BornFree gets Sako’s opinion on Menat, Sagat, and G in Street Fighter V, and the importance of keeping the fun in fighting games

“G is not necessarily strong… but interesting.”

Sako is well-known as a Street Fighter execution monster and longtime top player — and his Menat is turning heads and winning Capcom Pro Tour events this season. His technical approach and understanding of Street Fighter V makes his outlook something worth listening to — so BornFree asked him what he thinks of the last two DLC fighters of Season 3, Sagat and G.

The verdict? Sagat is pretty weak compared to the rest of the roster, while G falls somewhere in the middle — not overpowered, but with an interesting design. He offers the opinion that even Nash — the other character Sagat player Bonchan has become known for in SFV — is better than poor Sagat.

But that’s only a snippet of BornFree’s full video interview with Sako, which you can see below. They also discuss what Sako loves about Menat (and his fear she’ll get nerfed), his drive to find new combos, and his outlook on training and competition. And the SFV player he fears the most right now is Fuudo!

Maximize your Presidentiality in Street Fighter V with this V-Trigger guide for G from VesperArcade

VesperArcade continues to explore the powers that Gaia has granted the President of the Earth in this V-Trigger guide for G in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. There are combos here for both beginners and experienced campaigners, utilizing both of G’s V-Trigger options: the Maximum President (VTI) that immediately boosts him to maximum Presidentiality and adds a projectile element to his G Barrier, and Dangerous President (VTII) that gives G a nasty uppercut and a nastier armored grab — but V-Trigger II combos require you to be more aware of your Presidentiality level, as VTII doesn’t boost it. Will you shake hands with the President?

Now that Dragunov’s D+2 has completely changed, so has the mixup situation surrounding it. Nerobianco helps break down how to think about one of Drag’s most common moves.

Claudio’s wall bounce may have some of the most damage potential in the game, if you’re willing to learn some ridiculous combos like these from ApocryphicV for it.

CPT Japan Premier 2018 Street Fighter V highlight reel shows off Tokido’s awareness, Nemo’s powerful handshake

If you’re a fan of Tokido (and, I have to assume that on this site, that’s more than a couple of you) then you likely enjoyed the Capcom Pro Tour Japan Premiere 2018. In a tournament that could’ve been remembered for the meme worthy hijinks of Nemo both in and out of the game, it’s Tokido’s continued dominance that ruled the bracket — and today’s highlight reel from Capcom Fighters.

New ARIKA clip teases Fighting EX Layer for Steam

ARIKA, the company of masterclass trolls that they are, revealed their plans to release their indie fighter Fighting EX Layer onto the Steam platform in a short clip today.

This is big news for a lot of reasons, not the least of which because ARIKA was adamant that there would be no focus on the Steam version unless FEXL did well enough monetarily on PlayStation 4. That we’re getting this tease fairly early into the game’s lifespan is a good sign for how well ARIKA is doing, to say the least.

Skullomania from Fighting EX Layer will be taking a guest fighter spot in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy

A different kind of Skullo Dream…

Terry Bogard isn’t the only fighter being gender-bent into SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy; SNK has just revealed a new guest fighter will be crossing over (in more ways than one) to their tag-team title: Skullomania from ARIKA’s Fighting EX Layer!

This female version of Skullomania is a bit of a shared crossover with ARIKA, who has taken the original version of Terry Bogard into their own fighting game as a guest character as well. We can expect to see this new take on the skeletal superhero fight for her own Skullo Dream in SNK’s game sometime in mid-October.

Dragon Ball FighterZ arrives on the Switch very soon!

Bandai Namco has dropped a new trailer to herald the imminent arrival of Dragon Ball FighterZ on Nintendo Switch on September 28th. This latest trailer highlights the game’s portability and different play configurations on Nintendo’s mobile console — as well as the game’s appeal to cat lovers and fans of the God of Destruction.

For the rest of us on prior platforms, the latest DLC characters Cooler and Android 17 are now available to unlock at last, so check your Dragon Ball FighterZ game pages on your respective shop services.

Final Showdown explores all kinds of team combos in his latest Dragon Ball FighterZ video

Most of Final Shodown’s Dragon Ball FighterZ videos for the past few months have been focused mostly on single characters, exploring the damage outputs he could get out of them alone. His latest combo video however does the opposite of that, focusing on tag teams.

The video below is actually his second “Extreme Tag Team” combo video. It focuses on various crazy, stylish, and just plain old damaging combos that can be done with specific teams in Dragon Ball FighterZ. This includes stuff that’s been enabled thanks to the most recent balance changes and new characters. Check it out below.

Shovel Knight digs his way into Brawlhalla as a character skin, along with the other Knights

A big shovel goes a long way.

Indie darling Shovel Knight has dug deep into fighting game guest appearances: he’s a playable fighter in Nicalis’ Blade Strangers, he’s joined the cast of Rivals of Aether, and he’s even an Assist Trophy in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. And he’s not quite done. Blue Mammoth Games has revealed the Knight is also joining their platform fighter Brawlhalla. — in a fashion.

Shovel Knight will be an alternate skin for an existing character — and so will his fellow Knights from his Shovel Knight source material: Black Knight, Plague Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight will all also be available as character skins. The developers discuss details — including which skin will match up to which Brawlhalla fighter — in the video above.
