New crossover fighting game Blade Strangers coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4

The Nintendo Switch hasn’t really seen much in terms of traditional, 2D fighting games. With that in mind, Nicalis looks to end the drought with “Blade Strangers.”

Announced over Twitch’s pre-E3 stream, Blade Strangers comes from Studio Saizensen — the team that brought you Sega’s Blade Arcus. Unlike the latter though, Blade Strangers is a crossover fighting game, featuring a number of characters from Japanese indie games such as Cave Story, Code of Princess, as well as the Umihara Kawase series.

Also unlike Blade Arcus, Blade Strangers will use traditional 2D sprites, albeit ones rotoscoped from 3D models. The rotoscoping is done via proprietary technology that they’ve developed, however each sprite is still tweaked by hand where necessary.

The game’s planned features include story mode, mission mode, versus, training, and online versus. Story mode will be like the traditional arcade mode, but will feature character interactions and clashes. There’s also mention of making the game have the easy inputs of a Super Smash Bros. game, but with the speed and complexity of something like Guilty Gear or Street Fighter.

Aside from Nintendo Switch, the game is also set to be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and in arcades as well. For more on the game, check out this footage from the stream, as recorded by Nintendo Everything.

Learn Bedman’s Anti-Airs for Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 from GCYoshi-13

GCYoshi13 has remained a dedicated Bedman player since the beginning of Guilty Gear Xrd. This top 8 finisher at NorCal Regionals 2015 knows his character in and out, and if you want to pick up Rev 2’s creepy sleepy boy, this anti-air explanation video is a great place to start.

Duct Tape Productions delve into the history of Project M’s current number 1, ThundeRzReiGN

If you’ve been following the PM scene recently, you’ll have noticed a certain red gorilla taking first place at many tournaments. Rising to the rank of Project M’s number one player using a character many consider mid-tier, Xayya Thomas “ThundeRzReiGN” Thammavongsa is the man to beat. Following his victory at The Bigger Balc back in May, Duct Tape Productions have produced a short documentary, hoping to show the world who ThundeRzReiGN really is.

Talking to other NorCal players and his SoCal rival Sosa, this video sheds light on how ThundeRz developed into the terrifying DK player we know today. From his first big performance at Final Boss to his current tournament winning streak, this documentary shows ThundeRz’s climb to the top of the PM mountain.

See the strange combo possibilities with King of Fighters XIV’S Ryo Sakazaki in Version 2.01

While Ryo’s shoto-eqsue style might be one of the dryer look fighting styles in King of Fighters XIV, Persona Entertainment‘s latest combo video shows us that the Kyokugenryu user has some new tricks up his sleeve in version 2.01.

The latest major patch allows Ryo to combo virtually any juggle state into his EX Zanretsuken. This additional tool is just another in a long list of corner-combo filler, such as parry-canceling his wall-splat causing C+D, and juggling after his fireball super Haou Shokouken. Max Mode is now scarier then ever for Ryo, turning any stray anti-air into a juggle opportunity.

Tekken 7 raises player blood pressure in Episode 8 of YogaFlame24’s “Top 5 Funny/Raging Moments of the Week”

YogaFlame24 continues bringing us some of the most hilarious and rage-filled moments in the fighting game community, with Episode 8 of his “Top 5 Funny/Raging Moments of the Week” series.  With the newly-released Tekken 7 now in the hands of the masses, there’s yet another title that can provide hilarious sodium-chloride-filled moments for our enjoyment.

This week, we have some more NSFW meltdowns from players streaming the new 3D fighter, an unsuspecting Ed player literally slipping on a banana peel, and Secret|Poongko paying dearly for a taunt. You can experience all the salt and rage with the full video below, but be mindful of your own blood pressure when viewing.

Mikado Arcade’s Street Fighter Carnival 9 continues with Street Fighter EX 2, King of Fighters 98′ Tournaments

World Famous Mikado Arcade’s month long tournament series Street Fighter Carnival 9 marches on! Recently the Mikado patrons paid a visit to Capcom (And Arika’s!) Street Fighter EX2. While there’s no doubt in my mind that Mikado would play this game anyways, it’s interesting to analyze it now that Arika has their own spin on the series in the works.

You may remember from SSFC2016’s King of Fighters 98′ tournament that there was an excellent Brian/Lucky player cleaning house. Well, he’s back, and his Sports team is as fun to watch play as he was before. I wonder what sort of pop Lucky/Heavy/Battler would get as DLC in King of Fighters XIV…
