Street Fighter V Servers Going Down For Maintenance on October 25

Capcom occasionally takes down the servers for Street Fighter V to conduct maintenance on them. Whether it’s to apply a new patch, or just fix some issues with match making, these down times represent a good chunk of time where Street Fighter V players are unable to play online or earn Fight Money.

It seems that one such maintenance period is scheduled this week.  Hopping on to Street Fighter V, a new system message states that the game’s online servers will be taken down for maintenance on October 25 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM PDT. You can see a screenshot of the system message below.

STREET FIGHTER V_20161024101908

Capcom has not revealed what the maintenance is for, so it’s probably just routine matchmaking fixes rather than a new patch. Additionally, the message states that the maintenance hours are subject to change.

Cooler and Frieza Exact Their Revenge in These Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Gameplay Trailers

While Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 fans are eagerly buzzing about the recently-announced inclusion of Dragon Ball Super’s Hit, Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has shifted the spotlight to two of the most heinous villains in the Dragon Ball Universe, the tyrannical Cooler and Frieza.

One of the biggest selling points of Xenoverse 2’s expanded roster is the inclusion of characters from the Dragon Ball movies, including Frieza’s older brother Cooler, who has previously seen playable action in past titles such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and 3, Raging Blast 2 and Infinite World. The newest gameplay trailer highlights his Final Form, which he utilized against Goku in Cooler’s Revenge. On display are the Galactic Overlord’s Death Ball, Death Beam and, his Ultimate attack, the Supernova Cooler, as he battles Super Saiyan Goku. You can view his Trailer below.

Next up, is a gameplay trailer for his younger brother, Frieza!

Arguably the most infamous antagonist in the Dragon Ball franchise, who needs no introduction, Frieza returns to Xenoverse 2 with all of his signature abilities in tact, such as his Death Beam, Death Ball, a throw with his tail wrapped around his opponent’s neck, which he used against Goku on Namek.  There is unfortunately no footage of Golden Frieza, despite the video’s thumbnail, sadly.

Do you look forward to using either of these icy galactic despots in Xenoverse 2?  Especially with Frieza’s Universe 6 equivalent, Frost, set to join the roster as part of the game’s first DLC Pack?

Learn About Amane’s New Midscreen Pressure in BlazBlue: Central Fiction

Amane Nishiki is a fairly niche character in the BlazBlue series. His first appearance in BlazBlue: Chronophantasma wasn’t the most spectacular despite his affinity for drama and the stage. While he used to be a relatively low-tier character, the drill and chip-damage specialist received a more well-rounded toolset in Central Fiction.

Eshi, also known as “One Punch Amane,” compiled a useful overview where he explains some of Amane’s options for midscreen okizeme, or wake-up pressure. Since Amane is a stronger character now, the guide is also helpful for those who don’t plan on using this character, as the knowledge of his options could serve well in tournament play. Eshi lists a few ways to get around Amane’s attacks and keep in mind that many characters could have escape tools specific to them.

To study Amane in action, Eshi also recorded a long set with commentary that explains his gameplay flow and strategy:

The CFN Portal Reveals “Heroes & History” Secret Rejected Costumes for the Street Fighter V Cast

In the past, Capcom’s CFN Portal has released a series of concept art pieces providing us with a look at potential alternate costumes that inevitably met with the cutting room floor during Street Fighter V’s development. There have been superhero costumes, zombie costumes and various other outfits. This time, the theme is “Heroes & History,” featuring Balrog, Zangief, Chun-Li and Urien paying homage to various famous heroes and figures throughout the annals of time and legend. The website states that ” unlike the zombie costumes, these alts may be considered for production if there is a lot of hope and requests for them!” You can view concept art of each of these costumes below, with a brief description of how each one was created, and what they represent.

Balrog

“Those iron ball gloves equipped to his arm look painful! We imagined him in the image of a Gladiator. It’s got a good feeling, right?”

Zangief

zangief-heroes-history-secret-costume

“His horns and the cloak are gorgeous. Exactly like a hero! He feels like he’d likely say, ‘Speak up, I can’t hear you!’, huh?”

Chun-Li

“We modeled her roughly after the image of much of 12th Century China. She feels like she’s something that came out of that classic novel ‘Water Margin’. That’s a meat bun in her hand.”

Urien

“He’s completely a Persian king. And very cinematic. A skinheaded Excellency feels like a fresh novelty.”

“And that’s what we’ve got! Such is the feeling! We quite liked the concept of heroes and history, but, if at all possible, I think I want to associate the costumes to famous heroes from each character’s respective country of origin.”

(This time in charge: Zhongshan)

Lastly, we’ve got a special bonus for you: an additional superhero secret costume that was added to the site’s post after our initial coverage. What follows is a supervillain outfit for Juri Han, that allows the Spider to give off a strong Rita Repulsa vibe.

Evil Storm

“The mysterious woman who manipulates the sinister wind. She doesn’t belong to any organization, but the mysterious warrior enjoys battle. ….Apparently a mysterious energy material is hidden underneath her eyepatch.”

What do you think of these rejected, secret costume concepts?  Are there any that you would like to see make it to the game for real in the future?  If so, let us know in the comments below! Stay tuned to Shoryuken, where we’ll provide you with more coverage of secret costumes if they’re released.

The Best of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Photos from Digital Figure Mode

The recent 1.03 patch introduced a new mode to Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. Digital Figure Mode allows players to get started on a collection which includes characters and backgrounds. They can arrange them in scenes, pose in different ways, and share on social media.

Arc System Works hosted a contest for Tweeting pictures with the hashtag #GGXrd_Photo. While the contest ended on October 10th, we took the time to look through and curate some of the best — or more interesting — entries.

Here they are:

Sin has enough food to share, but his face when someone wants a little meat is priceless.

Where did Chipp learn the Sand Clone Jutsu?!

It looks like Leo picked up new powers as well.

Didn’t type Faust as a rock fan before, but it makes sense, actually.

They say that if Potemkin anti-airs correctly 13 times in a round, an angel will appear.

Who rode it better?

Perhaps a reference to the Midnight Carnival?

One of these days, Beak Driver will go too far… but Raven is just fine with that.

Would Sin choose Elphelt over Ramlethal?

Who knew Guilty Gear could be so romantic?

Wow, Ky. We know Dizzy wasn’t part of the original Xrd -SIGN- cast, but you lost Hope a little too soon.

Fighting at the brink of dawn, or a reference to Gold characters from the past versions?

This caption sums it all up.

Which one was your favorite? Did you take any GGXrd Photos? Share with us in the comments.

Hit Shows Goku a Bad Time in His Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Gameplay Trailer

Earlier this week, Bandai Namco Entertainment dropped a bombshell on us when they revealed that Hit from Dragon Ball Super would be joining the launch roster of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, with a quick trailer reenacting a scene from his battle with Super Saiyan Blue Goku from the Universe 6 Saga. While that short tease surely wet the appetites of many fans, we now have a gameplay trailer, showing the Legendary Hitman doing what he does best: battering Goku around the World Martial Arts Tournament stage with a variety of melee attacks and counters, as well as showcasing his impressive speed and signature Time Skip and Vital Point Attack abilities.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America also uploaded a “Full Character Trailer,” for Hit, with an extra two seconds of footage, showing what happens after Hit’s punch connects with Goku’s face.

Lastly, Thundershot69 has provided us with a brief breakdown of Hit’s gameplay trailer, comparing his abilities to those he displays in the anime, in addition to speculating how his attacks will function within Xenoverse 2’s gameplay engine, based off of limited play time with him at the Bandai Namco Entertainment headquarters.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in North America on October 25th, October 28th in Europe and Australia, and November 2nd in Japan. The game will also see a worldwide release on Steam on October 27th.
