ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational begins soon, announces their panel of fighting game analysts

It’s almost time for the second ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational! The esports tournament has announced its panel of analysts that will give us the play-by-play during the brackets. In addition, we’re welcoming a new host to the desk — but otherwise, expect lots of familiar FGC faces.

As usual, we’re going to see the unstoppable duo, Steve “Tasty Steve” Scott and Stephen “Sajam” Lyon, joined by Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo and Zhi “Zhieeep” Liang Chew. They compose the panel of experts. Michele Morrow is the new host. As for the interviewer who will keep us connected to the competitors, Malik Forté returns from last year’s ELEAGUE.

The action starts very soon, in a little over one week: the tournament begins Friday, June 1st, at 11:00 PM ET on TBS’s channel. However, live coverage will start on their Twitch channel that day at 3:00 PM.

However, there is also a preview show airing on TBS this Friday, May 25th, at 11:00 PM ET/PT. This segment will showcase all the ELEAGUE competitors “as well as catch fans up on what makes the FGC unique, along with its history.” There will also be a highlight of JB’s victory through The Challenger reality TV show.

Check out a sneak peek of the show below:

Join a Z-Union and get ready for the FighterZ Cup in Dragon Ball FighterZ

Get ready to represent your Z-Union in the FighterZ Cup!

Following the recent announcement of the new Party Battle Mode that was added to Dragon Ball FighterZ in the game’s latest update, it is now time for producer Tomoko Hiroki to unveil the other new mode for the game: the FighterZ Cup.

Like Party Battles, this will also be a limited-time online-only event, in which each character’s respective Z-Unions will all wage war with one another, in a similar manner to Mortal Kombat X‘s Faction Battles. Each FighterZ Cup will only be held for one week, during which Union members will face off in League Matches, ranked Z1, Z2, and Z3, with the goal of obtaining League Points for their respective Union based off of their performance. There will also be “Performance Prizes” that players can earn by fulfilling certain conditions, providing their Z-Union with bonus League Points, so even smaller Unions have a shot at great rewards.

On the seventh day, results will be announced, with rewards doled out to both Z-Unions and individual FighterZ. The inaugural FighterZ Cup kicked off yesterday — Tuesday, May 22nd — and will last until the 28th. However, since this is the very first event, each Union will have to win a series of placement matches in order to earn a League rank. You can see the full video below.

Tekken 7 console/PC versions to receive a huge free costume DLC update on May 31st

Way back in November of 2017, NJPW fans were treated with a Lars x Tanahashi crossover outfit for Tekken 7‘s arcade version, Tekken 7:Fated Retribution. If you’ve been waiting patiently to Sling Blade fools online as Larsahashi, then you’ll be happy to know that it, and many more new costumes, are hitting consoles and PC versions of the game on May 31st, 2018:

The DLC release (which celebrates Tekken 7‘s first full year in retail) looks to be adding nearly all the costumes we’ve been seen go the arcades for the past several months — including many of the story mode-only outfits. This should be a huge DLC pack, and if this marks a bookend for last year’s Tekken content, maybe that means Namco is gearing up for Season 2…?

Celebrating 22 years of the series, Team Ninja announces “Dead or Alive 5 Evo Showdown 2018”

Dead or Alive fans, your time is nigh! Team Ninja and Koei TECMO announce a special event during this year’s Evolution Championship Series. Dead or Alive 5: Last Round will appear at Evo for the first time. Aside from a tournament, there will be an opportunity to grab special merchandise at the event.

DOA series producer Yosuke Hayashi and director Yohei Shimbori posted the following message:

“To the DOA fans and fighting game fans, thanks to you all we are proudly announcing that DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round will take part in the world’s largest fighting game festival Evo.

5 years have passed since the DOA5 series started and it’s been played by more than 10 million gamers. Meanwhile, the DOA community has expanded to become larger than ever before.

To proceed to the next stage, we announced the end of the DOA5 series in December, but to my surprise the god of fighting games has given us another chance to let players enjoy this franchise at an event once more.

Though it’s a side tournament, the fact that DOA is joining Evo itself is key, and something which we have been longing for over 10 years.

So, I hope you will join and enjoy the show!”

The post also mentions that registration for this event will open at a later date, so stay tuned. If you plan to attend this, make sure to take the first step by registering for Evo 2018.

New competitive-minded performance controller “SCUF Vantage” revealed for PlayStation 4

In the market for a more serious, “competitive-minded” controller for the PlayStation 4? SCUF Gaming thinks they have the product for you in the form of the new “SCUF Vantage” controller.

With this officially licensed product, SCUF Gaming told PlayStation.blog that they believe players will “enjoy a wide range of customization options that optimize comfort and gameplay performance, delivering both precision and flexibility for a variety of playstyles.”

Those with light wallets, be warned: The wired-only (USB) model runs $169.95 USD, and the wireless (Bluetooth)/wired is $199.95 USD. Both models include a suite of interchangeable parts and a high-speed braided micro-USB cable, and the wireless/wired model also includes a protection and travel case — which you’ll want, since this controller is more expensive than some Arcade Sticks currently on the market.

SCUF Gaming justifies the high cost with a list of luxury attributes:

  • Paddle control system with four removable back paddles
  • A quick-access remapping switch
  • Customizable thumb sticks with 3 different heights in either a concave or convex configuration
  • Adjustable hair triggers
  • Trigger stops and extenders
  • Choice of d-pads
  • Interchangeable magnetic face-plate
  • Side-mounted right and left “Sax” buttons, designed to fit the natural placement of a player’s fingers.
  • Advanced audio control for wired connection — a swipe of the audio touch bar adjusts the volume while players can keep their hands on the controller
  • Removable vibration modules — players can reduce the weight of the controller and lessen hand fatigue

Despite this, there’s already considerable backlash over the SCUF Vantage for its eerily similar layout to the Xbox Elite Pad. For some, no amount of bells and whistles can outweigh the placement of a thumbstick.

What do you think? Is this new pro controller worth the price of admission, or is there no advantage offered by the SCUF Vantage?

Speaking to Kotaku, Brand Manager Alex Cantatore said, “We are very disappointed that a contractor for our mobile hero shooter, Paladins Strike, make use of artwork from another game in splash art for our Covert Ops Lex skin.”
