Microsoft reveals Project Scorpio specs, Digital Foundry analyzes performance

Digital Foundry, an affiliate of Eurogamer.net, received unprecedented early access to Microsoft’s next console, named “Project Scorpio”–a similar deal to what Sony has done with the PS4 Pro. The site has run tests on the machine that involved seeing how well it handles intensive gaming and 4K conditions.

They claim that Scorpio is “ahead of schedule” and could be as soon as six months away from release, at best. Microsoft aims to raise the bar with an impressive, custom GPU set to appeal to developers aiming to push graphical and performance standards. The video goes through what’s inside the console and runs some footage and screenshots of a few games.

Here are comparative specs in a table, compiled by the website:

Digital Foundry Scorpio comparison chart

Project Scorpio is expected to release in Q4 2017. Killer Instinct, Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, and the upcoming Tekken 7 are the biggest fighting game titles on the console. Perhaps there’s promise of bigger support for the FGC in the future with Project Scorpio, as Microsoft seeks to win back developers and revitalize its grasp on the console market.

The King of Fighters XIV version 2.0 roundup: DLC character combos, trials, & themes

We’re officially in day 3 of The King of Fighters XIV Version 2.0, and players are still eagerly hard at work with the new DLC characters, looking to flesh out what they’re all fully capable of.

To kick things off, we have a compilation of trials for all four of the new fighters, courtesy of Games In HD, who also uploaded each character’s new theme for your listening pleasure.

Next, we have a Whip combo exhibition from the COMBONAUTS, showing off some stylish sequences from the newcomer, due to her ability to turn opponents’ projectiles into a slow-moving orb for dirty mixups.

Gatoray shows us the damage Vanessa can do with between 1-5 bars of meter.

Rhuel47 also put together some combos for the female boxer, including a 79-hitter.

Lastly, Apolo Loussalier brings us another Rock Howard combo video: “Break The Limit.”

Richard Lewis on Street Fighter V at ELEAGUE, and journalism’s importance in bringing SFV to new audiences

Among all the people involved in TBS’s ELEAGUE Street Fighter V invitational, there was one name that many fighting game viewers may not have been familiar with. Richard Lewis, more known for his work covering CS:GO, was brought aboard to host the event alongside many of the fighting game community’s luminaries.

In a recent interview, PVP Live talks to Lewis about ELEAGUE and his involvement in it; here Lewis talks about the community’s longstanding issues with esports and how they addressed those concerns and criticisms. As part of this, he points out how ELEAGUE reacted and adjusted to criticism as it went on, slowly changing from the first day to the ongoing finals.

Additionally, Lewis also talks about journalism, and how it is important in helping in bringing a genre (such as fighting games) to new audiences who may not have initially been interested in following it. As part of this, he mentions how some people who’ve been following his work on other genres have been watching Street Fighter V at ELEAGUE, despite not initially being interested in the genre. More importantly, he points out how journalism, and how reporting on important matters, can help make esports as a whole lot more relevant to their audiences.

Of course, that’s not all they talk about, so head on over to PVP Live to read the full interview.

Misfits branches out into traditional fighting games with the signing of Armando “Angelic” Mejia

The esports organization Misfits have clearly made a bargain with Dormammu, by signing one of the titanic forces of Marvel as their first traditional fighting game player. Host of Arizona’s Undefeated tournament series, one of the key figures of the newly formed Curleh Circuit, and third place finisher at both Evo 2013 and 2016 for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Misfits have added Armando “Angelic” Mejia to their ranks.

Alongside his prestigious history as a Marvel competitor, Angelic is also bringing his years of TO experience to Misfits, which should help the organization grow its presence within the greater FGC. With Misfits also having Larry Lurr under its banner–who is a director of the much heralded 2GGC Series for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U–the team is looking to become a player and organizational powerhouse in the future.

“I am extremely excited to partner up not only as a player but as a TO. I truly believe that Misfits will do extremely well in the FGC and I’m excited to be a part of the team,” said Angelic, in a statement provided to ESPN Esports. He will be sporting his brand new Misfits jersey at West Coast Warzone this weekend.
