PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is getting a professional league that will debut in four regions in 2019. “Each league will include revenue share opportunities, with the first initiative available to teams in 2018” writes eSports Observer. PUBG professional esports competitions are already set for the next five years through 2023.
The latest PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds update to the test server has been deployed that mainly contains bug fixes that cropped up after the prior patch. In addition, one more update to close a significant bug that prevented players from reviving fallen companions and an incompatibility with cheat detection. Until that loophole is closed, the update will not be brought to live servers.
It appears that the legal tussle between Epic Games’ Fortnite and PUBG Corp’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is at an end. According to Bloomberg, PUBG Corp has sent a letter to Epic Games to inform them that it was dropping the lawsuit originally filed in January 2018. There is no particular reason cited regarding why the suit was dropped, but it is possible that Tencent stepped in to stop the bickering as both companies have a relationship with the gaming conglomerate.
PUBG Corp has released the brand new 4×4 Sanhok map into PlayerUnknow’sn Battlegrounds. It is designed to provide players with speedier combat. The content addition is a free update for everyone and also comes alongside the new progression tracking system and the new Event Pass: Sanhok.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developers have posted a new blog on the game’s Steam page to inform the community that, once the new Sanhok map is released next week, solo map selection will be going away. “We can’t support individual map selection for more than two maps”, the blog reads, because it “creates an essentially exponential increase in the number of total separate queues when combined with other queue options”.
The PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Steam page has an extensive blog post from the devs. The post is a sort of mea culpa where the team admits that it has fallen short development-wise on what the community has expressed a wish to see, namely performance and better communication about changes to the game. “We want to change that by talking in-depth about things we’re prioritizing” the blog reads.
The Korea Times (via GameInformer) is reporting that PUBG Corp, the company behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is suing Epic Games in Korea over copyright infringement with its game, Fortnite. The lawsuit wants a court to decide if Fortnite, or at least aspects of it such as the UI or in-game items, were copied from PUBG. The injunction was filed in January with the Seoul Central District Court and specifically against Epic Games Korea.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players will be able to participate in a new game mode starting today and running through May 27th. Called Ghillie Crossing, the event features crossbows and melee weapons only with all the action taking place on the Erangel map. Players will also be able to find Ghillie suits that will “spawn randomly alongside the usual world loot”. Great stuff for the “sneakiest of snakes”.
