Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long from RWBY will be available as free DLC in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

If you were watching the Evolution 2018 lineup reveal, you’ve heard some exciting news; the upcoming BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is one of the eight main stage games! As Mr. Wizard showcased each of the games, Arc System Works showed the BBxTAG game trailer that we’ve already seen. However, there were some surprises toward the end; while we already knew Blake Belladonna is coming to the game as a DLC character, it turns out she will be free of charge!

RWBY fans have had their eyes peeled for the last member of the squad: Yang Xiao Long, Ruby’s sister. We surmised that she will be a DLC character, but Arc System Works revealed that she will be free as well. During the announcement, game producer Toshimichi Mori urged fans to support the title and pre-order the game.

It’s unclear whether this was planned all along, or if it’s a reaction to some of the backlash after the Blake and DLC roster announcement, which revealed 20 core characters and 20 additional, downloadable members.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle will launch on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam platforms on May 29th in Japan, and June 5th in North America.

Daigo Umehara announces Kemonomichi 2 with this teaser trailer

“The Battle of the Beasts has just begun.”

Last month, Daigo Umehara hosted Kemonomichi, a set of exhibition matches with nothing but pride on the line! We got to see Aniken take on Kotaka Shouten in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Ogawa versus Machabo in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, and Ohnuki’s versus Deshiken in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. (You can check out those matches here!) After the dust settled, we were left wondering if The Beast would host a follow-up event…

And there it is. We don’t know the games or the competitors yet, but some fierce fights will be coming our way on March 10, 2018. Keep an eye on BeasTV and Shoryuken for updates.

Cowabunga dude! NetherRealm Studios are hosting a TMNT-themed Injustice 2 livestream on February 7th

It’s almost pizza time, my fellow shell-heads. To finally show off the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Injustice 2, NetherRealm Studios are hosting a special Watchtower livestream tomorrow, dedicated to the heroes in a half-shell. Expect tubular ’90s slang, tons of turtle puns, as well as a thorough run-through of the Turtles’ abilities.

For those waiting on the Turtles’ official reveal trailer, NetherRealm plan to release tomorrow morning. Seeing as they fight as a team, it will be intriguing to see how each Turtle factors into their whole moveset.

Is swapping between the Turtles tied to their Trait? Do you have to switch them in using a specific special, like Zeku changing between new and old forms? All will be revealed tomorrow at 3:00 PM CST (1:00 PM PT), so get those pizzas ordered and prepare to kick some shell.

Capcom CEO promises focus on quality control in their titles

It’s no secret that Capcom has come under fire with their releases of Street Fighter V and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. While Capcom had previously admitted that they released the former title prematurely, they seemingly repeated the same mistake with what many describe as a rushed release of the latter.

A recent public letter from Capcom CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto has been released, in which he talks about the esports focus that Capcom has worked on in recent years:

We at Capcom have been building eSports with our Street Fighter brand outside of Japan for the past 10 years, and now are committed to laying down the foundation to make this year “eSports Year One” within Japan. Drawing upon the markets we have already developed in the U.S. and Europe, we will move forward to promote eSports with the full force of our organization.

It goes on to include a reference to this:

… last year it was uncovered that there has been widespread product quality data falsification at major Japanese manufacturers. This discovery deeply affected the operations of these companies and the brands they had developed over many long years.

He states that the “quality of our game software is a vital matter, and one with which our entire company must be involved,” and that “we will strive to create games that delight all of our customers by prioritizing their needs and thoroughly administering strict quality control.”

While the esports division definitely affects Street Fighter V, it is uncertain how much of this focus will be placed on Marvel, nor how their quality control will change in relation to their titles. Read the full letter here.

MenaRD starts new esports team to sign local Dominican talent, brings on Jochy Focus

When MenaRD won Capcom Cup, he said he wanted to do something to promote the game in his native Dominican Republic. He was not at all talking idly, and his most recent move has made good on that desire.

Using some of his Capcom Cup funds as capital, he has started his own esports team: the Santo Domingo Tigers. The first player he has signed is Dominican native Jochy Focus. Jochy made waves with his Akuma play in the Capcom Cup Last Chance Qualifier, showing that the Dominican Republic was stronger far beyond DR Ray, Caba, and MenaRD.
