Sakura mains: Be wary of the hitbox gaps in the Shouoken uppercut in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

The hitbox data on Sakura’s trademark uppercut attack can leave the fighter vulnerable — if used improperly.

Sakura has had a mixed reception in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition — she’s considered by many to be an inferior iteration of the fighter to her prior versions, but she still has her dedicated fans in SFV. Determined Sakura mains and her opponents alike will want to take note of an interesting property of her iconic Shouoken Dragon Punch variation in SFV.

In the video below, alb3530 uses a hitbox viewer to demonstrate that all versions of the Shouoken — including EX and VTII-powered ones — have “gaps” in their hitboxes at points during the attack’s progression. Is this a threat to Sakura? Well… sort of.

As the video shows, the gaps are so brief that only in very specific circumstances is Sakura herself at risk of being hit during the Shouoken. If you’re using Shouoken as a combo finisher you’ll have no problems — but if you throw it out cold in neutral, you might run into a trade, if you’re unlucky. If you’ve seen worse instances of mid-Shouoken punishes, let us know in the comments!

VesperArcade explores G Impact, G Charge, and some tricky mix-ups for G in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

VesperArcade offers some resources to help players taking on the Man of Mystery.

The President of the World bursts into Street Fighter V with an unusual but effective moveset, making G a force to be reckoned with! VesperArcade has been exploring the capabilities of the most recent additions to the SFV roster, and there are multiple videos of interest to those that want to tap into the power of Gaia.

It’s vital to have a good handle on G’s Presidentiality system, and how to use G Charge to keep your Presidentiality level as high as needed:

If you’ve made some headway into G basics, you might want to start adding these mix-ups into your game plan:

Finally, here’s a closer look at what may well be one of the best command grabs in Street Fighter V: G Impact. Its range and follow-up options make this a throw to be feared, certainly. It can even be canceled into from blocked normals to punish V-Reversals or armored moves. But, it has a very slow startup compared to many other command grabs, and has very long recovery on whiff, making it a risky move if used recklessly! If you’re facing off against the World President, pay attention to the counter-strategies later in the video.

Anna Williams and Lei Wulong day one roundup for Tekken 7: Haha step, Anna basics, Rage Drive confirms, and more!

Well, you asked Harada (despite his insistence that you don’t) and now you have it — Anna and Lei have arrived in Tekken 7. Let’s see what the FGC has put together for these two legacy characters on day one:

Let’s start out with Lei Wulong, Tekken’s world champion at having a million stances. “What do those stances do, exactly?” you may ask, as a newcomer. They mix you up ’til you die, that’s what they do! MELOO shows off some basic combos and gives a taste of the type of mix-up potential Lei brings:

Lei’s Haha step is back. Enjoy.

Lei comes equipped with several Rage Drives and we’ll likely see real development with the character as they are explored. On day one, though, it’s likely no surprise that the first RD tech we see involves combo extension — and half life off a basic launcher certainly isn’t bad for a RD.

I try very hard to only post tech that you can learn from, but I’m going to close out the Lei section with Anakin’s day one Lei only because I’m certain you won’t see this interaction again anytime soon — and you need to.

Anna Williams brings her “Chaos Judgement” stance back to Tekken 7! This state is central to her game-play and combos, so get used to seeing it if you’re new to her.

WonDa GAME starts us off with some basic combos. No one will accuse Anna of not dealing enough damage in this game:

When Anna players get thier execution down, this girl is going to be a comeback nightmare. Rage Drive and execution allow her to break triple digits in open field!

Not only do you get guaranteed Rage Drive after landing CH df+1+2, you can be quite cheeky with your followup, as Androktasai shows.

Do you have Anna or Lei tech you want to share with the world? Send it to us here at SRK!

Eliza has a new glitch in Tekken 7’s latest patch that makes her super unblockable

Uh oh. It’s starting to look like Season 2 Eliza unlocked an ancient, forbidden evil — breaking the way her super works in-game!

In Season 1, Eliza’s “Bloody Horn” super had a glitch where it could be used without having the meter for it, allowing her to have what was essentially infinite super meter. This was banned at Evo 2017 and patched out relatively quickly afterwards. Unfortunately, with Season 2 out, the seal on Eliza’s power apparently broke — as did her super, which now becomes unblockable when done after a blocked ff+4,2.

It’s unclear why this keeps happening to Eliza’s super. Just like before, we expect a swift patch will be issued by Namco in response sometime in the future.

SonicFox’s fursuit makes a guest appearance in arcade indie game Ninjin: Clash of Carrots

It’s not every day that we see fighting game personalities make guest appearances outside their genre. If anyone were to bet on which player would cross over like that, Echo Fox|SonicFox is a safe choice. A new indie gameNinjin: Clash of Carrots is celebrating the hugely successful competitor by placing his trademark blue fursuit as selectable apparel.

The action title stars either a ninja fox or a ninja rabbit on a vengeful quest to retrieve rabbits. Gameplay resembles an endless runner a bit (but this isn’t a mobile game!), but it’s actually a beat ’em up: dodge danger and hack ‘n’ slash through hordes of enemies, drawing on fairly deep customization that has over 150 items. The weapons aren’t just skins, as they have variable lengths, strength, and critical hit chance. There’s also an “Oni TV Show” Survivor Mode as well as Story Mode. Both can be tackled solo or with a friend in cooperative mode (local or online).

A Modus Games employee posted footage of the SonicFox fursuit in action:

For a complete trailer of the game, check out the video below that showcases the PlayStation 4 version:

You can find the title on all the major gaming platforms: PlayStation 4, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

History Behind the Warrior delves into the life and undeath of the dread pirate Cervantes

One of the characters inadvertently revealed for SoulCalibur VI at Melbourne Esports Open was none other than Cervantes de Leon. The dread pirate was (and still is) a fan favorite, and his accidental reveal had many longtime fans rejoicing.

While he’s a familiar face to SoulCalibur veterans, some of those who may not have followed the series may wonder just Cervantes is such an important character. That and more that is covered in this latest episode of History Behind the Warrior.

The video below covers Cervantes history within the series, starting as the main antagonist of the original Soul Edge (Soul Blade in the USA), and talks about why he remains a continuing threat — something few other bosses in the series (aside from Nightmare) have been able to do.

SoulCalibur VI drops on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 19, 2018.

Chang breaks free in the latest The King of Fighters XIV combo video from Persona Entertainment

Despite the fact that The King of Fighters is a series known for its long combos — particularly its recent entries — this was never the most recognizable feature of series big man Chang Koehan. This powerful grappler trades long combos for long range, brutal  single hits and, of course, that grab.

Still, that doesn’t mean he can’t pop Max Mode and make you regret getting touched. Persona Entertainment continues their long project of pushing the combo possibilities of every character in The King of Fighters XIV, and as evidenced by the loops and cross-unders above, Chang can be a combo video monster just like any other KOF character.
