Tekken 7’s juggle scaling broke on the Forgotten Realm stage in recent version 1.10 patch

No good deed goes unpunished.

As you may know, the Tekken 7 team was finally able to implement a fix to the Unreal Engine bug that caused an insufferable amount of input lag on PS4. That fix was the Version 1.10 patch that was just recently pushed out. But as any programmer may tell you: when one bug gets squashed, another can pop up in its place.

The Forgotten Realm stage was always a stage where combo damage increased exponentially for anyone that knew how to manipulate positioning and floor breaks. But now that the latest patch broke the juggle scaling post floor break, previously impossible combos make Floor Break combos now allow everyone to get much higher damage and better wall carry than before.

Tekken 7’s boundaries are pushed with this multi-character, tool assisted combo exhibition

One of the strongest aspects of Tekken as a series is that there’s incredible feedback when you do something correct. Whether you’re working on your execution in combos, better movement, or just learning more about character match-ups, there’s always a new horizon in this series to experience, despite how difficult it is.

I mention this because usually when you see a combo video, you’re seeing players demonstrating the difficult but attainable aspects of Tekken.

That’s not what this Tool-Assisted combo video shows off. You won’t ever practically land (or perform) four perfectly spaced, perfectly inputted EX Shippukens with Geese in a tournament match, and no one expects you too. Nearly everything shown off in this great video is an exploit of the system not possible by human hands, or so and specific as to be impractical. If it’s anything at all, it’s an entertaining example of why it’s probably for the best that Tekken is, and remains, a difficult game.

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” runs Fight’s History Dynamite: Karnov’s Revenge tournament

The “Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” festivities continue! SSFC2017 is the currently-ongoing Japanese tournament series at Mikado Arcade that pays tribute to older — and often obscure — fighting games. If you missed the first few tournaments from SSFC2017, don’t sweat it!

For the uninitiated, Fighter’s History is an old school, footsie-heavy 2D fighting game made by the now-defunct Data East. The sequel, subtitled Karnov’s Revenge after Data East’s odd mascot, is the much beloved – and most competitive – entry in this series. Believe it or not, its cult following was so strong that the game found re-release recently on major consoles.

As always, you can follow along Mikado’s upload schedule on YouTube, or try to catch them live on their UStream.

See Hit, Beerus and Goku Black in action with this Jump Festa trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ

With Jump Festa currently going on in Japan, Bandai Namco have finally released the long-awaited fourth Dragon Ball FighterZ trailer. Along with showing gameplay of Hit, Beerus and Goku Black, this action-packed trailer shows off some of the ‘Dramatic Productions’ that were teased in this week’s V-Jump.

Let’s tackle the new characters first. Hit is the close-combat specialist of the trio, using his Time Skip to close the gap against his opponents. He has a special counter move, which allows him to soak a single hit before striking back, while his Pure Progress Level 3 super has him freezing his foe in place, before unleashing a barrage of Vital Point Attacks.

As was seen in his screenshots, Goku Black can call upon Zamasu to help with certain attacks. Not only does the evil Kaioshin restrain enemies for certain specials, he assists Goku Black in charging up specific Ki attacks. This trailer unfortunately doesn’t reveal much else about Black’s play-style, besides the fact he has a divekick which has him kicking the opponent into the ground and using their body like a surfboard.

Beerus looks to be the trickiest of the three recently revealed characters — which makes sense, what with him being Universe 7’s God of Destruction. Along with his Sphere of Destruction super, Beerus can summon smaller Cataclysmic Orbs which he can actually kick towards his opponent. I can already foresee some evil Beerus setplay, with players creating a Cataclysmic Orb minefield on screen.

Recreating select scenes from the anime, Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Dramatic Productions can happen at both the beginning and the end of a match, depending on the character match-up. The very first one in the trailer recreated Goku going Super Saiyan for the first time, following Freeza’s murder of Krillin. Some of the other Dramatic Productions in the trailer showed Gohan awakening Super Saiyan 2 for the first time, Goku killing Kid Buu with the Super Spirit Bomb, Chiaotzu sacrificing himself to kill Nappa and the ending of Goku’s fight against Beerus from the Battle of Gods movie. It’ll be interesting to see just how many of these Dramatic Productions will be in the full game, and what exactly triggers them.

Elsewhere, this trailer confirms various small things like Piccolo appearing in Gotenks’ Level 3 if he is on your team and the cave where Goku and Beerus fought in the Battle of Gods movie being a stage. The trailer’s end card also promoted the special music pack which adds songs like Cha La Head Cha La, We Gotta Power as well as BGM from the original show into Dragon Ball FighterZ. I wonder if Western fans will be able to get a music pack, featuring the Bruce Falconer music from the Funimation dub.

Eric Jacobus proves he’s “Unpredictabo!” by emulating Geese Howard’s moves in the latest “Real-Life Tekken”

Stuntman, actor and martial artist Eric Jacobus has recently returned to uploading episodes of his “Real-Life Tekken” series, wherein he takes a shot at replicating some of the more practical movesets of fighting game characters — through the usage of various bags and props, as accurately to the source material as possible.

To celebrate the recent release of Geese Howard as a DLC character in Tekken 7, Jacobus looks to emulate SNK’s King of South Town’s expanded 3D moveset as well as he humanly can: obviously without all of the Ki Charging, Reppukens and Raging Storms, with the same attacks being performed by Geese inside the game, played along simultaneously.

Though it may not be as realistic as most arsenals naturally seen in the franchise, Jacobus tackles the challenge with his trademark style and flair, even noting that the sheer impractical nature of the moves is in fact what makes them so interesting to see re-enacted.

“Geese’s style is catered to The King Of Fighters engine, which has all kinds of projectiles and strange attacks that don’t align with any one martial arts style. While some of his kicks could be useful, and a couple of his throws have applications, most of his moves are useless in real life, which makes them look super cool.” He even gets his “Hollywood cat actor,” Skid, in on the action. You can see the full video below.

You can check out some of his previous work, covering Miguel in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Hot Ryu in Street Fighter V, and more.

Daigo Umehara and Tokido face off in high-level… Nidhogg play?

Daigo Umehara and Tokido have long been rivals, and what better way to perpetuate the rivalry by pitting them in an American-developed game they have never seen before?

On a recent charity stream for Extra Life, Tasty Steve and Sajam pitted the Japanese players against each other in the orginal Nidhogg. While not a traditional fighting game, the two were quick to discover tech, and in the matches that unfold we see the two unraveling various intricacies of the game, developing high-level tech and mind games on the fly to get their wins.

Injustice 2’s Atom roundup: Shrink mix-ups, Trait trade glitch, and more!

Injustice 2‘s Atom has been out for a few days now, and he has an interesting mix of aggressive rush-down and light zoning. If you’ve been starved for some tech since our last video round up, here’s some more content straight from the community!

If you were unsure how to make Shrink works, Raptor goes into great detail on how Atom’s trait makes up the bulk of his rushdown.

He also shows off how Atom can low-profile common attacks from opponents.

Strategic Brawler also shows off Atom’s Trait, and how you can make combos safe while during the Trait, and a side switch combo to keep people in the corner after you land a cross-up.

Illxsion is experimenting with corner chemical mix-ups.

redbean demonstrates a which-way vortex with Atom, and how you can control it.

And last but certainly not least, Alexis Lennox accidentally traded with a move during his Trait, and was rewarded with an infinite Trait state. I wonder if this can be recreated practically?

Learn the ways of Tekken 7’s Leo Kilesen in cutcc’s QuickNotes series

cutcc is back with more of his “QuickNotes” series for Tekken 7! This series is designed to lay out the fundamentals of a Tekken character in as compact a video as possible, and today’s character is the powerful Baji Quan practitioner, Leo.

The hard-hitting Leo seems simple on the surface, running a mini-Paul Death Fist/sweep mix-up accompanied by good punishment options and launchers. But beyond the surface level is a world of hyper-evasive stances, frame traps, and exceptionally difficult instant while-rising execution. Leo is a character that truly grows with you, at any point in your Tekken journey.

Iron Tager, Makoto Nanaya, Nu-13, and Es close out this year’s BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle reveals

Earlier this morning, Arc System Works hit us with their 5th character introduction trailer for the upcoming tag-team crossover game, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. While normally only revealing three characters at a time, the team gave us four this time, all from the game’s namesake — a first for their reveal pattern, since they usually incorporate fighters from two to three different series at a time.

Today’s new Entitled are the “Red Devil” of Sector Seven, Iron Tager (who specifically mentions Kokonoe in his introduction), the “Unfaltering Beastkin” Makoto Nanaya, the “Sword of Hades” Nu-13, and — serving as our first addition from Central Fiction — the “Guardian of the Gate,” Es.

Wreaking havoc with fellow grappler Waldstein, Tager retains his ability to magnetize foes (Voltic Battler) as well as his signature Gigantic Tager Driver, Gadget Finger, Spark Bolt — despite lacking the gauge to charge it — as well as the Genesic Emerald Tager Buster. It will certainly be interesting to see if he retains his traditional 360 and 720 degree inputs in this more simplified Battle System. Retaining her usual close-combat style, Nanaya still packs her Corona Upper and Meteor Dive, along with her Shooting Star and Particle Flare Distortion Skill.

BlazBlues yandere Murakumo Unit has finally arrived, and can finally realize her dream of teaming together with Ragna, even if she doesn’t seem to fully understand the concept. Boasting her Sword Summons — despite the lack of Drives — Luminous Slave returns from CF, and she may serve to torment Gordeau as much as Hilda. Reiterating that this event is one of the “possibilities,” Es retains most of her shoto-like qualities, and seems to even have her Crest Arts fully integrated into her specials.

This brings the roster count up to 20 characters. You can see the full trailer below:

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will be released sometime in 2018 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. With Evo Japan, the 2017 Arc System Works Fighting Games Awards and RTX Sydney all coming up, there could be a lot to look forward to early next year as the time to intersect draws further nigh.
