Punch through brick walls with this Paul Phoenix combo guide for Tekken 7

Before Bob came along in Tekken 6, Paul had been the resident American karate man since the beginning of the Tekken franchise. Though there is certainly room on the roster for two USA users of hybrid martial arts, Paul’s straightforward, powerhouse approach certainly earned him his longevity in the 3D fighting game series.

HurtboxTV’s combo guide for Paul Phoenix in Tekken 7 shows us that there is more to playing him than just landing heavy blows, though that is most of what you’d be doing as a Paul main. You don’t need a lot of hits to pull most of the strings in this video, but you will need to keep a forward dash at the ready as Paul’s hard knocks tend to send the opponent flying more often than not.

Check out the guide below to add these essential Paul Combos to your Tekken 7 repotoire, and find more of HurtboxTV’s combo guides here.

See the entire cast’s Level 3 Hypers in the Gamescom build of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite with footage from UM Tyrant

As we’ve previously reported, Unequalled Media’s Tyrant was recently invited to the offices of Capcom UK to try out the Gamescom build of the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. After recently providing us a healthy amount of gameplay footage involving several under-used characters, his next upload focuses on showcasing the entire cast’s Level 3 Hyper Combos, starting with the Marvel side before moving on to Capcom.

While the returning veterans (and Jedah, who utilizes his Provia=Di=Servo from Darkstalkers 3) retain the same Hypers from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, characters like Nova, Frank West and Spencer have finally been given Level 3s, as this is a luxury that is now afforded to the entire cast. Spencer’s Level 3 even serves as a reference to how he finished off Groeder in the Bionic Commnado reboot, by shoving a stick grenade in his foe’s mouth before zipping away while they explode. Keep in mind that this is still an unfinished build of a game in development, so some of these animations could see some slight tweaks before release.

Which of these Level 3 Hypers was your favorite? Did you prefer the reimagining of classic attacks from the veterans, or the new attacks afforded to the newcomers, Frank, Nova and Spencer? Let us know in the comments.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is scheduled for a September 19th release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in North America and Europe, with a Japanese release on the same platforms coming on September 21st.

Upgrade your Feng Shui with this V-Trigger combo guide for Juri in Street Fighter V

Juri’s V-Trigger runs on a meter that depletes with every attack executed; JusticeSoulTuna has made a great video that shows you how to circumvent the scale to get the most out of Juri’s V-Trigger combos in Street Fighter V. The trick, JST explains, is to make the starting attack of the combo the most powerful one, rather than racking up a high number of hits, since the aim is to make the meter last as long as possible.

The combos are performed with attack and damage data on screen for you to observe, and a walkthrough is provided via more on-screen text. Check out the video below and check out more of JusticeSoulTuna’s Juri tech tutorials.

Double trouble: Hellpockets and Bandai Namco breakdown Android 18’s special moves in Dragon Ball FighterZ

In the midst of the mounting hype surrounding the arrival of the androids in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Bandai Namco has released a breakdown video for the atomic blonde Android 18. The video features GameGoons and Super Delayed Radio personality Hellpockets, who lends a hand in explaining an important aspect of 18’s playstyle.

As many are sure to have realized by now, Android 17 isn’t officially a playable character in Dragon Ball Fighter Z. Instead he acts as sort of a partner-in-crime for Android 18 and is brought out on screen to deliver her special moves. Since specials are obviously a crucial part of any fighting game, it’s not exactly like 18 is the main character and 17 is her accessory. It’s more like you get two androids for the price of one, with the duo displaying the high-powered, ill-willed teamwork that made them popular in the anime and manga series.

Hellpockets explains it in more detail in the video below, and if you find it helpful, you should check out Bandai Namco’s Piccolo breakdown featuring Rhymestyle.

Listen to Menat’s mystical Street Fighter V theme while you wait for her to arrive today

You can’t play her yet — but you can get an earful of her theme music.

To keep you stoked for Menat while you wait for the servers to come back up, VesperArcade has uploaded an extended cut of Menat’s theme for Street Fighter V, as featured in her reveal trailer. Not as much of a divergence from the usual as Ed’s or Abigail’s music, Menat’s theme seems to be a soft rock score with a bit of ethereal electronica thrown in:

More more Menat, check out her V-System and costumes, her move list, and VesperArcade’s examination of her normal and special moves from the reveal trailer.

DotEmu celebrates the release of Windjammers on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita with the most ’90s trailer ever conceived

Even the addition of parachute pants and Lisa Frank folders couldn’t make this trailer hit the ’90s kids in the audience any harder. To celebrate Windjammers in all of its epic ’90s glory, the folks at DotEmu put together a trailer marking the release of the title by releasing the most ’90s-inspired trailer possible.

Set in the fashion of an old  infomercial — with all the neon colors and attitude to boot — it even goes so far as to make the netplay options for the game sound completely futuristic. To complete the experience, try listening to some Paula Abdul or Will Smith while you wait for the game to download.

Rising Up: Chun-Li character tutorial — Optimal combos, setups, & frame traps

Street Fighter V Season 2.5 is out, and I’m here with another character tutorial. I’m putting emphasis on characters whose combo options changed significantly between the updates, so today’s video is the Kung-Fu cop and series veteran Chun-Li. This video contains all of her bread and butter punishes and confirms, counter-hit setups and damage optimization, tools against fireballs, frame traps listed by delay, meaty pressure, setups, and more. If you want to learn Chun-Li, everything you need to know should be right here.

My initial Chun-Li bread and butter video was one of my first for Street Fighter V, made using footage recorded from my time in the 3rd beta test. What’s more, Chun-Li is one of the most changed SFV characters since launch, as she was seen as overpowered in the first season and perhaps underpowered in the second, and has received many balance patches that actually affect her gameplay and goals rather than simply her damage. This new character guide should be up to date for every optimal and practical Chun-Li combo as of season 2.5, and includes everything I initially missed, plus many advanced combo routes other players have unearthed. As usual, I’ve included an enormous guide in the video description. This video is intended as a supplement to that guide, so make sure to check it out.

Currently I’m trying to release one of these tutorials every other week, until I’ve covered all characters. I originally intend to do the characters in order of most to least popular, however as I said, I do want to prioritize characters who were heavily affected by Season 2 and Season 2.5 balance adjustments. Remember to subscribe to the Shoryuken channel, and keep an eye out for future videos!

Looking for some retro fighters? Sega Lord X breaks down the best and worst fighting games of the Sega CD

The Sega CD (or Mega CD for our non-American readers) was one of the first CD-based systems on the market, beaten to the punch by only the TurboGrafx CD and the Phillips CD-i. With the technology in its infancy, most developers didn’t quite know what to do with the format, and decided to just port some of their popular games over — with a mixed bag of results.

Thus, it’s only natural that a few fighters found their way onto the platform, both old and new. Sega Lord X took it upon himself to catalog all the fighters on the system that he could find, and showcase the best and the worst. With bad fighters like Brutal Paws of Fury making the list, he does note a couple of standouts in the port of Mortal Kombat, as well as the sequel to Eternal Champions for the Sega Genesis. This video is definitely worth the watch if you’re a collector looking to expand your fighting game library — or just want a history lesson in the genre.
