Marvel at These 100% Combos from “Jackie Chan in Fists of Fire”

Kaneko departed from this gaming world in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of controversial arcade titles. About a decade prior to that, however, they gave the world two bizarre little gifts: “The Kung-Fu Master Jackie Chan” and a subsequent arcade update, “Jackie Chan in Fists of Fire: Jackie Chan Densetsu”.

Featuring a cast of 9 characters (3 of which are Jackie Chan from various movie roles), this frenzied fighter has a four button magic series, cancelable forward dashes, and a limited juggle system. Its loose cancels, high damage, and 30 second timer create very tense and quick rounds. You might think 30 seconds is way too short for a fighting game, until you see that every character can do this:

You may never be in a position to play Fists of Fire legally–the game only appears  in arcade form, and it’s unlikely anyone will get distribution rights to the game anytime soon. If you have a NicoNico account, though, you can occasionally find this gem in some occasional offline tournaments in Japan.

Behold what lurks behind the latest update!

If you’re waiting for the Street Fighter V servers to come back up so you can grab the new selection of premium Halloween content–or if you’re on the fence as to whether these outfits are worth your money–you can get a sneak peek thanks to Xuses, who has uploaded this footage from the Twitch stream reveal. You can now see the spooky new outfits in action:

The footage reveals that the costumes can be button-code modified, just like the Capcom Pro Tour and swimsuit outfits (and Urien). Check out the video to see exactly how!

Xian on Pro Gamers: “I Definitely Think What We Do is Equivalent to Sport”

Singaporean news channel Channel NewsAsia interviewed RZR|Xian about his rise in the fighting game community, and other topics specifically surrounding his home nation. When asked for his thoughts on Singapore’s esports scene and the way professional players are perceived in his country, here are some things he had to say:

I definitely think what we do is equivalent to sport. We are training just as much as sportspeople train. There is more strategy involved in gaming, and you also need… to maintain focus and concentration, Games could even be harder than sports as you need mental fitness and hard work–with so many things to put into gaming, it should be taken more seriously.

He adds:

If you say talent for gaming, I definitely think Singaporeans have surpassed others (around the world), more so than in any other sports.

I wish the Singapore government would show more support for eSports, because I think our eSports players will definitely win more medals or golds than any sport out there, if we have the chance.

Though there are sure to be arguments on both sides of Xian’s opinion, many fighting gamers could probably agree about the dedication it takes to be a competitive gamer. Though we may not see any Olympic gaming teams in the near future [Editor’s note: Rio’s eGames Showcase was a notable step in that direction], conversations like these can be healthy for the evolution of the competitive gaming community as a whole.

HORI Silent Hayabusa Buttons and Seimitsu Massage Balltops Coming to Arcade Shock

Arcade Shock has made a name for themselves bringing specialized arcade parts over to the west. This week, they continue with a bunch of interesting new parts that players can pick up.

Those who play at night when their loved ones and housemates are sleeping know how much noise regular arcade pushbuttons can make. For those players, Arcade Shock is now carrying HORI’s latest line of silent Hayabusa buttons. These buttons are based on the same matte Hayabusa buttons featured on the Real Arcade Pro V Premium VLX Hayabusa that we reviewed earlier in the year. Like those buttons, these feature the same high sensitivity, meaning that players don’t need to use much force to activate them. What’s new is a layer of padding inside the stick to absorb the impact of plastic on plastic, lowering the noise they produced.

In addition to the above, Arcade Shock is now also carrying a new batch of Seimitsu’s special, limited edition “massage” balltops.  These special balltops are dimpled to help relieve some stress from the player’s palm. Only 60 of these balltops were ever made, 30 of which were made available at Evo 2016. Now, the remaining stock is up for purchase over at Arcade Shock. For those in Southern California, the company will also be bringing a limited number of these to SoCal Regionals 2016 this weekend.

Street Fighter V Servers Down Today for Halloween Update; Possible Arcade Mode and EX1 Colors on the Horizon

You’ll have to hold off the online grind for a little while, as Street Fighter V’s servers are down today to prepare for the arrival of the promised Halloween costumes and stage.

The premium Halloween content should be on sale starting tonight, to November 29th.

VesperArcade has taken to YouTube to talk about both this update, and speculation of future content–sparked by a datamined reference to a possible Arcade Mode recently found in SFV. A real Arcade Mode would please a lot of fans, so no surprise that Capcom may indeed have one in the works at last–but that’s not a likely surprise to emerge today. We may see rumored “EX1” colors for the cast soon, however–apparently seen in action at New York Comic Con, we should see these added to Street Fighter V if not tonight, then in the near future. Check out VesperArcade’s video below for more details.

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Gets New Trailer and Release Date for 2016’s Halloween Costumes

In the dead of night, Team Ninja released a new trailer for Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, showing this year’s Halloween outfits in motion. This year’s selection are as over the top as ever, matching the colorful cast to a tee.

35 of the playable characters will be receiving a new costume option. This unfortunately leaves out the most recently released DLC fighter, Mai Shiranui (from the King of Fighters series). Players will be able to purchase the new costumes for their favorite fighters or in one massive spooky package on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. PC players will only have the option to purchase the entire trick-or-treat ensemble.

According to the trailer, the costumes will be available starting today, October 11, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. Check out the latest trailer below!
