That’s Reynald’s simple reply to the question “When you decided you wanted to get good, what did you do?” Within that answer is both a reflection of his roots and his boiled down approach to fighting games — and it’s just one of the nuggets of wisdom dispensed in his latest interview with BornFree.
Reynald, a former The King of Fighters XIII Evo Champ and multi-game specialist, shares his thoughts on training, player reading, and his constantly evolving DBFZ team.

In addition to his Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament performances, where he really cemented his name in FGC history with his now infamous Firebrand/Super Skrull/Dr. Doom team, he has had placings in the BlazBlue series, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the Under Night In-Birth series, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and the first two seasons of Street Fighter V.
Now, he’s furthering his fighting game credentials in Dragon Ball FighterZ, with his unique team that is comprised of Piccolo/Tien/Vegeta — and is arguably northern California’s best DBFZ player at the moment. In this interview with BornFree at Combo Breaker 2018, he talks about his gaming origins, how he got his gaming handle, his training regime, thoughts on DBFZ’s mechanics and team composition, and many other general topics as is the norm with BornFree. It’s been a little while since we’ve had a character announcement for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, now we have yet another character joining the game — Luong. The sultry Vietnamese fighter was revealed thanks to a leaked trailer that was originally shared on Ruliweb.
The trailer — which has since been pulled — see’s Luong dressing up both in a spy catsuit and a (rather ironic) schoolgirl outfit, while also showing off her moves and customization items. More interesting though is the fact that the trailer indicates that she was to be the 12th character to be announced — there are currently only 10 announced characters so far, so this means that someone else was supposed to have been revealed before her.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is set to launch on PlayStation 4, and Switch in Japan on September 6, and the West on September 7.
When it comes to streaming, both at home and at events, one of the companies that many content producers rely on is AVerMedia. Their line of Live Gamer and Live Gamer Portable capture cards are some of the most-used out there.
The company has now announced a new series of capture cards designed to work with 4K, ultra HD resolutions. The first of these is the Live Gamer 4K. This internal, PCIe capture card can capture 4K (2160p) high dynamic range video at 60fps. In addition to this, it can also capture lower resolutions at even higher framerates, up to 240fps at 1080p.
For those who need an external capture card, the company has also revealed the Live Gamer Ultra. This capture card connects to a laptop or computer via USB 3.1 and can capture 4K high dynamic range video at up to 30fps. Like the Live Gamer 4K, it can also capture higher framerate video at lower resolutions (again, topping at 240fps at 1080p). In addition to this, the card also offers full 4K HDR passthrough at 60fps, and HD 1080p passthrough at 240fps.
Both will come with AVerMedia’s RECentral software that allows for simultaneous streaming to Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer, as well as CyberLink’s PowerDirector 15 4K video editing software. For those interested, both of these cards are set to ship on June 25. The Live Gamer 4K will retail for $299.99, while the Live Gamer Ultra will retail for $249.99.

That’s only because this boxer is built differently from the rest of the cast, and giving him a a standard punishment game would probably break him as a character. Instead, Steve can weave around his opponent’s options, making him a proper threat in the hands of those with very good defense.
Because of his unique nature, it’s especially important to know how to properly punish odd characters like Noctis, whose push-out and gimmicks fit the mold of Tekken even less than Steve’s abilities do. What more needs to be said that hasn’t already been said about the Street Fighter series? Regardless of what anyone thinks about the current status of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Capcom’s legendary fighting game series has left a huge impact — not just in the fighting game genre but gaming in general, both casually and competitively, on a worldwide scale — for over 30 years. The Street Fighter brand has become even more of a household name in the mainstream, where some random passersby might catch a major tournament being aired on ESPN or TBS at their local bar. Street Fighter and its community are gaining more positive exposure, growth, and acceptance in the general public by the day, and that’s a good thing.
The Street Fighter YouTube channel has uploaded a three-part documentary series covering the history, community growth, and the next generation of new players of this perennial franchise. Footage from past tournaments as well as numerous interviews with pro players, commentators, personalities, and fans are shown here, and inform the viewers about the mark the Street Fighter series has left on them — as well as what the future holds for it. Hi-Rez Studios has announced that its take on the battle royale genre, Realm Royale, has now arrived on Steam in Early Access. The standalone game is based on the Paladins IP. Squads of 4 players are dropped onto a large map packed with resources to build with and even mounts to ride. There is no purchase required and anyone can join in the fun without the need for a key.
It’s that time at last, folks. Whether you wanted to the Japanese copy of the game (released last week) or have faithfully awaited the English version, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is now playable on your chosen device (PlayStation 4, Steam, or Nintendo Switch). With that, the Arc System Works America YouTube channel posted a special launch trailer that shows off the game and features producer Toshimichi Mori.
Mori appears at the beginning, playing the game in the background, and he addresses the fans about wanting to “show the world how interesting fighting games can be.” He believes the game to have the right combination of depth for enthusiasts and accessibility for newcomers, but above all, he wants it to be a fun experience.
The actual trailer starts two minutes in, and it’s an energetic montage that shows off gameplay and the cast in action with English voices. We see all the characters in action (even the not-yet-release team RWBY member, Yang) and get a brief overview of the modes available in the game.
