Street Fighter V’s Next Beta Session to Feature Cross-Platform Play

While we still don’t know when it will all go down, Capcom has released some other information concerning Street Fighter V’s second beta phase.

As you may already know, players on PC will be able to get in on the action when the beta reopens sometime this fall, but they won’t be kept from the experienced PlayStation 4 users. According to Capcom’s Neidel “Haunts” Crisan, the next beta session is set to feature cross-play between the two platforms.

If you plan to take part in this upcoming testing phase, you’ll find minimum and recommended PC specifications over in the original Capcom-Unity post. Further details will be coming in the near future.

Street Fighter V is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 and PC sometime next spring.

Street Fighter V Will Not Have On-Disc Downloadable Content

One of the issues that people had with some of Capcom’s recent fighting game releases in the past console generation was the presence of downloadable content on disc. While 2012’s Street Fighter x Tekken was the most infamous example, other games like Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 used this practice as well.

Apparently, Street Fighter V won’t be following in their footsteps. When asked about the topic by Game Revolution at Tokyo Game Show, Capcom senior manager Matt Dahlgren’s reply was short and sweet: “There will not be on-disc DLC, for sure.”

This confirmation goes hand-in-hand with Capcom’s stated plans for Street Fighter V’s post-launch content. Not only are the developers planning to continuously expand the upcoming title’s cast beyond the initial 16 characters available at launch, they will also make them (and all gameplay related post-launch content) earnable via in-game currency.

Street Fighter V will launch on PlayStation 4 and PC sometime during spring 2016.

Mezco Reveals Mortal Kombat X Variation Figures for Kitana, Quan Chi, and Kotal Khan

One of the interesting things that Mortal Kombat X introduced is multiple fighting styles for each character. Aside from their revised movesets, each variation also has a unique look that sets it apart from the others. This, in turn, is something that also translates well into the world of collectible action figures.

Mezco recently released a preview of their upcoming line of 6-inch variation figures from Series 2 of their Mortal Kombat X line. These feature Mournful Kitana, Sorcerer Quan Chi, and Blood God Kotal Khan.

To be as true to the game as possible, each figure is designed using the actual digital files from NetherRealm Studios themselves, with 17 points of articulation to allow accurate movement.

Pre-orders for these figures are available over at Big Bad Toy Store and Entertainment Earth for $19.99 each. Big Bad Toy Store also has the complete set for $58.99. The figures themselves are expected to ship sometime in December of this year.

Smtih stops Boschiero to set up world title shot

British super featherweight contender Stephen Smith (23-1, 13 KOs) stopped former world title challenger Devis Boschiero (37-4-1, 19 KOs) in the 6th round in an IBF eliminator on Saturday night at the Olympia in Liverpool.
Smith knocked Boschiero down five times in the fight. He dropped the Italian twice in the second round, once in the 4th and twice in the 6th.
A right hook in the second round sent Boschiero to the canvas, and he was put down again from the follow up punches.

CEOtaku Reveals Official Mascot, Asks Community for Help Naming Her

Like many anime conventions, CEOtaku has gone the extra mile by commissioning a special mascot to represent their brand.

Designed by fabulous Northern California artist Joelyn “Shunao” Lai, the CEOtaku mascot takes inspiration from a number of sources, including organizer Alex Jebailey’s “waifu” Hibiki Takane (The Last Blade, Capcom vs. SNK 2), Guilty Gear, and the tournament’s own color scheme. The gallery below highlights Shunao’s early concepts as she worked on bringing this character to life.

But there’s only one problem: she doesn’t have a name! To correct this, Jebailey has turned to the fighting game community, asking players to take part in a poll to determine which moniker is the best. You’ll find this poll over at CEO Gaming, so feel free to take part if you feel strongly about your favorite.

CEOtaku is scheduled for October 17-18 in Orlando, Florida. Online registration is open here. Those interested in checking out more of (or even purchasing!) Shunao’s art can find her on Store Envy, Twitter, and Tumblr.
