American Guilty Gear Players Showcased in New Super Steam Xrd Exhibition League

If Japanese players can do it, why can’t the rest of the world? US Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- players decided that they won’t always be in Japan’s shadow–who regularly has various exhibitions and leagues. An online league in the first-to-seven format will stream some big names with commentary a few times a month.

The first two, happening on February 24th, are the following:

supersteamleague1 supersteamleague2

The first time, it’s a double fight special, but that might not always be the case. Commentary will be provided by BeautifulDude and DaiAndOh. There will be different commentators and players every time, rotating about two-three times a month.

“The series was obviously inspired by the FT10s on Jonio’s stream and the timing feels perfect now that the Steam player base has grown significantly,” Sym, who came up with the idea, told SRK. “Thanks to its lower input delay we can have quality netplay matches across any region in the US and even with Canada. This will help promote Xrd and give players valuable experience in matchups they may not have access to in their local scene. Matchup knowledge is something the US scene has struggled with, we don’t have the same luxury as Japan, but this will definitely help.”

Catch the stream on February 24th at 9 p.m. EST at www.twitch.tv/ssxrdel and stay tuned to it to see who’s coming up next. Follow the two organizers, Sym and Silva, linked below, to keep up to date.

You can also follow the #SSXrdEL hashtag to get into the spirit of competition with some fanart.

Now we have just that, in the form of “Smash News”: a relatively new series from the Beefy Smash Doods, focusing on catching players up with recent and upcoming happenings in the scene.

Collectible Card Game Shadowverse to Feature Guest Street Fighter V Leaders

Well, this is a crossover that no-one was really expecting. As part of a partnership between Cygames and Capcom, seven characters from Street Fighter V will be appearing as special guest Leaders in the digital card game, Shadowverse. Shadowverse has earned a huge following in Japan, with it starting to put a decent dent in Western markets, and almost into rival games like Hearthstone. Why Street Fighter has been decided as a worthy crossover for a medieval fantasy card game, take your best guess!

The seven guest Leaders will be:

  • Cammy (Forestcraft)
  • Chun-Li (Swordcraft)
  • Juri (Runecraft)
  • Ryu (Dragoncraft)
  • M. Bison (Shadowcraft)
  • Vega (Bloodcraft)
  • Karin (Havencraft)

While Shadowverse is free to play, Cygames has stated that this Street Fighter V related content may require additional in-game purchases, so you may have to pop down some actual money if you want to play cards as Chun-Li. This SFV collaboration is set to launch sometime in Spring, so check regularly on the Shadowverse website for launch details. I wonder if we’ll see Daigo dipping his toe into the world of CCGs, now he can play as his beloved Ryu.

Injustice 2 Mobile Game May Have Leaked Green Lantern, Cyborg, and Scarecrow

Three new fighters for Injustice 2 may have inadvertently surfaced.

According to Maximilian in his newest video, some (unspecified) regions have gained early access to the Injustice 2 mobile game, and the playable character selection in that version reveal that we can expect Green Lantern, Cyborg, and Scarecrow to be revealed soon for the main console version.

Maximilian points out that the original mobile Injustice roster provided the same early glimpse as to who was coming to console, so this may indeed be a reliable gauge of upcoming reveals. In his video he discusses at length the limited footage of the new fighters, and possible variations on their visual models we might see in-game to come. As this is an unverified leak, however, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation from NetherRealm Studios as to whether or not these fighters will indeed be battling in the console version–due May 16, 2017.

Echo Fox’s Momochi and ChocoBlanka Try Out the For Honor Beta

For Honor just came out yesterday! Leading up to its release, the open beta has received a surprising amount of attention from the FGC. Even some major gaming sites are associating this with the fighting genre, and heaping positive praise on the game in the process. Featuring warrior classes in place of characters, there’s a wide range of attacks, parries, dodges, and more, making combat surprisingly deep.

Street Fighter Legends Momochi and ChocoBlanka have recently been spending a lot of time in the beta, ensnared by Ubisoft’s foray into sword combat. Now that the game’s out, do you think For Honor’s combat is deep enough to succeed with the FGC crowd? Does it’s 1v1 mode warrant the interest it’s been receiving?

Here’s Some of the Women of the FGC Who Keep the Games Going

We all know of some of the great women that show up to events, such as Gllty, Sherryjenix, and ChocoBlanka. However, in addition to these names are some other unsung heroes that keep supporting their passion throughout the years.

This feature from Red Bull celebrates some of the women behind the scenes that help keep the games you love alive. In it, they talk to people like Tania “KillerMiller” Miller, and Sharon “Sharonasaurus” Yoo, both of them being the backbone of SoCal’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo scene. With Yoo managing the brackets and stream of their Wednesday Night Fights events, and Miller often promoting and putting in work herself as the West Coast’s best E. Honda player, these two women do a lot for the scene.

Also featured in the article are comments from Mia “TheIceyGlaceon” Martin–who helps run events in the Chicago area (while also competing in Catherine side events), and Caitlyn Thiher, the assistant events director of Combo Breaker, going to show that this is not solely a man’s realm anymore.

Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 English Site Launches, Coming Soon to PlayStation 3 & 4

Earlier today, Aksys Games (the US publisher for Arc System Works) made an announcement via Twitter; the official English website for the upcoming Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- expansion, REV 2 has just launched.

As we already know from Arc System Works, REV 2 will be available as either a standalone version or as a DLC pack that upgrades the game. PlayStation 4 users have the option of buying a physical copy, while Steam and PS3 only have a digital option. No price nor date has been yet specified, but Arc System Works stated that the price of the upgrade, which will be less than buying the game standalone, should be around ¥2,000–which is approximately $20 USD.

The Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 official website does not mention the Steam version of the game, because Aksys Games doesn’t handle it–as the company explained in a tweet. The recent PC ports have been handled directly by Arc System Works. The website details what content is included in REV 2:

  • Two new characters, Baiken and Answer enter the battle!
  • New stages, moves and motions are just the beginning of new content to explore!
  • Expanded story and arcade modes shed new light on Jam, Kum, Raven, Dizzy, Answer, and Baiken!
  • Complete re-balancing of each fighter means that everything old is new again!

While there isn’t a whole lot of new info on the site, a live website from Aksys Games means that the game is well on its way to getting published on consoles soon.

Stay tuned to SRK for any new developments and read up on our translated patch notes from the second location test for more information about REV 2.

Capcom Shows Off Footage of “The Way of the Hado” Mode for Ultra Street Fighter II

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers has been confirmed to have a first person mode, and Capcom has now shown off this mode in action on the latest episode of CapcomTV. Named “The Way of the Hado,” this mode is more like a rail shooter than a fighting game, with players throwing fireballs and Shoryukens at incoming Shadaloo soldiers.

Taking advantage of the Nintendo Switch’s JoyCons, players can actually throw a Hadouken by doing the famous pose while having a JoyCon in each hand. By aiming at portions of the screen, you can chuck plasma in different directions and even throw a Metsu Hadouken once the Super bar at the bottom of the screen has filled. If enemies get too close, you can also perform a Shoryuken by throwing your fist into the air.

The mode reuses assets from Street Fighter IV, but the motion controls are unfortunately looking a bit iffy. While maybe a bit of fun for a few minutes, “The Way of the Hado” has the look of a novelty to play once and then forget about, at this point.

You can watch the footage in the video below (and do note that the audio somehow desyncs during this segment, so don’t worry about your computer being on the blink).
