Grab Ultra Street Fighter IV on Steam for Only $15

Steam is set to provide a variety of sales on Capcom titles during yet another publisher weekend, and since the concept of what constitutes the “weekend” is apparently pretty flexible, you can start taking advantage of these deals now.

While there’s a lot of great stuff here, including Resident Evil 4, the recent DuckTales remaster, and more, fighting game fans will definitely want to check out Ultra Street Fighter IV’s markdown if they haven’t grabbed it on PC already. Capcom’s flagship fighter is currently available for half its normal price, bringing it down to just $14.99.

Now, it’s true the title experienced its fair share of issues upon release, but reports from players say the netcode has vastly improved from where it stood at launch thanks to recent patches. That being said, I can’t personally verify these claims, so proceed with caution.

If you also happen to be in the market for some new duds, the Arcade Edition alternate costume bundle has seen a similar markdown and can be purchased for $7.49.

These sales are likely to be available until Monday, so be sure to jump on them before it’s too late.

Mortal Kombat X’s Interactable Armor May Need Normalizing

Mortal Kombat X has see its fair share of gameplay issues since its release in April, but the most recent is a doozy.

Similar to Injustice: Gods Among Us, the tenth installment of Mortal Kombat features a wide array of stage interactables, most of which give characters new mobility options to escape corners, get space from their opponents, and more. The newer title, however, allows players to burn meter and put armor on these interactions, making them safer in the process. Though they may be a little too safe.

According to a new discovery by Test Your Might community members Pnut and Zoidberg747, armored interactables can completely blow through blockstun, allowing players to escape or even punish…well, just about anything. In his original video below, Zoidberg shows how D’Vorah’s Pterothorax (f112) string easily succumbs to this tactic despite its lack of frame gaps.

Zoidberg mentions that this can be done with every interactable in the game, leading him to posit that corner pressure is basically a thing of the past in Mortal Kombat X as long as this isn’t fixed. And since they are given multiple hits of armor, these interactables can’t be beat out by an armor-breaking move.

Expanding on this finding, Gilbogz provided a video showing how it can be used in certain situations without armoring the interactable.

Oh, and Kung Jin apparently gets a full combo off one of the punishes this discovery makes possible. Good times.

At this point in time, it may be a little premature to say this is absolutely game-breaking, but it certainly does raise some questions as to whether or not it should be allowed in competitive play. One possibility raised by a poll on Test Your Might mentions turning off interactables entirely, but results show around two-thirds of voters believe that isn’t necessary.

No word has been released by NetherRealm Studios as to the legitimacy of this gameplay quirk, but it’s likely we’ll see a hotfix released in the near future if it wasn’t intended during development.

What do you think? Could this wreck Mortal Kombat X competition without a fix? Feel free to provide your opinion in the comments.

Bandai Namco Shows Community Effort Orlando 2015 Some Tekken 7 Love

Earlier today, Mad Catz community manager Mark “MarkMan” Julio announced that Tekken 7 has seen yet another entry added to its North American itinerary in Community Effort Orlando 2015. After making trips to Northern California, Texas, and (soon) Chicago, the currently arcade-exclusive title will settle down in Florida and allow a new crop of locals to try it out for themselves next month.

As the last major before Evo 2015, this will also serve as the final chance for folks outside of Japan to get practice in before competition heats up in Las Vegas. Luckily, Julio informed us that they are working to make sure they have an updated build for Community Effort Orlando, which means there’s a distinct possibility visitors will be able to try out Yoshimitsu and his new tentacled attire, pictured above.

Community Effort Orlando 2015 is scheduled for June 26-28. More details can be found through their official website.

Mortal Kombat X Artist Shares Early Ermac Concepts

Some time back, NetherRealm Studios artist Justin Murray shared some of his concept art for Mileena, Ferra, and Torr as they appear in Mortal Kombat X. Now, Murray is back with another batch of concept art, this time for the series’ master of souls, Ermac.

The concept art shows a good number of concepts for the soul warrior, including some that didn’t make it into the final game. The most interesting one among these is definitely the version where Ermac is unmasked and totally devoid of his trademark red, all the while looking stockier than the svelte warrior we see in the final game, but every piece is a unique take on the classic fighter.

We’ve shared some of these concepts below, but be sure to head on over to Mortal Kombat Online for the rest.

ect-logo-ssb4-622-crop

Although East Coast Throwdown made waves by announcing perennial favorite Mortal Kombat will close out this year’s event instead of Street Fighter, they are ready to move into uncharted waters by adding two Smash titles to the lineup.

Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will add a mixture of old and new gameplay to the proceedings, an arena of competition that has yet to be seen at East Coast Throwdown. In order to make sure things go off without a hitch, the organizers have brought in an experienced lineup of tournament runners and broadcasters to oversee the new titles.

Additionally, both games will see a $500 pot bonus added to their prize pools, adding a little extra incentive for Smashers to check out the event.

East Coast Throwdown 2015 is scheduled for June 13-14 in Morristown, New Jersey. Feel free to check out the official website for more details.

killerinstinctone-tjcombo-screenshot-5-622-crop

The developers behind Killer Instinct will be providing substantial pot bonuses to tournaments thanks to their recent fundraising efforts. The first to be announced, Evo 2015, is set to receive half of the $100,000 raised, but new details released on Ultra-Combo reveal two more tournaments that will be getting in on the action as well.

Community Effort Orlando 2015 and Combo Breaker have been granted $15,000 and $10,000 respectively for their Killer Instinct prize pools, adding to some already impressive support heading their way. The higher amount of the former will allow organizers to spread the bonus throughout top sixteen, while folks who make it into top eight at the latter can look forward to a slice of the pie.

The community fund’s $100,000 cap was raised in just three days thanks to the sale of Killer Instinct downloadable content, which included the first public release of the Shadow Jago skin. Thanks to the dedication shown by fans across the world, Shadow Jago will eventually join the playable cast as his own unique character.

Combo Breaker is scheduled to take place May 22-24 in Chicago, Illinois, with Community Effort Orlando 2015 planning to turn up the heat in Florida this summer the weekend of June 26. Be sure to follow the previous links for more details on these events.

This announcement leaves $25,000 in the community fund, so stay tuned for word on more tournament support in the near future.
