Option selects are some of the most powerful emergent tools in any fighting game. By abusing how a game’s command interpreter works, these allow a player to do one input that results in one of two options, depending on their opponent’s actions — in turn taking out the need to guess or read their opponent. Now, one such option select has seemingly been discovered for Urien in Street Fighter V. The option select in question allows him to easily deal with V-Reversals — one of the game’s most powerful defensive tools.
In a recent tweet, PR3DA shows how to do this option select. Here, they input standing fierce punch right before immediately holding down-back. Once the standing fierce is blocked or down has been charged long enough, they immediately input up-back and kick to perform Urien’s Violence Knee Drop.
Now, depending on what the opponent does, one of two things will happen. If the opponent simply blocks, the Violence Knee Drop will not come out. However, if they do a V-Reversal, said move will come out and punish it. Additionally, the move will also not come out if the initial standing fierce hits, allowing the player to continue with a combo.
This new option select should work well against characters whose V-Reversals immediately attack their opponents. However, it may leave Urien open to punishment against side switching V-Reversals, such as those of Rashid and Nash.
