VesperArcade discusses how to make Zangief the “Red Cyclone” once again in Street Fighter V

The Red Cyclone became more like the Red Breeze in Season 3 of Street Fighter V. Zangief — once a formidable opponent for many in the game — proved to be far less strong since the patch, and with many of his most notorious players — Itabashi Zangief, and Brutus, and others — abandoning ship, you could tell there were problems in Mother Russia.

VesperArcade recently discussed the issues that caused the character to go downhill after his strongest version. Most notably, they decided that several of his nerfs need to be revoked, and named especially at his mid-kick parry move as something that needed to become more useful in Season 4.

The round of Street Fighter V that shook Kumite to the core!

As an invitational for many of the absolute best Street Fighter V players in the game today, Red Bull Kumite 2018 was a near-constant highlight reel of impressive plays and clutch moments. One that stood out exceptionally was Daigo Umehara’s impressive comeback against Problem X in Losers Finals — it needs to be seen to be believed:

Watch Red Bull Kumite 2018 from redbullesports on www.twitch.tv

The mental fortitude of both players in incredible in this round, and the fact that Umehara’s comeback is not won with a built-in mechanic such as V-Trigger activation (or even a Critical Art), but is instead hard-fought inch by inch, is what makes it so noteworthy in this game of “robbery” comebacks. FGC clipper extraordinaire HiFight has shared a version that highlights some of the frame states and decision-making at work in this epic round:

Even though Umehara lost the set (Problem X went on to face Fujimura in Grand Finals) this round will be remembered. If you missed Red Bull Kumite live, you’ll want to go check out the archive on Twitch for literally hours of the highest-caliber SFV play out there.

Cinemassacre reviews the ill-fated video game movie Mortal Kombat: Annihilation

James Rolfe — famous for his Angry Video Game Nerd persona — has begun to delve into retro movie reviews, which he has dubbed “Rental Reviews,” as a throwback to video rental stores from the 1990s. As such, he couldn’t help to turn his sights on one of the worst video game-inspired movies, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

While his review of the first Mortal Kombat movie was far more positive, this group interview focuses on how far off-base the sequel became. With cheesy special effects, bad one-liners, and horrible camera shots, if you were ever curious about this film, skip it to watch this review instead.

Know your weapon arts for SoulCalibur VI’s Azwel — even if you aren’t playing as him

Azwel is an overwhelming force when you first encounter him — and, it turns out, when you first try to play as him. SoulCalibur VI‘s weapon summoner has a unique check to his wide array of magic melee attacks — he’s penalized with an additional 8 frames of startup if he tries to use a new weapon out of the blue.

As sikshot gaming explains in his latest tutorial video, this is a critical bit of information for both player and foe to keep track of when Azwel is on the screen — particularly when it comes to how airtight his pressure is after certain moves.
