Check out Sabrewulf’s Ultimate in Killer Instinct Season 3

With another week passing by, the countdown to the release of the free Ultimates Monster Pack for Killer Instinct on August 22nd continues. As usual, the Killer Instinct YouTube channel has uploaded another of the Ultimates set to be released to all players later this month. After taking a look at Aganos’s and Mira’s the last two weeks, the spotlight now falls upon Sabrewulf.

Seemingly losing control and giving into his feral impulses, Sabrewulf pounces on his opponent, assaulting them with a series of slashes — similar to Wolverine’s Berserker Barrage X in the Marvel vs. Capcom series — slaughtering his foe before savagely glaring at the screen, as his victim’s lifeless body lies behind him. You can see the Ultimate for yourself below.

Be on the lookout over the next two weeks for the Ultimates for Hisako and Glacius. What are your thoughts on this Ultimate? Do you think it’s fitting for Sabrewulf? Let us know in the comments.

Killer Instinct is currently available for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, with details on a future Steam release forthcoming.

ARMS datamining reveals removed stage, new minigame, and hints of future DLC characters

Prior to the release of its latest fighting game, ARMS, Nintendo announced that all future DLC would be free. In response, dataminers GoldFlame and Eizak have picked through ARMS’ files to see what the future may hold for Nintendo’s DLC plans.

What they uncovered are references to a scrapped stage called “Crank,” a fully modeled-out and unused minigame called “Sighting,” and a series of parameter files for characters in the game. Many of the files present reference the weapons or themes of currently existing characters… but not all of them.

  • Chain
  • Coil
  • Plant
  • Robo
  • Scroll
  • Sumo
  • Surprise
  • Sweet
  • Twintale

While it’s possible some of these are simply older models of existing characters (Twintale, Coil, Robo) others in this list have no correlation to any currently existing character (Sweet, Plant, Surprise).

The files referenced don’t point to data that exists on the disc, so we don’t know much else beyond this. You can find more information on the methodology used to discover this data in the source link below, and in the interview video above with Eizak.

Morrigan just can’t stop with this non-TAC infinite combo in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

While Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3‘s Morrigan is known to be very strong due to her soul-crushing fireball trap game, she actually has so much more potential than this. In the hands of a dedicated player, she also has some impressive combos. One such combo is this corner infinite demonstrated by Rokmode.

The combo below is actually a variation of her older corner Shell Kick infinite combo. Like the old combos, this one uses utilizes the fact that her medium Shadow Blade isn’t affected by hitstun deterioration, canceling the first 2 hits into flight mode to let her land her Shell Kick. The difference here is that this variation can be confirmed from the air — previous versions needed to be done from the ground.

While this does make the infinite easier to set up, the combo itself is still pretty hard to do consistently. At such a late stage in the game’s development life, it’s hard to see if this will ever become a staple in Morrigan’s arsenal. At the very least, players can breathe easy that Morrigan players never further developed this earlier in the game’s life. As noted player Daniel “PZPoy” Benitez stated on Reddit “I’m so glad Morrigan players were too lazy to learn this the last 5 years.”

Leaked video may hint at Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s future in esports

Ever since it was announced last December, many players have been wondering if Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite would be getting the same kind of competitive esports support that Capcom’s other fighting game, Street Fighter V, has received. Now, a video that may give us the answer to this question has been making the rounds on sites such as Reddit, GameFAQs, and even our own forums.

The video in question seems to be a marketing deck meant for investors, shareholders, sponsors, and business partners. However, for some reason it was posted online and made public. The account itself used for the video uses the name of John Diamonon, who many may know as Capcom’s Senior Director of Licensing & Esports. However, we’re unable to verify if the account is actually his.

What’s more interesting however is the content of the video. Specifically, it seems to detail Capcom’s esports plans for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for both this year and the next. For this year, the plan involves online qualifiers for 14 players, followed by 2 extra slots. One of these is for a last chance qualifier at Capcom Cup. The other, however, is for a player who will receive a special invite after winning a special one-off tournament. No details of this one off tournament have been given other than it will be “highly publicized and televised.” This may indicate something similar to TBS’s ELEAGUE for Street Fighter V.

As for next year, the plan seems to be to create an annual esports league around Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite using the same structure as the Capcom Pro Tour. This league will allow players to qualify for Capcom Cup via Evo, premier events, and online events throughout the world. In addition to this, the video also mentions qualifying via standalone events, mentioning partners such as Red Bull, Turner Sports, and ESL.

As part of this tour, Capcom is supposedly aiming to raise about $600,000 in prize money. While some of this will come from the sale of DLC — similar to Street Fighter V — it seems that they’re looking to raise a significant part of this, as well as the overall funding needed to run the tour, via sponsorships.

The rest of the video is dedicated to further number-crunching, including how much it’ll actually take to run the tour, and how much profit is expected to be made, based on their previous experience with the Capcom Pro Tour.

[The video was, unsurprisingly, deleted shortly after it went public — but can still be viewed here via Dropbox, or here via Streamable.]

Editor’s note: Joey Cuellar has posted this clarification regarding Evo references and footage contained in the video:

Mega Man X’s combos look impressive even before Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s release

While we’re still a month and some change away from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s release that hasn’t stopped people from trying to figure out combos. The game’s story demo has been a goldmine of combos for players with enough patience and perseverance to try to set them up.

In the videos below RaYzYrbYrn demonstrates a number of combos for newcomer Mega Man X. Most of the videos below focus on grounded combos using X’s Ice Cutter. Since the move hits both when first tossed out, and again when moving back, it allows X to follow up in a number of ways that eventually end in his Double Charge Shot, Special Weapons Raid, and Armor of Light hyper moves.

In addition to this, RaYzYrBYrn also demonstrates a neat ground confirm string that uses an low air dash cancel string in the middle to extend the combo.

Take note that, since the combos are done on the drones in the Story Demo, they do more damage than they would on a normal character.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite drops on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 19.
