Circa eSports Continue Their FGC Expansion with Rivals of Aether Team

Circa eSports are steadily building themselves a killer roster of FGC names, and today they announced that they are continuing that push by investing in four Rivals of Aether players – TurquoiseColor, ProDoubleSushi, TandoriBraetus and Zam.

Each of these players are top representatives for their character and consistent tournament threats, a status quo that is not expected to change as Rivals of Aether moves towards release.

The team joins Circa’s already impressive roster of FGC players, which includes Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player 6WX, Street Fighter V’s LPN, Combo Breaker 2016’s Tekken 7 winner Anakin, 3-time 8-Bit Beatdown Champion Nicky, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 player Jibrill.

With such a strong line up, we should probably get used to hearing a lot more about Circa in the coming months.

Venture Beat Shares Some Behind the Scenes Impressions of Street Fighter V’s Balrog

As previously reported, the rest of Street Fighter V’s post-launch characters will be playable (in a somewhat incomplete state) in the game’s upcoming Story Mode later this month. One of those characters is none other than Balrog, the series’ iconic boxer from Street Fighter II.

For those who absolutely can’t wait for the end of June to try Balrog out, here’s something that may brighten your day: Venture Beat fighting game specialist (and Shoryuken forum veteran) Stephen “Sosage” Kleckner was invited by Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas to give the boxer a quick spin behind closed doors. While Kleckner’s time with Balrog was short–about 2 to 3 minutes total–he was still able to glean some important bits of information.

One big change, especially for players coming from SFIV, is that Balrog isn’t really able to jab his way out of trouble anymore. His jabs in this game aren’t as fast as they were in IV, and Rosas himself confirmed that this boxer is “a less jabby version.”

A bigger change, though, is that his Buffalo Headbutt appears to be gone. This is a major change for Balrog, as the move not only served as an anti-air, but could also be used to move him forward and apply pressure against fireball characters. When asked about this, Rosas simply shrugged. However, there are hints that the answer to this could be in his V-Skill.

The boxer’s V-Skill has him spin like in his Turn Around Punch, and the move that Balrog throws out post-spin depends on what button the player presses. While Kleckner wasn’t able to test whether or not his V-Skill goes through projectiles, he theorizes that it might.

Of course that’s not all. You can check out the rest of the article, including Kleckner’s impressions of Balrog’s V-Trigger, over at Venture Beat.

Kim Kaphwan, Luong and Gang-Il Get Their Kicks in The Latest King of Fighters XIV Team Trailer

Things are heating up for SNK’s The King of Fighters XIV. The game is making its rounds in Japan and is scheduled to make an appearance next week at E3 and Wednesday Night Fights.

Before that, SNK has dropped another one of their weekly team trailers, this time for Team Kim. Unlike previous installments where he’s teamed with criminals in need of reform, this time he’s teaming up fellow kick specialists Luong and Gang-Il.  We’ve already seen a lot of the former, however this is the first time we’ve seen Gang-Il, who’s supposedly Kim’s master, in action.

The King of Fighters XIV launches on PlayStation 4 on August 23.

Ed Boon Asks Players To Vote for Characters They Want to See in Injustice 2

Now that the cat’s out of the bag and Injustice 2 has been officially announced, it’s that time when people start speculating which DC characters will be added to the cast.

To add some more fuel to the fire, NetherRealm’s Ed Boon has recently gone on Twitter with a poll, asking players to vote for who they would like to see the most in the new game. This particular poll includes only three character choices: Blue Beetle, Captain Cold, and Swamp Thing.

Blue Beetle has always been a favorite among DC fans. More importantly, his magical scarab-powered battle suit could fit in well with the game’s gear mechanic.

Captain Cold, on the other hand, is one of the Flash’s villains–one of his more popular ones at that. Some fans have noted that parts of the trailer already hint at his appearance in the game, so his inclusion in the poll is noteworthy.

Made popular by legendary creator Alan Moore, Swamp Thing is an elemental entity that can animate any plant and vegetable matter near itself. As with the Blue Beetle, this could play well into Injustice 2’s gear mechanic.

Injustice 2 is currently set for a 2017 release date. We’re bound to know more about it and its cast in the months to come.

Capcom Reveals Story Mode Details, Ability to Play Future DLC Characters, and More in Street Fighter V’s June Update Notes

Capcom has provided some major details for Street Fighter V’s highly anticipated June update, including new information on DLC characters and store pricing. All six of the downloadable characters included in the game’s season pass will be playable in the game’s story mode, according to the blog post on Capcom-Unity.

The SFV Story Expansion is said to be three to four hours long and will bridge the gap between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III. Titled, “A Shadow Falls,” the story will follow the cast as they battle against M. Bison and the forces of Shadaloo in a five chapter arc.

While fans expected the release of Ibuki alongside the June update, Urien, Balrog and Juri will also be playable within story mode. Players will still need to wait a few months for the full release of the latter three characters, but the news should come as a welcome surprise to those excited to test out these upcoming additions!

Additionally, Capcom has finally detailed the pricing for the game’s premium content, which also includes a decision to bypass the whole Zenny idea and stick to regular money. New characters will cost 100,000 Fight Money, or $5.99, while new stages will cost 70,000 Fight Money or $3.99. Alternate versions of stages, such as the daytime Kanzuki Estate, will cost 40,000 Fight Money, or $1.99.

Premium costumes, which had previously only been available as pre-order bonuses, will be sold for $3.99 each and cannot be purchased with Fight Money. For those unwilling to play through story mode, the characters’ Story Costumes will now be sold for $1.99 or 40,000 Fight Money as well.

Item Cost (USD) Cost (Fight Money)
New Character 5.99 100,000
New Stages 3.99 70,000
Alternate Stages 1.99 40,000
Story Costumes 1.99 40,000

Those in need of some extra fight money for the upcoming content can score it through the new Story Mode. Completion on Normal Mode will yield 30,000 and unlock a harder difficulty. Completing the story a second time on Extra Mode will provide a total of 80,000 FM, enough for a new stage.

Looking beyond the June update, Capcom will also be working to implement new single player modes, Extra Battle and standard Versus CPU. An altered daily challenge feature called Targets which will allow players to earn Fight Money by achieving preset goals.

There’s still no set release date for Street Fighter V’s June update but be sure to stay tuned to SRK for the latest.

Slip Over Lows with Pre-Jump Frame Cancels in Pokkén Tournament

YouTube content creator Amphorce has discovered that you can cancel the pre-jump frames in Pokkén Tournament into any move.

Since pre-jump frames in Pokkén avoid both low attacks and throws on frame one, this opens up a variety of option selects both in Field Phase and on wakeup. In particular, this allows for previously impossible punishes against some moves (such as, in the example of the video above, Garchomp’s low-hitting CA).

As long as it involves a button, as demonstrated, it is possible to use these pre-jump frames to your advantage. The technique is difficult, as it only grants you a few frames of invincibility, but with it you can do cheeky things like pre-jump over a low/throw, then block. It gives the appearance of attacks harmlessly passing through you. Do note that the footage above demonstrates this tactic as it applies to Sceptile; more testing may reveal slight variance in timings with character who have different frame data on their jump.
