Skullgirls 2nd Encore Patch Now Available: Adds Huge Gameplay Adjustments, Lobbies, and More
Skullgirls has announced today that their latest patch for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita versions of Skullgirls 2nd Encore is available for download right now for US players:
DEPLOY! #Skullgirls' Lobby Patch is out for PS4 and PS Vita in the US, and Steam worldwide! Full patch notes here: https://t.co/CSm2qomGIV
— Skullgirls (@Skullgirls) January 23, 2017
The patch is only available for PlayStation consoles right now, but check this helpful chart showing the submission status of other regions and consoles. This sheet is a screen shot of the their patch notes page at time of writing–and will not auto-update with any changes–so make sure to get your latest info directly from them.

Once you’ve downloaded the patch, you’ll see a little plus sign that appears on the end of “Skullgirls 2nd Encore,” like you see below:

The full patch notes have been made available on their site, here. It’s a bit of reading, but the headlines are the inclusion of lobbies and spectator mode, as well as a lot of gameplay changes and bug fixes to the cast. Characters like Robo-Fortune, Fukua, Peacock, Big Band, and Beowulf got some of the biggest changes, but it’s worth reading through everyone. There is a followup patch that will be coming to add Japanese voices and further bug fixes, but this is probably the final gameplay update for the game before Lab Zero fully moves on to Indivisible, their upcoming platformer title.

Eliza in Tekken 7? A Season Pass? According to Gamesplanet UK: Yes!
Those of us hungry for news about Tekken 7’s impending home console release are by now well-aware that Bandai Namco has announced the long-awaited console release for June 2, 2017. Additionally, sharp eyes have spotted that Tekken 7’s store page has gone live on Gamesplanet UK, and includes some juicy details that we hadn’t yet heard.
For one, we know now that Tekken Revolution’s exclusive vampire character, Eliza, will feature in Tekken 7 as a pre-order incentive. This is the first we’ve heard of her inclusion.

Another first is the news that Tekken 7 will include a Season Pass, which will apparently include “access to stunning additional content”. Previously in the Tekken series, DLC has been free, and Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada has stated his dislike of paid DLC.
None of this has been confirmed yet by Bandai Namco, but Gamesplanet remains bullish about the accuracy of their claims on Twitter.
@CyberpunkGameFR @Flying_Wonkey Yes we are, the pre-order page details were confirmed with them before we launched. We didn't "leak" things.

Editor’s note: Eliza is being promoted in some versions of the “Rage and Sorrow” trailer as well:

Get to Know the Man Behind the Murderface with These Notes from Tokido’s Interview with DenfaminicoGamer
Recently, Echo Fox’s new resident murderface Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi was interviewed by Japanese gaming site DenfaminicoGamer. The interview covers a breadth of topics including some that have been discussed before, such as his motivations for going pro (if Daigo could do it, so could he). However, it also contains some interesting new material that hasn’t been covered before.
On his background in fighting games, while most people associate Tokido with Street Fighter and The King of Fighters, in the interview he reveals that he got his start with Virtua Fighter 2, which an older cousin introduced to him when they went to the arcade. According to him, practicing Virtua Fighter 2 helped him endure the boredom that he felt in school at the time, training every day for a year just to be able to beat his cousin. From VF2, he transitioned to other games, namely Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and KOF, joining his first ever tournament with the latter in 1998.
His in-game name of “Tokido” however stems from The King of Fighters. He became known for using a specific move from Iori Yagami where the character says “tonde,” “kikku shite,” and “doushita?!” from which “to-ki-do” was born.
He also talks a bit about his parents and the support that they gave him: they bought him his first ticket to Evo after all. Additionally, he goes on about how their perception of him playing video games changed after he won at Evo (in Capcom Vs SNK 2 in 2002). While they still didn’t understand the games themselves, they did understand the scale of the tournament and the prize money involved.
Speaking of money, he also reveals that he does get a salary from his management office. However, with the prize pools from tournaments increasing in value, he feels that he cannot neglect them as a source of income.
Now for those thinking of going professional, he states that while games are played primarily for fun and to relieve stress, aspiring pros shouldn’t treat the game that they play merely as a “game.” That said, while tournament wins are important, he states that they should also entertain their audience with fascinating play.
Of course, that’s just a part of this interview; you can head on over to DenfaminicoGamer for the full interview or, for those who can’t read Japanese, Sonigo’s translated notes over on TwitLonger.

The King of Fighters XIV’s Version 1.11 Patch Brings Some Minor Character Tweaks on Top of Netplay Fixes
The King of Fighters XIV’s version 1.11 update is currently now available for download on PlayStation 4. As expected, the update brings with it some fixes to the issues with the game’s online play, that came with the previous 1.10 patch.

Shine Releases Official Trailer and Opens Early Bird Registration
New England’s big Smash major, Shine, was already announced for 2017–to be held on August 27th through 28th in Boston, Massachusetts. However, much about the tournament was left up in the air.
Things now are starting to get fleshed out. We now have a trailer for this tournament, already a huge success going into only its second year.
But that’s not all. Shine is now in its early registration period, with players receiving two $5 discount codes up until February 5th; one for themselves and one for a friend. As an added bonus for those faithful to the Shoryuken, it’s also been announced that Street Fighter V will be joining the roster, at an event that garnered 2500 participants for Super Smash Bros. 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in 2016.

This comes directly contrary to earlier statements that the game would be releasing in “Early 2017”, and means that the original version will have been present in Japanese arcades for more than two years before home gamers get their hands on it.
The trailer also confirms the existence of a special Collectors edition of Tekken 7, which includes a “Unique Game Mode, Special Character and Exclusive costumes”, alongside a steelbook, soundtrack and a figure featuring Kazuya and Heihachi.
