place, and allows you to link any additional information to help players support your scene.

If you have any feedback concerning the Local Fighter’s Network please let us know so we can help craft it to suit your needs.

Help put your locals and your players on the map by participating in this data-gathering project!
