More Tech for Street Fighter V Season 2: Zangief, Alex, Juri, Ken, Dhalsim, & Guile

Buckle in, all you guys and gals who main characters who don’t start with “A” and end with “kuma.” We have another roundup chock-full of all the tech, combos, and matchups you could ask for.

Itabashi Zangief is used to fighting against the odds. Given his disposition for using Zangief, he has fought his share of bad matchups throughout the years. For Zangief mains, there was probably one particular character introduced this season that they didn’t want to see, and it was Akuma.

Hameko was probably smirking when he saw Zangief pop up on his Vs. screen in this set. However, when up against Itazan, it’s not necessarily the best outcome he could hope for.

Let’s go to the tale of the tape here. Uryo was a Street Fighter IV mainstay, yet a vagabond of sorts. Having played C. Viper in the original edition and Super Street Fighter IV, he moved on to Sakura in Arcade Edition and landed on Chun-Li for the finale. Solid with all three characters, he was ranked within the top 50 in all iterations of the game. In Street Fighter V, he has made quite the departure by moving on to Alex and has done well on a limited schedule.

AiAi, on the other hand, has went through far less traversal through the cast during his time in the game. Having stuck with Juri in Street Fighter IV, he played some Chun-Li in Street Fighter V before switching to Juri when she released. But who ultimately has the strongest play since? Let’s find out!

Next, we have Team Spooky’s Arturo Sanchez putting some mileage on his Dhalsim online. One of the best Dhalsims on the planet, he is adapting to the changes in Season 2 well, and his Dhalsim is looking pretty slick.

Here are some new season 2 meaty setups for Ken, Should you find yourself with your opponent knocked down at a loss of what to do, let this be your guide.

Finally, we have updates on Daigo Umehara’s Guile. It looks like it’s shaping up quite nicely, as it seems that Daigo has decided in the argument over Ryu’s counterpick, “If you can’t beat them, join them.”

Give in to Your Murderous Intent with Oni’s CFN Portal Character Profile & Akuma’s Street Fighter V Concept Art

After profiling the Mad Gear gang’s “Headbutt Brigade” earlier this week–before taking some time off for the Christmas holiday–the CFN Portal site is back with a special post-Holiday treat: to honor Akuma’s recent addition to the playable cast of Street Fighter V, the Shadaloo Activity Report has finally released their report on the final currently-revealed playable cast member in the franchise, as well as some concept artwork for the “Master of the Fist!” First introduced to the series as a time-release character in 2010’s Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, it’s the “Mad Demon,” Kuruoshiki Oni!

Private Nakagawa: “Scaaaryyyy! It’s a bit soon to scatter beans though, [this update being posted on December 26th; he’s referencing 節分 Setsubun, when children throw beans at demons, usually their fathers in disguise] This is the form Akuma will take after continued exposure to the Satsui no Hadō!

Basic Info:

Name: Kuruoshiki Oni
Height: Unknown
Weight: Unknown
Blood type: Unknown
Birthday: Unknown
Home Country: Unknown
Likes: Unknown
Dislikes: Unknown

Private Nakagawa: A demon god who has lost and emotion and feeling in his body, and whose existence is entirely devoted to fighting and battle. Satsui no Hadō continuously flows from his body. He beats his opponents with violent techniques, such as Rakan Dantōjin [“Arhat-severing Tower Blade.”/”Demon Slash.” His half-circle-forward + kick special from USFIV.] or Sekisei Jiraiken! [“Red Star Landmine Fist.”/”Ground Pound.” His Dragon Punch + kick special from USFIV.] His physique has improved, and so has his strength.

In addition to this 213th Character Profile, the CFN Portal site has also released some new concept art for Akuma, showcasing how the Raging Demon’s new look slowly began to take shape in Street Fighter V, before he became the lion-esque, bearded beast we now have today. First some words from Director Takayuki Nakayama!

Director Nakayama: Although the Raging Demon has finally been released, his appearance has been redesigned. Here are some of the rough pictures drawn when we were introducing his new design.

Naked Upper Body ver.

akuma-shirtless-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: His waist is a bit slim. The gi and wild beard are close to what we adopted.

South American Demon ver.

akuma-south-american-sfv-concept-artwork

Director Nakayama: If you came back to South America and lived there for life, there is exactly such as guy, and it is a Mad Demon that cannot come out to appear.

Is it Hot or Cold? ver.

akuma-bear-claw-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: He was thrown away because his coat was gloomy. Since he was attacked by a bear when it became a little chilly, he defeated it and made it into a scarf.

I picked up a baby ver.

akuma-baby-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: His V-Trigger rocks the baby to sleep. By doing so, you can demonstrate his original power. He never comes down from his back. A baby can appear as “a character brought up by a Mad Demon” in a few years. It’s a super delicious setting.

Almost Completed ver.

akuma-almost-completed-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: There is nothing, it is almost a finished version of the Raging Demon. Actually, it is almost what I drew up in a meeting for the first time. In other words, while keeping the designs of past works as well, I tried and tried to make a new Demon. The baby’s topic is fine. The development members were also hit by the loveliness of Ako. Please look forward to next time.

That brings us to the end of another CFN profile. Will the Andore Family or the members of the Mad Gear Gang from Final Fight 2 be spotlighted in the coming days? Keep your browser locked right here to Shoryuken, as we’ll be covering the next profiles as they are released! But if you’re looking for more Oni action, you can catch him in the latest issue of UDON’s Street Fighter Unlimited #12, which is on sale now for $3.99 USD, anywhere comic books are sold!

Watch Some of Japan’s Best Smashers in This Highlight Video from Sumabato Tokaigi Qualifier

While most eyes are trained upon the USA when it comes to discussing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Japan’s scene is as exciting when it comes to tournaments, with tons of upsets and lesser known players coming out of hiding to take large events.

At the moment, the Japanese scene is captivated by the Tokaigi 2017 qualifiers, a series of events which is leading up to the NicoNico Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Championships, which will be held in February at Tokaigi 2017. Winners of select events will be invited to compete in this final showdown, where one player will be made champion. 2016’s event saw LG|Abadango take the crown but with the talent pool in Japan growing ever stronger, 2017’s Championship looks to be a close one.

The most recent qualifier was Sumabato’s Tokaigi event, which saw players like Ranai, DNG|Nietono, Earth, HIKARU and You3 battling for those three qualifying spots for Tokaigi 2017. Those spots eventually went to DNG|Kameme, who played a grand total of six characters on his journey to qualification, Japan’s greatest Olimar Shuton and ikep, widely regarded as Japan’s greatest Bayonetta and fresh off a win at Karisuma 11.

If you were unable to catch the qualifier, check out these highlights from Tetra and gander at the translated Challonge page to see the gauntlet players had to conquer for those three positions.

MOV, Takumi Sign Sponsorship Deals with Team GRAPHT

Big things are happening for Joe “MOV” Egami:. the longtime FGC mainstay has just signed a professional contract with Team GRAPHT.

GRAPHT, a Japanese company specializing in geek apparel, announced today that they had signed MOV, who finished in 5th place at both Evolution 2016 and Capcom Cup 2016. This will be a major move for Egami, who is already running a house dedicated to competitive fighting game practice in Japan.

Also being signed in the same move was Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 player Takumi, who has done well on the circuit with his play of Magneto/Wesker/Doctor Doom. With Marvel 3 in a plateau of sorts, one can think this may be forward-thinking to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
