Tekken 7 to receive new character panel art in September
Bandai Namco has revealed that several in-game character panels designed by world-renowned artists will be coming to Tekken 7. As announced at San Diego Comic Con 2017, the aesthetic panels will be available to purchase as DLC sometime in September
Among the list of artists are names like Mister Cartoon, Ron English, and Jeremy Fish, all of which have made an impact on the world through their eclectic and provocative street art. Much like the New Japan Pro Wrestling items added to Tekken 7 earlier this year, this artistic collaboration is another example of the influence that fighting games have had on other areas of popular culture.
You can check out a higher-resolution image of the art and artists teased below, and stay tuned to Shoryuken for more FGC related news coming out of SDCC 2017.

Day one art fixes are coming to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
If there’s one thing that’s caused a lot of heated discussion regarding Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, it’s the game’s art direction. Certain characters on the Capcom side of the roster such as Chun-Li and Dante, have been criticized as being rather sub-par, especially when compared to their Marvel counterparts.
We’ve already seen that Capcom’s been working on fixing these issues, with Chun-Li getting some improvements in the Evo preview. Now, it seems that Capcom have committed themselves on working to resolve these issues right up until the game’s launch. At their panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, producer Yoshinori Ono has confirmed that there will be art fixes coming to the game on “day one”.

This should come as good news for those worried about the look of these specific characters in the game. Of course, ideally these would come with the game on launch, console release testing and certification cycles mean that games need to be sent in early for testing and certification, and any work done after that will have to be added in as a day 1 patch.

Tekken 7’s Eliza will be available for download on July 28th
Though Tekken 7 has been in the public’s hands on consoles for nearly two months now, there has still been an air of mystery as to when players who didn’t pre-order the game would be able to get their hands on DLC character Eliza. We know that the narcoleptic vampire, who debuted in Tekken Revolution, will be joining the Arcade roster, along with the other currently-console-exclusive characters as part of an update on July 27th.
Now that the Bandai Namco Entertainment panel has concluded at San Diego Comic-Con, we know that the “unrelenting night” will dawn for all on consoles and Steam July 28th, thanks to a Tweet from chief producer Katsuhiro Harada. Pricing details for her are unknown at this time, but she is not included in the game’s Season Pass.
I mentioned about Eliza's release date. It is July 28th. https://t.co/g8Vh8Swmsy

Additionally, they spoke about Tekken 7’s next guest character, SNK’s Geese Howard. Maximilian, who attended the panel, snapped this screenshot of a slide about the King of South Town.

Tekken 7 version 1.04 patch restores black color palettes in character customization
Yesterday, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Tekken 7 were updated to Version 1.04. Though no notes were officially released, the PS4’s Update History simply reads, “Fixed bugs related to some Customization items,” meaning that this 740 MB update was likely intended to restore the dark and black color palettes to Character Customization. These palettes were removed in Version 1.03, due to the discovery that a certain Dragunov costume could be painted entirely black.
Additionally, the Tekken 7 Twitter account stated that PC players would be receiving an update to the Steam version at the end of this month, with all of the currently-released console changes rolled into a one single patch. Harada also clarified that players should be able to use pure black colors “VERY soon. However, depending on the type of Customization, it will be somewhat closer to gray.” You can see the Tweets, as well as a screenshot of the PS4’s Update History, below.
And this patch is releasing on PS4/XB1 today!
PC players: expect a patch by the end of the month bringing over all the console improvements. https://t.co/XT8PAl0yFg— TEKKEN 7 (@TEKKEN) July 21, 2017
You'll be able to use almost pure black colors VERY soon.

Exclusive Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Black Panther and Monster Hunter crossover comic coming to Gamestop
With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite focusing on Capcom crossing over with the Marvel universe, it’s a great space for telling stories not just in the game, but also in comic book form. We’ve already seen special MvC: Infinite variant covers coming to select Marvel books next month however, what’s missing is an actual comic book based on the game’s setting, until now.
At their panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom announced a special crossover comic book, coming exclusively to Gamestop. The 20 page comic book sets the merging of Wakanda, from Marvel’s Black Panther comics, with the Val Habar region from Capcom’ Monster Hunter games.
We’ve already seen the results of these with the “Valkanda” stage seen in the Versus demos that Capcom’s been lugging around to events. The comic should then show how the normal residents of both places react to the merge.
Available exclusively at Gamestop, the comic book will be available in both English and French. In the meantime, here’s a shot of the slide from Capcom’s presentation, showing the cover of the book, from Fresno Gaming’s JardFGC.

Arc System Works pays a visit to Riot Games
It looks like Arc System Works might not be finished surprising us anytime soon. Fittingly, as the team members have been visiting the United States for Evolution 2017, maybe it’s not surprising that they stopped on the way to California. Yesterday, the Japanese Arc System Works Twitter account posted a curious picture (Retweeted by the English account):
The hype-train continues. Thank you @riotgames for the wonderful tour through your offices. @ArcSystemWorksU causing trouble again.

#RiotGames pic.twitter.com/KdY05A7B1l
— アークシステムワークス公式ツイッター (@ARCSY_Event) July 20, 2017
The Tweet talks about the impressive scope of Riot Games’ studio and about ASW getting a tour. Video game studios rarely visit each other “just because,” so could this be a sign of some sort of collaboration? Even if it’s not an all-out fighting game, guest characters aren’t out of the question.
Earlier this month, we’ve deduced that Arc System Works will announce something related to RWBY, which turned out to be a guest appearance in the new BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. After hearing those Evo announcements, is there really anything off the table?
We also know Riot Games acquired Radiant Entertainment, who used to work on now-defunct Rising Thunder, a fighting game. Lately, Arc System Works seems to be the company with a magic touch that others want to work with.
So, for now, just a  emoji.

Xbox 360 port of Virtua Fighter 2 joins the Xbox One backwards compatibility list
The Xbox 360 port of Virtua Fighter 2 is the latest fighter to join Xbox One’s backwards compatibility collection. Originally premiering on the Sega Saturn, the port features a graphics polish and the ability to engage in online matches. Other fighting games that are backwards compatible include Street Fighter IV, Skullgirls, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Soul Calibur V and Virtua Fighter V: Final Showdown.
There are quite a few Xbox 360 fighting game titles that are still eligible for porting, and the option is still available for players to voice their opinion and cast a vote on which games should be made backwards compatible on the Xbox One. We have taken the liberty of assembling the full list of those games, and you can check it out and cast your votes by click here.

Has USA finally caught up with Japan? New documentary covers the FGC’s “American Revolution”
Phil Nolan, the videographer who documented the rise of SonicFox, once again turns his lens towards the American fighting game community in his latest project Street Fighter: The American Revolution. This new documentary zeroes in on how the skill gap that has always existed between American and Japanese top Street Fighter players has seemingly been closed, with the Americans finally winning what is referred to as a 20-year game of catch-up. Going as far back to the days of Super Street Fighter II Turbo all the way up to Evolution 2017, Phil Nolan recaps some of the FGC’s most fierce East vs. West clashes with the help of some of the community’s finest.
Floe, Justin Wong, NuckleDu, and K-Brad all are featured, giving anecdotes and other bits of fighting game history that have laid the foundation for this long-running international rivalry. The film also emphasizes how Street Fighter V has helped level the playing field for American fighters, from the nature of its release to how the game itself rewards a more offensive style.
