As anticipation builds for Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, one group over at world-famous Mikado Arcade in Japan wants you to remember your roots. Dougeki over at Mikado informed us they just recently completed their second event for “Marvel Super Heroes.”
MSH was Capcom’s second foray into Marvel Fighting Games, and is the direct predecessor of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. If you want to know more about the game, or see more of Mikado’s expert play in the classics, be sure to check out their first tournament, too!
Thanks to Dougeki for the tip. You guys are awesome.
One of the big under-the-hood changes that Tekken 7 brings is the actual engine running it. For the first time ever, Bandai Namco has eschewed building a proprietary engine and has instead used Unreal Engine 4 as the base on which to build their game.
In the first of a new series of videos, Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada and Michael Murray discuss the reasons why they brought the game onto UE4 and what challenges they had to face.
The gist of it lies in the fact that building a proprietary engine for the game would simply take up too much time. By using an engine such as UE4, they can simply concentrate on making the game itself. Along the way, they talk about the many advantages that UE4 brings, such as using the engine’s built-in animation and physics system, as well as how easy it was to go from working on the code to actually testing the game out.
Last weekend, many weeks of Friday night Street Fighter V action reached its culmination at the ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational finals. The road to the finals itself over the past few months has seen some amazing performances and surprising upsets, while at the same time solidifying certain players’ perceived dominance at the game.
In a new video, FGC News goes over the finals of ELEAGUE; specifically, they go over the competition between the final four players, BX3’s Armand “Phenom” Hanjani, Grpt|Keita “Fuudo” Ai, CYG BST|Eduardo “PR Balrog” Perez, and eventual champion Panda Global’s Victor “Punk” Woodley.
In addition to this, they also interview Punk regarding his thoughts on the game. These include who he thinks the top 3 Street Fighter V players are at the moment, his own ELEAGUE experience, as well as what his plans are moving forward–including whether or not he’ll stick to Karin.

A lady wrestler from one fighting game universe takes the place of another in this PC mod for Street Fighter V: this one makes R. Mika the spitting image of Angel from The King of Fighters XIV. A demonstration of the mod in action can be seen in the video below.
With their charismatic attitudes, flashy wrestling moves, and player popularity, R.Mika and Angel actually have quite a bit in common–and the parallels between the two are sure to have already been drawn by those who are fans of both Street Fighter V and The King of Fighters. As of June 4th, you can get the mod for free directly from its creator, THEJAMK.

Lastly, VesperArcade has kept busy of course–now offering beginner combo guides for the Joker and Black Adam:
In his latest video, VesperArcade takes a look at “Menat”–the new Street Fighter V character revealed in Ed’s character story mode. As discussed previously, the fortune teller bears a striking resemblance to the second-last silhouette in the Season 2 teaser image–leading us to wonder if she’s one of the playable “all-new” fighters promised for later this year.
In the video, VesperArcade compares the convincing silhouette match-up, and how the outline in question was also widely considered to be the doll Satsuki. More interesting, however, is how Menat’s arrival was predicted by an old leaked character list (that made the rounds before Ed was even revealed) that describes Menat, an Egyptian girl that is Rose’s apprentice. “Fate is a fixed line…” after all…
Now, even Menat’s name is not officially confirmed, the story mode only dubs her as “Fortune Teller.” However, Rose’s CFN Portal profile does indicate that she took on an apprentice. The combined evidence is pretty compelling that we’re far from done with this character. VesperArcade also speculates on how a fighter like Menat might play in Street Fighter V, taking her design and association with Rose into account.
In the video below, Tekken developers Katsuhiro Harada and Michael Murray elaborate on Tekken 7’s tournament mode and it’s character development in two new videos from Bandai Namco. The two have both been working on the Tekken series for many years, and it’s interesting to hear them share the logic behind the decisions they make behind the scenes.
With Tekken 7’s tournament mode, Harada says he had players who have a “competitive spirit” but are not too fond of losing in ranked matches in mind. He hopes it can be used as a tool to facilitate a competitive environment that is not ruled by points or victories, but but the desire to challenge friends who enjoy the game just for fun.
In regard to character development, Harada and Murray both confirm that there are some characters they create that are intended for beginners to easily pick up and play, but the accessibility of these characters does not mean they don’t take skill to master or win tournaments with. Though balance is kept in mind during the development process, Harada points out that it is not a driving force behind a character’s creation, but rather a result of the sum of all of the elements that come together in a solid fighter.
It’s always great to get insight from developers–but you’ll be able to see the results for yourself When Tekken 7 hits the shelves on June 2nd. Check out our own review by Crow_Spaceboy here.
