There comes a day when all Paul players must grow up and realize that Death Fist is not enough to carry them in the world of Tekken. If that day has come for you (or the Paul player in your life), LiangHuBBB has an assortment of tricks for the star-spangled warrior for you to try out.
Compiled both from experimentation and by gathering posts from places like TekkenZaibatsu, this video is a handy visual guide to Paul’s toolset. If you wanted to move your Phoenix beyond the Death Fist, this is a great place to start!
Twist your hat back. Persona Entertainment has revisited one of The King of Fighters XIV‘s most popular characters — Terry Bogard — in their latest combo video.
The Fatal Fury main character didn’t change too much in the transition to version 2.00, but the community has pushed the character’s ability further since game launch. As Persona describes, with positioning and late timing Terry can get an impressive amount of stylish damage. Be sure to see their practical (and impractical variation) mid-screen 100% against Athena!
Body Count Fighting is a FGC YouTube channel that has brought us content like the Commander Jesse documentary and the Injustice 2 E3 stream. Pro Street Fighter player Long “LPN” Nguyen stopped by their studio to dispense some beginner-friendly advice to the crew about Street Fighter V and M. Bison.
After a quick (and crushing) victory for LPN, he explains a important virtue for Bison players: patience. On a more technical side, he shows off some of Bison’s basic tools and explains how to improve as a player.
With the closed beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ coming sometime this summer, eager Z-Warriors will be wanting to get the leg up on the competition when it launches. Gathering data from E3 attendees — and thanks to his extensive knowledge of previous Arc System Works games — novriltataki has created a basic DBF tutorial which should tell you everything you need to get started with the fighter.
Along with going over the button layout, novril runs through some DBF-specific mechanics like the Sparking Blast, Super Dashes, and Z-Changes. If you’ve ever played Marvel vs. Capcom 3, you’ll instantly recognize many of these mechanics, so you should take to Dragon Ball FighterZ very quickly.
A little less than two weeks ago, the FGC was graced with a team tournament as a main event: Red Bull Proving Grounds culminated in a 3 vs. 3 regional team tournament. The format turned Street Fighter V into solid team game — with meta developing around who faced who, and coaching on each end of the monitors.
The format, and its reception from the community, now has people wondering if team tournaments should be more prevalent and visible in the community. As such, Kim1234 sought out some of California’s best players, including Circa|LPN, Echo Fox|Julio Fuentes, ROM, and Crackfiend to discuss the potential of the team format. Several positives were attributed to the format, including the fact that competing in a team allows you to relax as a player and learn more.
While an American release date was announced earlier this month, European Gundam fans were left in the lurch as to when they will also be able to join in on the giant robot fighting action. However, Bandai Namco Europe has now revealed that Gundam Versus will release in both Europe and the Americas on September 29th.
Along with this news, Bandai Namco has also released an English version of the trailer which shows off all of the modes mech pilots will be able to play through when Gundam Versus releases. For lone wolf pilots, solo play has:
Free Battle, which allows players to fight against fully customizable CPU opponents
Trial Battle, which has players tackling a 10 mission gauntlet, complete with gigantic boss encounters
Ultimate Battle, where players fend off continuous waves of CPU Gundams (can also be played in multiplayer)
As for multiplayer, Gundam Versus has the following modes:
Casual Match, where pilots can fight in 3v3 skirmishes
Custom Room, where players can set unique rules and create their own Gundam experience
Ranked Match, where pilots will fight against others of the same rank to rise up the world rankings
Forget new characters or new stages — Bandai Namco has announced that the first DLC pack for Tekken 7 will bring back the much-loved Tekken Bowling mini-game. Now named “Ultimate Tekken Bowling,” this mini-game has been completely redone for Tekken 7, complete with HD graphics and some new twists on ten-pin bowling. If you’ve ever want to see Heihachi celebrate after scoring a turkey, now is your chance.
Along with Tekken Bowling, this update will add several new costumes to Tekken 7. I’m hoping for some bowling shirts for Bob, and the ability to dress Akuma up as a giant bowling pin. This DLC will launch sometime in August, with the next two DLC packs adding special guest characters. With Harada recently meeting with Arc System Works, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a Guilty Gear character like Sol Badguy on the roster soon.
There’s a distinct advantage to have a special move with the “counter” property in Pokkén Tournament. For some characters, like Lucario’s Extreme Speed, it gives you an additional panic button. But there’s a more subtle use for these types of moves you may not have considered, as Pokkén pro Allister Singh demonstrates.
Suicune’s Mirror Coat projectile counter can be used to mitigate possible damage when your normal attack strings get countered. The critical property doesn’t apply in counter vs. counter situations, allowing you to take less damage and, sometimes, avoid combos all together.
Kensou returns to The King of Fighters XIV with a large focus on his guard-point specials and zoning projectiles. Though his hit-and-run style makes him more poke-oriented than pressure-heavy, that doesn’t mean he can’t convert into big (and stylish) damage once he touches you.
Brian Kasugano recently explored the possibilities with Kensou’s moveset, and put together some crazy-looking combos. My personal favorite is his early example versus Rock Howard, managing to cross up Rock twice with one move mid-juggle.
Back in April, we reported that the organizers behind Panda X Gaming and Kumite In Tennessee are set to rock the Natural State for the second straight year, with the return of Mid-South Championships 2017.
Produced by Fight Sessions and Merovingian Productions, the event’s official trailer highlights the $2,500 in pot bonuses spread across Street Fighter V, Injustice 2 and Super Smash Bros. Melee (and Wii U) — though Killer Instinct, Tekken 7, Blazblue: Central Fiction, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Project M will also be part of the tournament lineup. Catch the trailer below, and prepare to compete where champions are made — but be warned, some material may be inappropriate for salty players!
Mid-South Championships will be held once again at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, near the Clinton National Airport, in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 9-10. Registration is currently live at smash.gg/msc17, with the venue fee increasing from $20 to $30 on August 1st, before increasing to $40 on-site, so plan your trips quickly! Streaming will be handled by PandaXGaming. For more information, including hotel reservations, visit the Mid-South Championships Facebook page.
