Top Japanese Street Fighter V players start a special mentoring program for aspiring pros
Hoping to raise the next generation of Street Fighters, a collection of Japanese esports team have come together for a special mentoring scheme. This will see various pro Street Fighter V players coaching a player in order to compete in a grand showdown later this year. The plan is to then have the winners from this rising star program fight against other talented players from other countries.
Japan started a multi-stream "Young Player Mentor Program". The pros will each train a pupil for an upcoming showdown later this year. #SFV pic.twitter.com/plF8HsUykR

Coaching Pairs are:
Dogura/GO1 : Moke
Fuudo : Hatsume
Itazan : Tachikawa
Kazunoko : Mizuha
Eita : Nauman
Haitani/Yukadon : Osayu/John— J I Y U N A (@jiyunaJP) July 30, 2017
As you can see from the above Tweets, many of the selected students are already great players, with Moke making to all the way to top 8 at this year’s Evo. Here is a rundown of each mentor and their coach:
- Cyclops Osaka – Dogura and GO1 mentoring Moke (one of Japan’s best Rashids and top 8 Evo 2017 finisher)
- DAIGO THE BEASTV – Fuudo mentoring Hatsume (top Cammy player)
- DetonatioN Gaming – Itazan mentoring fellow teammate Tachikawa (one of Japan’s best Ibukis and rank 68 on the Global CPT leaderboard)
- GODSGARDEN – Kazunoko mentoring Mizuha (the first Chun-Li to hit Master Rank in Season 2)
- GameWith – Eita mentoring Nauman (up and coming Japanese Ken, almost beat Tokido at Taiwan Cup 2016)
- YOUDEAL – Haitani is mentoring Osayu (Master Ranked Cammy player and nicknamed ‘the Destroyer’) while Yukadon is mentoring John Takeuchi (another top Japanese Rashid and winner of First Attack 2016)
There is an odd exclusion from this mentoring scheme, as Momochi’s Shinobism program is nowhere to be seen on the roster. Who knows, we may see a potential protege from that school coming to interrupt the eventual mentor tournament later this year.

Bonchan, Haitani and Fuudo craft their Street Fighter V Season 2.5 tier list
Now that everything has calmed following Evo 2017, three of Japan’s strongest Street Fighter V players — Red Bull’s Bonchan and GRAPHT’s Haitani and Razer’s Fuudo — sat down to take stock of the Season 2.5 landscape on the July 25th episode of Kachitagari TV.
Ranking the entire cast from A to D tier, the trio’s high placements of characters like Ibuki, Balrog, Akuma, Cammy and Necalli, while placing the likes of Juri, Alex, Ed and Kolin towards the absolute bottom of the pack isn’t surprising. While Juri and Alex will probably stay in bottom tier until a future balance patch, Ed and Kolin do have the chance to rise up, as they are still under-explored compared to the rest of the cast.
While it’s important to note that this list is just the collective opinion of these players, and should in no way be seen as the absolute final word on where these characters rank. Nevertheless, it’s a great look at how the competitive meta is shaping up following the mid-Season balance changes, and it will be interesting to see how if Abigail’s arrival will drastically change this list. You can see the full list below:
A: Ibuki, Balrog, Rashid, Cammy, Karin, Necalli, Akuma
B: Zangief, Guile, M. Bison, Urien, R. Mika, Birdie, Laura
C: F.A.N.G, Ken, Ryu, Nash, Vega, Chun-Li, Dhalsim
D: Kolin, Ed, Juri, Alex
Uni_Papapapa also clarified a few things about the placements on Twitter. Noting that the group originally had Laura in C Tier, but decided to eventually move her up to B, as Fuudo mentioned that she beats B-ranked Rainbow Mika two times in a row. Though it’s not clearly defined, a character’s placement on the list was mostly based off of whether or not they have a lot of disadvantageous match-ups, as well as each warrior’s current success in recent tournaments. Javits Arias also compared it to his own Season 2.5 tier list he made back in late June, specifically noting how similar their top tier picks were, particularly when it came to Cammy. You can see the Tweets below.

They first put Laura into C, but eventually moved her to B because Laura beat Mika, ranked B, two times in a row including Fuudo haha.
— うに (@Uni_Papapapa) July 25, 2017
It's not precisely defined. They mentioned: if having disadvantage match-up to any character(s); success in tourneys… probably that's all.

My SF5 Season 2.5 tier list from a month ago is actually super close to the tier list by Japanese top players. Lol at "Cammy not top 5" guys pic.twitter.com/xpdBSpu06z

Garcia outguns Broner in points win
Three-weight world champion Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs) scored a 12 round unanimous decision victory over former four-weight world champion Adrien Broner (33-3, 24 KOs) on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Garcia won by scores of 117-111 and 116-112 twice.
The American got the better of countryman Broner with jabs, power punches and body shots throughout the bout.
“I think I controlled the fight in the early rounds and I kept the activity up,” said Garcia. “Broner is…
Maximilian asks: Has a spectacular 30th Anniversary Street Fighter collection been leaked?
Has Capcom got a big surprise in store for Street Fighter fans?
The recent appearance of a PlayStation 4/Xbox One listing for Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection — originally released for PlayStation 2, containing the SFII compilation Hyper Street Fighter II and a port of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike — on a German website has started the rumor mill running on the possibility that we’ll be seeing a compilation package of some kind soon for Street Fighter’s 30th anniversary. You can see the listing below in a tweet from Gatoray:
[Rumor] Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection for PS4/XBO?https://t.co/EtYLo3QDTP pic.twitter.com/pSO2wTglmi
— Gatoray (@gatoray_kof) July 29, 2017
This strange listing has started talk and speculation on this NeoGAF thread. While the listing references something that sounds like the old PS2 compilation, Maximilian discusses in his new video how insiders have stated that Capcom indeed has something more than a port of Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection (which was released for the 15th anniversary) in the works, and we’ll be hearing something more about it soon. It may even include Street Fighter Alpha titles, or a new port of 3rd Strike…
This is all in the wonder/speculation/rumor area right now, but with the actual anniversary date coming up late in August, the time is right for Capcom to show off whatever big release they may have planned, if any, for the 30th year. The PS4 has seen digital versions of many PS2 titles already, especially from SNK; while ports of Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection or Street Fighter Alpha Anthology would be welcome to many fans, there’s an opportunity to do better here that I hope Capcom capitalizes on. We’ll ideally find out soon enough.

BigEGaming adds “ARMS” to Summer Jam XI Lineup, promises on-site registration
In a surprise move that bears some resemblance to Pokkén’s last minute addition to Final Round 19 last year, BigEGaming has added an event for ARMS to Summer Jam XI, just a few weeks before the event opens.
We've officially added ARMS to the #SummerJamXI tournament games list. Players who plan to compete can sign up during on-site registration. pic.twitter.com/p5VV8mt3jW
— Big E Gaming (@BigEgaming) July 28, 2017
While players can sign up on site to compete, there’s little info on the cost or prizes for the new Nintendo fighter either on BigEGaming’s twitter or their main site. As of this writing, there is also no time for ARMS listed on the official schedule — it’s possible this decision to run ARMS was as sudden as the announcement itself.

The FUSE: Doubles Circuit returns for a second second, now includes Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
With the first season of FUSE wrapping up earlier this month, the Genesis Smash team have announced that they will be running a second season of the Super Smash Bros. doubles circuit. Along with Super Smash Bros. Melee, this second season will include Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as well.
Season 2 will kick off on August 1st, with it running until sometime in December. Low Tier City 5 will be the first event on the circuit, with it acting as a Bronze level event for Melee and a Gold level event for Smash 4. All events are graded based on their final attendance numbers, with The Big House 7 being the only fixed Major event. Any open Smash event is available to join the Season 2 circuit, as long as they are an open event with at least 16 teams in attendance.
