With the Iconians ready to wage war on the Star Trek Online universe, the team is ready to re-introduce players to the threat in the form of a new serialized adventure called Uneasy Allies starring Denise Crosby. Two more blogs will be released between then and now to set things up for the March 26th release.
Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment have announced a new in-game event for Star Trek Online called "Delta Recruitment" that has been building for the past five years. The Iconians are poised to invade the universe resulting in all races putting out a call for recruits to fight the threat.
To honor Leonard Nimoy who immortalized Spock in Star Trek lore and who passed away last week, Cryptic Studios has placed an in-game memorial to honor his contribution to the Star Trek IP and to the game itself. The monument is gorgeous, a true testament to design. We will simply leave its image to speak for itself.
The Star Trek Online team has posted a lengthy developer blog about how Sector Space is being overhauled to make it a more seamless journey through space without invisible walls and dead ends to hang players up. One of the best pieces of news for players and fans of the entire Star Trek IP is the realignment of sectors to place them in the correct locations based on existing Star Trek lore. Cryptic acknowledges that over time several key sectors had been placed outside the norm.
From February 26th through March 2nd, Star Trek Online captains will be able to take advantage of a special double experience weekend. Content that provides skill points and expertise will be rewarded with 100% extra experience. The move is to help players prepare to take on the forces in the Delta Quadrant. The Star Trek Online site has a new design blog that delves into the process behind the creation of command ships. The post reveals how brainstorming is integral to making command ships, the game’s support team, different mechanically from all other ships. Command ships benefit from several key buffs that can be applied across the board.
The Star Trek Online site has been updated with a new post that introduces the forthcoming Tier 6 Command Battlecruisers. The Command Captain Specialization tree and Command Bridge Officers were recently introduced into STO during its anniversary update and, according to the blog post, players will be able to take full advantage of these new features with a Command Battlecruiser.
Having begun last Thursday, February 5th, Star Trek Online’s Dilithium Ore Event runs through February 12th, giving players the chance to earn bonus ore by completing specific in-game content.
Perfect World and Cryptic Studios are ready to give players some reasons to celebrate Star Trek Online’s fifth anniversary. The annual anniversary event kicks off today and runs through February 26th and will feature a new story line that features Garrett Wang (Harry Kim) and Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar). Also coming with today’s update is an improved Romulan story arc and updates to the bridge officer training system.
A new developer diary has appeared on the Star Trek Online site that lays out the details about the newly overhauled Q’s Winter Wonderland. Rather than use a conventional map style (aka tower defense, etc.), the team opted to open up the gameplay experience in several key ways to enhance players’ fun during the annual event.
