Rock on with iconic Guilty Gear songs in DJMAX Respect

One of the most iconic things to come out of Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear franchise is its music by series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari. With how memorable and iconic the music is, it should come as no surprise then that it’s crossing over beyond the games into other franchises, in this case, rhythm game DJMAX Respect.

First announced in August of 2017, songs from various Guilty Gear titles are making their way into DJMAX Respect. For those wondering how these songs will appear in the game, Arc System Works has released a sample videos showcasing a couple of songs being played in the game.

The specific songs being played in the video below are “Break a Spell”, the opening theme for Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2; the Guilty Gear 2 Overture version of Ky’s theme “Holy Orders (Be Just or Be Dead)&#8221$$ and “Marionette”, Elphelt’s theme from Guilty Gear Xrd.

For those interested in picking this up, DJMAX Respect is already available (with English text) for PlayStation 4 in Asia, and will hit Japan on November 9.

Indie fighter Punch Planet enters Steam Early Access on November 8th

It’s safe to say we at SRK have been anticipating Sector-K’s indie fighter Punch Planet for some time now. Sector-K’s 3-man team has worked diligently on their footsies-focused sci-fi fighter since they were green-lit in 2016, and they’ve listened closely to the FGC to fine tune the game with appearances at Evo 2017 and Next Level Battle Circuit.

And soon, you’ll be able to go to Punch Planet, too.

Punch Planet is entering Early Access on November 8th, and will be launching with its 4 previously announced characters, Training Mode, and Versus Modes (both Local and Online.) In this trailer they’ve also officially revealed two future characters:

green

While we may not know much about the smirking Green Alien, we know a little bit more about his Robot friend thanks to Sector-K’s website: it’s a “G-Agent”, a Power-Suit wielding, gymnastics using, time policing law man.

You can check out Punch Planet’s Steam Store page here.

Peter “Combofiend” Rosas departs from Capcom

Peter “Combofiend” Rosas, associate producer on Street Fighter V, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, and as a Battle Designer for Ultra Street Fighter IV, has officially stepped down from his five year stint at Capcom USA. Combofiend’s stated reason for departure seems indicate that it is of his own choice, judging by his official statement:

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work on the games that shaped my life, a definite dream come true, but now I feel it’s time for the next generation to be able to do the same. “

You can read the full statement on his departure at Capcom-Unity.

As for his post-Capcom plans, he promises to “join you all once again as a member of the community and as a Capcom fan.” Considering Combofiend was once a dominating force in the Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Capcom vs SNK 2 tournament scenes, it won’t be surprising to see him showing up at MvC:I tournaments soon. We wish Combofiend the best of luck in his future endeavours, and hope to see him back on the sticks very soon.

Check out Red Bull’s ultra-rare (and exclusive) Street Fighter 30th Anniversary “World Warrior Luggage” gift package

Only ten of these have been made, for ten of the FGC’s finest.

Red Bull Esports has been busy making sure that the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter is a year to remember. In addition to special events at Red Bull Battle Grounds in Boston and special edition cans of Red Bull for Street Fighter fans to enjoy, they’s also sent out some slightly mysterious and very impressive commemorative gift packages to prominent members of the FGC — along with a bit of help from UDON and Razer. Behold: The World Warrior Luggage.

world warrior luggage 1

This big vintage suitcase is marked on the outside with custom stickers — that are all Street Fighter-related character gags or references — and a “Red Bull Line” luggage tag. The case itself is locked with a combination lock that needs a four-digit code to open (hint: what year were both Red Bull and Street Fighter created…?).

world warrior luggage 2

red bull sfv cansWhen the suitcase is opened, the startup screen song from Street Fighter II plays. Inside, the classic stage-select map from the game can be seen — with the addition of Austria’s Red Bull headquarters. It includes one of each of the five aforementioned SFV character cans (going into wide release in November), and when each can is lifted out, sound effects related to that fighter can be heard. There’s lots of other details under the lid, and a pocket that contains a customized World Warrior Passport, with artwork, stickers, and more.

The central feature of the luggage is a Razer Panthera with custom Street Fighter 30th Anniversary artwork from UDON. The SFV characters on the panel art seem to have unusual outfit colors…

You can get another look at the art thanks to LAYERS FGC on Twitter. To finish it all off, under the fight stick there is a limited-edition art print by Ben Marra, featuring the original SFII playable roster, and including a certificate of authenticity.

This ultra rare gift package has been sent to only ten people: Yoshinori Ono, Daigo Umehara, Snake Eyez, Bonchan, Luffy, Alex Valle, Alex Jebailey, Maximilian, Mark Julio, and Carolyn Dao. Certainly a spectacular way to thank some of the hardest-working folks in the FGC! Meanwhile: the rest of us can only look on, and seethe with envy.

This Street Fighter II-playing AI is accepting all challengers

Is Skynet set to be the Evo 2018 champion? It doesn’t seem likely, given the human aspects of playing fighting games, but one group — Gyroscope Software — is looking into what it would take to program a bot to play at the highest levels of Street Fighter.

In this technical article from Medium.com, they discuss the process they went through to develop the bot and teach it how to play the game. While it has yet to take on any true world warriors, the challenge is open for players to test their mettle against the bot in Street Fighter II Turbo.
