Killer Instinct Community Fund Reaches $100,000 Goal in Three Days

killerinstinctone-complete-silhouette-622-crop

Starting on April 30, the Killer Instinct developers began collecting all of the funds accrued by downloadable content sales into a special community fund. This money, they announced, would be used to bolster prize pools at various fighting game events across the country as a way to give back to the fans who have made their game a success thus far.

With a cap of $100,000, I personally thought there would be a good amount of time and various updates between the beginning of the campaign and when that goal was met, but boy was I wrong. According to new details released by Microsoft community manager Mike Robles, the community reached that total in just three days.

This ridiculous amount of money brings with it some added perks. Evo 2015’s Killer Instinct prize pool will receive half of that amount, giving high-level players a ton more to look forward to as the world’s largest fighting game tournament rapidly approaches. Additionally, the developers are set to turn Shadow Jago into more than just a skin by giving him access to a competition-ready version of his boss moveset.

If you’re still interested in picking up the elusive Shadow Jago skin, the new Community Bundle will be available until May 14.

Mayweather scores dominant decision win over Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) and confirmed his status as the best boxer in the world on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
After years of hype, in the richest fight in boxing history, billed as the ‘Fight of the Century’, the unbeaten American used his superior ring skills to outbox Pacquiao over the 12 rounds and the judges scores were 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 in favour of Mayweather.

Beltran blasts out Ao but WBO title remains vacant

Ray Beltran (30-7-1, 18 KOs) knocked out two-time world champion Takahiro Ao (27-4-1, 12 KOs) in the second round on Friday night at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
But the Mexican did not win the vacant WBO lightweight title at stake because he was unable to make the weight.
Only Ao was eligible to win the title after Beltan weighed in 4 pounds over the 135-pound limit.
Beltran dropped the Japanese fighter with a huge right hand in the second round and got the stoppage with his follow up…

Project Soul Asks Fans to Indicate Their Favorite SoulCalibur Characters in New Poll

SoulCalibur Siegfried SMALL
Earlier today, the SoulCalibur Facebook page opened a poll to ask fans of the series who their favorite fighters from the long-running franchise are. While it’s exciting that they’re asking something like this, there’s very little information surrounding exactly what the company plans to do with the data once it’s collected. In their own words, Project Soul “is probably preparing something huge,” and it doesn’t really get much more ambiguous than that.

Based on the fact that this poll includes nearly every character from the series up until this point, those betting on a new title are probably closer to correct than those expecting this to be a poll just for the sake of polling, but, again, we currently have no way of knowing.

The poll has been set up so that each person only gets to vote once, and only for one character. Think it over. Take a couple of weeks to relive memories spent in the arcade slamming people around with Nightmare, or look back on those somber evenings spent rafting with Siegfried, but be sure that you get your vote in by May 31st, as the poll will be closing then.

Mortal Kombat X’s Tanya Sees Minor Visual Tweaks

Anyone who has completed the story mode for Mortal Kombat X has certainly run into a handful of characters that they wish had been playable from the time of the game’s release. One of those characters is the upcoming DLC fighter, Tanya.

As is stands, her in-game representation is far from complete, currently running without variants, without a full array of special moves and likely without all of the various strings that she’ll be equipped with once players get to take her to the arena for the first time. Many players have expressed concern for her current in-game representation, but may be pleased with the footage embedded below.

Thanks to a quick video from FKOutsider Yt, we can see that her appearance has been tweaked, albeit slightly. Once the brief in-game advertisement for Jason fades away, a fresh, new take on Tanya makes an appearance. You may notice that her general look has remained the same, but she has received some slight changes to the shape of her face, as well as new eyes that now emit a ghastly glow–a trait quite popular among the MK cast.

What do you all think about her new look? Let us know in the comments.

Next Batch Of MadCatz FightPads Will Be Coming After Street Fighter V

Over the past few months, MadCatz has been busy pushing their Tournament Edition 2 line of arcade sticks. While this effort has helped stick players get ready for the current generation of consoles, those who preferred playing on their FightPad line last gen have been somewhat left out.

Responding to a question about the lack of FightPads for the current generation of consoles, MadCatz’s Mark “MarkMan” Julio has stated that these won’t come out until after Street Fighter V launches.

As previously reported, MadCatz has entered into a partnership with Capcom for the game. One of the products that they’re working on as part of this is a new FightPad tentatively named the FightPad PRO. This is most likely the new FightPad that MarkMan is referring to in his tweet.

MadCatz To Releasing “Type-N” Namco Noir Style Replacement Panel For the Tournament Edition 2

MadCatz_Type-N_for_TE2_622x320

When MadCatz released their Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2, they mentioned that they would be releasing accessories to help players customize their sticks. Well, one of the first of these accessories will soon be available to players. In a recent tweet, MadCatz’ Mark “MarkMan” Julio announced that their Type-N replacement panel for the TE2 will be available soon.

The Type-N replaces the standard TE2 top panel (including the acrylic cover), which uses MadCatz’ interpretation of the Taito Vewlix button layout, with one that uses the curved Namco Noir layout.  This layout is based on the one seen in Namco’s Noir arcade cabinet for their latest Tekken games. Additionally, it’s also similar to the Sega “Astro” layout seen in many older arcade candy cabinets.

As of now, there’s no official release date for the Type-N replacement panel. Stay locked on to Shoryuken for more on this and other arcade stick related news.
