Frame Advantage studies the Dark Hadō of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Akuma in “The Lab”

The Frame Advantage crew, made up of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition Pros UM|Tyrant and Method|Packz, are back to dissect whom they believe is the #1 character in the game: the Great Demon, Akuma.

Akuma, option-heavy as he typically is by design, is so strong that he rises above the intentional nerf to the shoto-style that SFV was built around. He’s wildly safe, has one of the game’s best fireballs, and can force incredible pressure with his EX Demon Flip. Today’s episode of “The Lab” explores minute options to simplify specific situations versus Akuma, but as the crew summarizes, beating the demon ultimately boils down to adapting to the player — because there’s little weakness in the demon to take advantage of.

Fighting EX Layer has Kara Throws with ridiculous range

Fighting EX Layer‘s Gougi system allows players to modify core aspects of their character’s strengths. I bring this up because a common Gougi for Grapplers (particularly Darun) is the Thunderbolt Gougi (which allows you to threaten with a command grab from virtually anywhere on the screen via the “teleport” ability) or the Grab Master Gougi (which improves your grab range.)

But if you want improved grab range without having to commit to one of these particular Gougi decks, there’s good news: not only are kara grabs in this game, they are huge. As demonstrated in the video above you can with cancel virtually any normal into special moves on whiff. This allows you to get the extra range from those normals and get longer range command grabs in the process. Considering that you also get extra momentum from dashing in FEXL, you can see the potential every command grab character has, regardless of what Gougi they pick.

Enjoy more SoulCalibur VI gameplay with Ketchup & Mustard’s exclusive footage from Bandai Namco UK

Recently, PND|Ketchup & Mustard were invited to the Bandai Namco Entertainment UK offices in London, England, to record some pre-release gameplay footage of the upcoming SoulCalibur VI. In total, they were able to capture five sets, mostly utilizing characters from the E3 build that they played for the first time. History Behind the Warrior was also on hand to participate.

First up, the Condiment Brothers square off with Ketchup playing Yoshimitsu — whom he would use for the majority of his games, save for a brief switch to Zasalamel, against Mustard’s Taki. We also get to see HBTW pilot Nightmare, Ivy, The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia, and newcomer Grøh.

Though this may not be the absolute highest-level of polished SCVI action we’ve seen, it’s still fantastic to be able to enjoy over an hour of fresh footage with several new characters that haven’t gotten much exposure yet. You can enjoy the full sets of matches below.

SoulCalibur VI will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Friday, October 19th. There will also be an official side tournament at Evo 2018 on Friday, August 3rd. For even more UK footage, check out Silent Joel’s recent matches.

ARIKA to host a special Fighting EX Layer livestream with Street Fighter II creator Akira Nishitani

ARIKA seems to be on a roll with Fighting EX Layer; not only is it a great fighter, but it’s sold well enough that it’s getting its first batch of free DLC characters. With this, some may be wondering what’s on the horizon for this new fighter.

Well, we may get some answers soon. ARIKA will be hosting a special live stream with Daigo Umehara’s BeasTV on July 19 at 8:00 PM JST, or 4:00 AM Pacific. The stream will mark the first official stream from them since the game’s launch, and will feature none other than Street Fighter II creator — and ARIKA co-founder — Akira Nishitani.

As for the contents of the stream: the announcement video for the stream indicates that they’ll be showing off DLC characters Pullum Purna and Vulcano Rosso in-game for the first time.

Fighting EX Layer is now available for purchase on PlayStation 4.

Familiarize yourself with new Siegfried mechanics in this SoulCalibur VI character breakdown

Hayate continues his series of SoulCalibur VI tutorial videos, ahead of its October 19th release. If you’ve been a Siegfried fan from SoulCalibur III, you’re probably quite interested in the nuanced changes of the sword-wielder in the upcoming installment.

Along with Pantocrator, Hayate first goes over Siegfried’s changes. Classified as a mid-range zoning character with stances, he retains most of his old moves, with the exception of 9K,9B, and 22B, which were quicker jump moves and an attack that weaved into stance. His trademark moves, like the 3B attack and A+B in all stances.

He has learned some new tricks, notably 6A+B, which sometimes activates “Dark Legacy” mode, a new mechanic. You may have noticed Siegfried sometimes glows with blue flame, especially when his health is low, as if he had Soul Charge active. Dark Legacy improves some moves, making them able to Lethal Hit, but there might be more to this. Siegfried can “spend” Dark Legacy mode on an explosion attack, just like Nightmare’s.

Check out the explanatory video below, and if you’re yearning for some great gameplay footage of Siegfried, look to the CEO 2018 SoulCalibur VI exhibition.

If Siegfried is too old-school for you, turn to Hayate’s informative SoulCalibur VI Grøh breakdown.

Konami is releasing their own Shonen Jump platform fighting game: Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadium

It seems that Bandai Namco’s Jump Force isn’t the only Shonen Jump fighting game in development. Konami has released details of their own fighter based on the storied manga publication.

Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadium is a four-player mobile platform fighter that presents characters from multiple Shonen Jump franchises as super-deformed “Janjan Characters” from Konami. The game will feature characters from 39 Shonen Jump titles such as Dragon Ball Z, One PieceDr. SlumpHunter X Hunter, and My Hero Academia when it launches on iOS and Android later this year. In addition to this, characters and franchises are planned to be added sequentially after release.

Being a mobile game, Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadium uses a simplified control scheme that allows players to pull off special moves (SP moves) with only one button.

More info about the game is set to be released on both Shonen Jump and V-Jump magazines  in the future. In the meantime, check out the trailer and some screenshots.
