Tenkaichi Budokai, Guilty Gear’s Version of Topanga League, Starts January 8

The Topanga League was one of Japan’s biggest esports draws of the Street Fighter IV era. Its format has been used across the board, including Europe’s Kakutop league and Korea’s Tukyeon League, ran by Spirit Zero.

Now, the Tenkaichi Budokai league in Japan is using this model to run a Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- league. Unlike many leagues that have had issues with foreigners watching live, such as using domestic streaming services that often have a paywall, this league will be streamed live on Twitch.

Featured in the league are famed Japanese Guilty Gear players Roi, Nage, FAB, Summit, Kazuki, Zaki, Haaken, and Karinchu in two separate groups. If you are a Guilty Gear fan, you owe it to yourself to tune in to http://www.twitch.tv/joniosan.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike 2007 Combo Art DVD “Shiki” by Logical Illusion Now Viewable Online

Classic combos for a classic fighter!

The Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike combo DVD “式-Shiki-” by Logical Illusion/Studio L, originally sold back in 2007, has been made available for viewing on YouTube. It’s a huge combo compilation featuring every character in 3rd Strike; arguably, much of this material could still be considered the “high water mark” for a few characters. The video includes a maximum combo hit-count for the entire roster, as optimized as anyone knew back in 2007. The video was uploaded with direct permission from Tosaka of Serial-experiments-T (the main combo creator for this project).

combovid.com’s listed highlights include:

  • SF3:3S Chun Li double Tensei-Ranka at 2:58
  • Remy charge partitioning at 7:09
  • Ryu mid-juggle Hurricane Kick at 13:20
  • Oro freestyle exhibition at 20:25
  • Dudley whiff Corkscrew Blow at 21:50

The Beast vs. The Machine: Daigo’s Guile Faces Poongko’s Urien in This Trio of FT2 Ranked Sets in Street Fighter V

Given their myriad of buffs in Street Fighter V’s Second Season, it’s no secret that a great many top players are taking a look at two of Season One’s DLC characters Guile and Urien, who have improved dramatically with this patch–to the point where many now consider them the two strongest characters in the entire game. We’ve seen what Alienware’s Nemo can do with the Vice-President of the Illuminati, but it seems he’s not the only one taking to the “Dominating Light,” as Team Secret’s Lee “Poongko” Chung Gon has been using him frequently on his stream as of late. Conversely, Daigo Umerhara has cooled off a bit on his signature Ryu–likely due to some of the nerfs the World Warrior has incurred in the Second Season, and has been focusing the majority of his time on the American family man Guile, to some great results.

Now, Xuses brings us a trio of first-to-two Ranked matches between the Machine and The Beast, utilizing their new mains, displaying what both of these post-launch roster additions are capable of in the current iteration of the game with all of their new tools. While these two have battled many times over the years in both Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, who will win their latest encounter? You can catch the video below to find out.

Your Ultimate Guide to Getting into Killer Instinct

New Year, new you, and a new fighting game–if those thoughts entered your mind at the start of 2017, Killer Instinct might just be the game to set eyes on. What’s more, it’s never been easier to pick up the fighter from Iron Galaxy Studios thanks to a comprehensive, easy-to-understand internet guide.

Infil wrote up a guide in HTML that covers all aspects of the game, from core concepts to details on individual characters. Beginning with movement, health, throws, and similar, the compendium explains the intricacies of techniques that use Shadow Meter to turn the tables. The rest of the categories delve into the deep combo system, Combo Breakers, and the cast from each season.

The guide includes language and explanations that will sound familiar to Street Fighter players, so it’s easy to relate when jumping from Capcom’s fighter. In addition, a lot of the text has mouse-over links with extra info, and the pages are filled with accompanying videos.

Check out the Complete Killer Instinct Guide by Infil et al., as well as the helpful Resources page, which includes various additional sources to pick up the game.
