Poison Ivy unleashes the wrath of the Green in her Injustice 2 gameplay reveal trailer

As we enter the final calendar month preceding the release of Injustice 2, it’s going to be a blossoming week for fans of Poison Ivy. Though we first only saw a small snippet of her gameplay in her initial reveal in the “Here Come The Girls” trailer on Valentine’s Day, she has been confirmed by NetherRealm Studios Community Specialist Tyler Lansdown to be receiving a character breakdown on the next Injustice 2 Watchtower livestream (alongside Catwoman and a third character to be named) sometime next week.

But lovers of Dr. Pamela Isley’s bioterrorism techniques don’t have to wait any longer for a preview, as she has received her own gameplay trailer today:

Injustice 2 will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16th.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Skullgirls Encore for PlayStation 3 discounted as part of PSN’s Flash Sale

For any PlayStation 3 owners looking for some fighting games to play on their console, a couple of the best downloadable fighters on the system are currently on sale as part of a Flash Sale on the PlayStation Network.

Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, the rebalanced re-release of the classic Super Street Fighter II Turbo is currently on sale for only $3.99. The game features the original “Super Turbo” cast with a host of balance changes meant to tighten up the game’s admittedly lopsided match ups. In addition to this, it also features brand new HD sprites drawn by the artists over at Udon Entertainment and rollback netcode for some smooth, online combat.

For those looking for something more chaotic, Lab Zero’s Skullgirls Encore is also on sale for only $1.99. This eclectic fighter pays homage to the classic Marvel vs. Capcom 2, refining the many unintended mechanics of that game into a solid tag-team fighter. As with HD Remix, Skullgirls Encore also features rollback netcode, this time via the use of GGPO, the networking solution originally developed by Evo and Shoryuken co-founder Tom “Ponder” Cannon.

Any players interested in picking up either of these should hurry however, the flash sale ends at 1:00 PM on April 17.

Offering another potential way to play Super Smash Bros., Alt Lab Controllers show off the Smash Stick

While a battle has been raging between the Smash Box and the B0XX to be the true next evolution in controllers for competitive Smash, a third controller has quietly slipped into view. Choosing to eschew the HitBox-esque buttons for controlling a character’s movement, this new controller uses a traditional arcade-stick to move characters about in a way more players understand at a glance.

Aptly named the Smash Stick, this prototype controller looks more like a traditional fight stick, with a joystick and five button ‘homerow’ to move your character around. Unlike the Smash Box or the B0XX, the joystick is completely analog, with buttons for X, Z and the C-Stick being placed outside of the homerow. There is a toggle on the back of the stick to switch the C-Stick buttons to the D-Pad and vice versa.

While the stick may not offer the surgical precision that the Smash Box or the B0XX provide, it is an ergonomic design with a button layout which requires minimal flexion or extension of the fingers while playing. From first glance, it seems to sidestep many of the problems that has plagued both the Smash Box and B0XX in terms of giving players a distant advantage in game, while also being a suitable ergonomic alternative to the traditional GameCube controller.

The Smash Stick is still in active development so expect aspects of its button layout and overall design to change as more people test this extra control alternative.

– Rend Devs Give Insight into Primary & Secondary Classes

The Rend site has been published that reveals the four character classes coming with the game: Assassin, Soldier, Survivalist and Mystic. What makes Rend different than other ARPGs / survival games is that class isn’t chosen at creation, but comes at level two. In addition, players will be able to choose one of the remaining three classes as a secondary. Each point applied in a path, unlocks different tiers of abilities.

Indongo batters Burns in unification clash

IBF light welterweight champion Julius Indongo (22-1, 11 KOs) defeated WBA champion Ricky Burns (41-6-1, 14 KOs) by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision in a unification clash on Saturday night at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
Indongo, little known outside of his homeland  of Namibia before he dethroned Russia’s Eduard Troyanovsky by a 40 second first-round knockout in December, was busier, outboxed and hit harder than Burns and won by scores of 120-108, 118-110 and…

Yamazaki unleashes pure carnage in this King of Fighters XIV Roundup

One of my personal favorite SNK characters, Ryuji Yamazaki, has finally made his glorious return to the King Of Fighters series, joining the KOF XIV roster earlier this month as part of the game’s massive Version 2.00 update. Today we shine a special spotlight on what the murderous Hakkeshu of Death is capable of in his newest incarnation.

We begin with a combo video from veteran KOF content creator Persona Entertainment. The first four combos aim for maximum damage utilizing between 1 and 4 Bars, along with 1000-1250 MAX Gauge. These combos also have the added bonus of being performed on his Fatal Fury compatriots, most of whom still have 1,000 life, but there are also Touch Of Death sequences 0n the now 900 health Mai and 950 health Kim, while his former boss Geese Howard now sports 1050, the same as Ryuji himself.

Yamazaki may have left his trusty knife behind but he now boasts a new Super in KOF XIV–Pit Viper–that inflicts massive poison damage to the opponent, despite not being calculated in the damage counter in Training Mode, that will persist when Climax Canceled into his Drill Super, which means your foe is continuously losing life as you prolong the attack by mashing for more hits, damage and alternative animations! (Eat your heart out, F.A.N.G)

Next up, we have the COMBONAUTS take on Yamazaki, which features some stylish Super and Climax Cancels, MAX Mode confirms, more Pit Viper poison goodness, combos off of his Counter and a Rising Heart whiff punish on poor 950-health Love Heart. We even have a combo off of a Double Returned Mamahaha that poisons an unsuspecting Nakoruru.

Gatoray gives us a look at every projectile Yamazaki can Parry with his Double Return. Unlike Whip’s Orbs, his Kaiser Wave’s cover the screen extremely quickly, similarly to Azrael’s Phalanx Cannons in Blazblue. He can even get multiple Waves from multi-hitting projectiles, and in MAX Mode, they’re large and durable to clear the screen of enemy fire, even other EX projectiles.

LeoKingdom69 gives us a look at all 4 Levels of Yamazaki’s Drill Climax and how they differ in damage, number of hits and animations, as well as a 5-Bar combo.

After releasing guides for Whip, Vanessa and Rock, TrueUnderDawgGaming has FINALLY put out his combo guide for Yamazaki.

TBS_BrunoKof also has a variety of combos.

Finally, Black Out brings us all of the win quotes to and from Yamazaki, for the entire cast, while zxyu0369 gives us the special intros between all 4 DLC characters.

The Skullgirls Tour announces community fundraiser to bring international competition to Combo Breaker

The Skullgirls community has been granted an opportunity to bring some of the world’s top competitors to compete on the game’s largest stage. Combo Breaker will once again serve as the finale of The Skullgirls Tour, and StreamMe has contributed $2,000 to bring international players to the event next month.

Skullgirls is already guaranteed a spot on Combo Breaker’s main stage for the finale of the tour, and the opportunity to bring in more international talent should make Sunday’s Top 8 Finals that much sweeter.

The crew in charge of The Skullgirls Tour will host a fundraising stream announcing which players have been chosen on Saturday, May 6th starting at noon on www.stream.me/skullgirlstour. Additional funds will be used to fly in as many players as possible, and based on the reveal trailer from SkullgirlsTV, each chosen player will be from a different country of origin.

The Skullgirls Tour is a series of five offline events and seven online tournaments celebrating the indie title and its community. In August 2016, leaders within the community announced their intention to launch an event series focusing on the tournaments that best support the game.

CEOTaku kicked off the tour in October 2016, and in the time since several other fighting game communities have organized specific tours in support of their own games, such as the Curleh Series and Burst League.

Skullgirls Tour organizer, KPB|Sheila “Sharpie” Moore said the tour helps the community support the events that are most important to the players, content creators and tournament organizers that keep the scene alive. By including online tournaments in the mix, the tour is also working to help the netplay community transition into offline competition.

“I’m really happy to see other tournament organizers, players, and general community members working to organize series and tours for their communities,” Moore said. “It’s really nice to see people that have a genuine interest in making their community accessible to others, and helping their community grow in general. I honestly think it’s really important that tours and circuits are created because they help inspire members of communities to action.“

Echo Fox|SonicFox has won each of the tour’s offline events in North America, and is the current points leader on the tour with 950; his former teammate cR|dekillsage in second place, having come in second place at those same events. Swedish player zeknife is in third place on the leaderboard with his win at Revolution 2016, and was one of three international players who was able to attend Combo Breaker 2016 due to crowd funding.

Skullgirls developer Autumn Games has announced a $2,000 pot bonus for the Combo Breaker 2017 prize pool, and special events have been announced for Friday and Saturday evening. Last year’s Combo Breaker featured a 10-on-10 East Coast vs. The World exhibition. Be sure to tune in to the fundraising stream on May 6 to find out which international players will be competing at Combo Breaker, and check out the tournament starting on May 26.

Super Steam Xrd Exhibition League Europe Special: Raven fights ZoKHiZ while Pida squares up with King_Rasta

We’re back to our usual programming with a preview of the upcoming Super Steam Xrd Exhibition League. It’s a little bit different this time, as we’re switching continents. The Europe special showcases four Daredevils from Finland, Russia, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Let them Keep the Flag Flying for their homelands and let’s see what they have to say before they face-off in FT7 sets on Silva’s stream this Sunday.

Here they are: first up will be Raven vs. ZoKHiZ, followed by Pida vs. King_Rasta.

Raven

ggxrd-revelator-johnny-portrait

Tell us a little bit about playing GG in your country, and your scene: “I think the Russian community is one of the strongest. Top RU players can compete with top EU and US easily. We have more than 15 players at the top of the community. Notable players are Goga (Chipp), Kler (Ram), Loulaim (Ky), Ashimriat (Sol), Diron (VE) and special notice to Potemkin player, ArsenKamelot, who helped me prepare for Shine at Evo. We have like 100-ish players at our biggest GG major. And the older players like me have some sort of second family.”

On his opponent: “I hope he will not take me to the bus tour. At least not too often… But I do think the match-up is slightly in my favor, and I will make the best of it. So I’m sure it will be entertaining to watch.”

On his own playstyle: “I’m in love with Johnny’s conversion from footsies actually, and also I like to do some hard read options in between the spacing game. Overall, I pretty much am a passive-aggressive player. The weakest part of my game probably is anti-airing and unknown matchups because I freeze too much.”

ZoKHiZ

ggxrd-revelator-potemkin-portrait

Tell us a little bit about playing GG in your country, and your scene: “Let’s see… First of, Finland is a somewhat big country when compared to the amount of people who are living here. There are not that many bigger cities, and they are somewhat far apart from each other, so getting offline matches can be hard depending where you live. For example, the city where I live, there is one active player for Guilty Gear, me! For nearest offline games, I have to travel around 100-150 km or 250km to the capital city where most of the players are. Sadly because of this, most of the time you have to rely on online play for games.

“But considering all that, we do have a somewhat healthy scene in Finland, there are weekly offline sessions in some of the bigger cities. We have a few yearly events here and there. We have quite a few better than your average players and few OG’s from the olden times, also Xrd -SIGN- and -REVELATOR- brought in a good influx of new blood to the scene. So yeah, I guess we are doing as well as we can when you play a niche game in niche genre!”

On his opponent: “That’s a tough one. Raven plays Johnny and is one of the best players in Russia, he has played Guilty Gear series for very long time so he has lots of knowledge of the game. I haven’t played against him that many times before, so I can’t really comment on him on a personal level. But I’m sure it’s not going to be easy for me, I’ll try to play my best and show you all what I can do!

“As for the match up, Johnny is one of the harder ones for Potemkin. He has really good, fast normals that can outrange Potemkin and Mist-canceling makes them really safe on block, not to mention that he also has pretty good corner carry, mixups, great damage and his backdash is really powerful… and then some more on the top. All that combined is pretty hard for the big slow guy… On the flip side, a few mistakes against Potemkin can easily cost you the game if he gets in. But it’s definitely gonna be an uphill battle for me, and I like it that way!”

On his own playstyle: “Hmmm, I tend to gravitate toward slow, hard-hitting walls of meat, so Potemkin was a pretty obvious choice for me in GG. My playstyle? Guess I would like to consider myself to be more of a defensive/reactive player, not that you have that many options when playing Potemkin in Xrd. Other than that, I don’t know what to say, I am not the kind of person to toot my own horn, I’ll let my games speak for me.”

King_Rasta

ggxrd-revelator-faust-portrait

Tell us a little bit about playing GG in your country, and your scene: “With 10-15 players, we are not exactly such a big GG community, but I guess it ain’t that bad for such a small country [Austria]. We usually play offline, thanks to having the VirtualDojo available, but online king-of-the-hill lobbies happen regularly too. That amount of players isn’t enough to get familiar with every matchup, but that’s what the EU discord is for, that has managed to attract a lot of great players and is the #1 place to go to look for some matches. The average skill level and the playerbase has increased significantly in EU since -SIGN- came out, and Discord, as well as event organizers, helped quite a lot in that regard.”

On his opponent: “Pida is a great Axl player, in my opinion, the best in Europe, and it was fantastic to see how quickly he managed to get to the level he currently is. I think Xrd -SIGN- was the first Guilty Gear he played and he is one of the younger players around too, so that’s quite something. We don’t play that much online anymore, but our matches are usually very even and close.

“The match-up I’d say is quite even, and very weird for both parties. Both Faust and Axl force each other to do things they usually don’t want to do, namely go in neutral. Axl has overall stronger pokes hitbox-wise and Rensen to just stuff almost everything Faust does, but Faust hits way harder and can throw items to get opportunities. As a Faust, I have to make calls when to just dash in or when there might be a chance to counterpoke. A few good pokes can turn everything around though.”

On his own playstyle: “I prefer a more defensive and reaction based playstyle, where I annoy my opponent (with items and pokes) until he goes in, then punish those approaches. If I get the chance to start mix-ups and rushdown, I’ll go for that and play aggressively until it’s back to neutral. This is one of the aspects I really like about Faust. The other thing I really enjoy doing is just improvising around the items, see how what I get and how I can use certain things for combos and mix-ups. There are a lot of setups you can learn in Training Mode, but some item constellations are just too specific to Training. And those are the situations I really enjoy too, as they are also the most interesting situations and make Faust entertaining to watch and play.”

Pida

ggxrd-revelator-axl-portrait

Tell us a little bit about playing GG in your country, and your scene: ” The Guilty Gear community in the Czech Republic is quite small, we have only about 10 players. Most of them are really dedicated to the game though. Probably the most visible guy from our community is prk`who streams his netplay adventures. Czechs travel a lot around the European tournaments, where we are usually able to get quite good placings. You can also hear some of us commentating at European events.”

On his opponent: “Axl vs Faust is mostly an even MU in my opinion. Axl has better tools in the neutral game, but Faust can usually capitalize on random hits a little more. When Faust gets the knockdown, he’s much scarier than Axl. Rasta is a tough opponent. He can read the game well and he has solid MU knowledge. He’s really patient and he’s great at adapting to his items. I’ll need to be really on point to beat him. Also he’s an RNG god.”

On his own playstyle: “I‘ve always enjoyed playing characters with long reach who dominate the neutral game with their normals. I try to take control of neutral game, force my opponent to get impatient, and then I punish their mistakes. Basically, I just do Axl things and it works.”

The Europe special is coming up on silva_hime’s Twitch channel. It’s on Sunday, April 16th, at 4:00 PM EST/1:00 PM PDT/9:00 PM GMT, with the second fight about half an hour after.
