GINX Esports TV show “The Bridge” interviews Gootecks; talks ELEAGUE, Cross Counter, and more

Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez sat down with the hosts of “The Bridge”–a GINX Esports TV show, based out of the United Kingdom–to talk about his ELEAGUE experience. The 20-minute interview is dense with information, covering topics from his start in the FGC to his present-day appearances. (And I do mean appearances, in every sense of the word.)

Gootecks goes into his humble beginnings as a video maker for Family Fun Arcade, producing podcasts and tournament videos for his local Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike scene. It’s a stark difference from the heart of the interview: his sudden and surprising appearance on TBS’s ELEAGUE. Gootecks seems well aware of his place among the ELEAGUE cast, and even comments on how this was an opportunity to stand out from the pros. He also gives his hot take on who expects to see in top 8, and what he expects of the show’s production going forward.

Double’s Braixen brings her entire squad in this support combo compilation for Pokkén Tournament

One of the primary reasons for Braixen’s status as a top tier character in Pokkén Tournament: her ability to both charge her supports faster than other characters, and then cancel into those supports. These unique abilities coupled with some high level techniques such as Flame Charge CancelSunny Dash, and others give her a terrifying list of powerful, flexible options for every situation. Pokkén player Double has decided to take the arduous task of compiling all of these options into video, one support set at a time.

Both sets show why Braixen’s support cancel ability is so strong–Emolga’s speed debuff is now a threat off any connected hit, and with a fast-charging Snivy, she has both anti-air and constant ground pressure available. The fact that Braixen can also convert into, and out of, the high-damage Lapras is downright silly, but perhaps is more trivia then tournament-worthy. Double has also provided an overlay showing the inputs of the combos. Those that have wanted to get the most efficient Enhanced Sunny Day setups, but are having trouble with the input will find this visual reference quite useful.

There will be a Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 demo for PlayStation 4, Aksys Games announces

Yesterday, the Aksys Games fighting game Twitter account, All-Aksys, featured a “First Look at Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2” session. The nearly two-hour stream brought some gameplay from the upcoming title and showcased the newcomers, Answer and Baiken.

James Xie commentated the stream and provided useful, explanatory commentary during a series of round robin matches. At 1:05 hour, he answered a hotly debated question: “Will there be a demo?” It turns out REV 2, will, in fact, have a demo version available to players before the game’s release on May 26th.

-REVELATOR- offered a similar deal. Those who pre-ordered the title were able to download a demo on April 1st and April 5th, for the Japanese and English versions, respectively. It’s probably safe to assume that the REV 2 demo will come out sometime before the end of April, though there are no more details available now, other than the fact that it will only be for PlayStation 4 users.

What’s more complicated, however, is how those who opt to upgrade their copy of -REVELATOR- will be able to get their hands on the demo. There is no way to pre-order the DLC upgrade, currently. The company has not yet responded to the question via Twitter.

Aksys Games will also promote the demo at certain West Coast tournaments:

Stay tuned to SRK as Aksys Games peels away more details about REV 2 and view the stream below for some quality Guilty Gear play.

VesperArcade tries out the buffed Ryu online in Street Fighter V’s PC CFN beta test

VesperArcade has done a bang-up job of breaking down the changes that are coming to Street Fighter V in this April’s balance patch. However, it’s one thing to break down a list of changes, it’s another to to actually test those out in the game!

With Street Fighter V recently having a free PC beta to test the upcoming CFN changes, VesperArcade took this chance to try out the changes to Ryu. Now, Ryu is currently one of those characters that just doesn’t feel as strong to most players as he did in Season 1. In his previous video, Vesper stated that Ryu’s buffs would help him, but that they wouldn’t be enough. Does his prediction come true? Check out how he does online with Ryu version 2.1 in the video below.

Jack-O’s minions take an explosive turn: This Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- tutorial will teach you the setups

Did you know there’s a tower defense minigame in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-? It plays every time someone selects “Jack-O’” in the character select screen.

Guilty Gear’s Halloween prankster brings out a little army of minions whenever she sets houses. Those houses level up and spew little magicians, knights, and spearmen. That’s not all in Jack-O’s arsenal, however. She has access to an organ that includes a few commands: calling back minions, engaging a projectile shield, powering up minions, and, well… blowing them up after three seconds for massive damage.

This video tutorial from GodPress shows how exactly to employ the detonation command in matches. Not only does this result in extremely powerful (but not flawless) pressure, but the damage tends to be enough to win the round. GodPress found a variety of mixups and strategies that can even counter Bursting.

Check out the Jack-O’ bomb setups video below; the informative graphics and notations make it particularly impressive to watch.

Frabisaur examines crossups in the first Fighter’s Dojo mini-episode

In an effort to cover additional topics left undiscussed in his normal videos for the sake of time or clarity, Frabisaur has released the first Fighter’s Dojo Mini! This supplemental video provides a brief look at the concept of crossups. Frabisaur explains the crossups are possible in games that lack a block button, because developers placing a marker in the center of each character model that allows the game to tell which side of the screen they’re on–and which direction they need to be blocking in. Showing a clip of Akuma jumping over Ryu, he points out that the moment where Ryu’s head and body start to turn to follow Akuma in the air is the point at which he can be crossed up with an attack.

Finally, after using Zangief’s Body Splash as a visual aid of a crossup hitbox, Frabisaur shows off every single crossup currently in Street Fighter V, noting that some are visually ambiguous, but can be consistently blocked with practice.

You can see the full video above, and check out the other episodes of the Fighter’s Dojo: covering where to begin in fighting games, offense and defense, and hitboxes and hurtboxes. You can also follow him on Twitter at Frabisaur or watch his streams at twitch.tv/frabisaur for more content and concept explanations.

Green Arcade player pulls off 95%+ damage Akuma combo in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution match

Tekken players are no strangers to high damage combos! In a game series where average combo damage can be 30~50% depending on the starter, it’s something you become accustomed to over time. It’s not even surprising when combo videos show off 90-100% combos–because most of them require specific stage positioning and unlikely scenarios that wouldn’t occur in a real match.

None of that can be said here: the Bryan player “begin” was on the verge of sealing a round, when he went for an option perhaps a little to fancy for his own good: a fake taunt cancel into d+4. By cancelling the knee too early, the anticipatory full jump from a Korean player (his tag is 아쿠마, which phonetically is just “Akuma”) connected, then all sixteen hells broke loose.

The combo came from a long set between the two top players, which you can watch below:

It’s worth noting that all of this came from the newly-nerfed Akuma in version 3.8. While this combo still requires incredible stage awareness, meter management, and one hell of a read, it cannot be underlined enough how scary a full meter–and Rage–is for Akuma players in Tekken 7.

Take a closer look at The King of Fighters XIV’s upcoming stages in this new trailer

Notable content included in the upcoming version 2.00 update to The King of Fighters XIV are the additional two new stages, which will be provided to all players free of charge.

A pair of classic backgrounds, “Transcontinental Railroad,” Terry Bogard’s stage from Fatal Fury 2, and “City Circuit,” first seen in KOF ’97, will be returning on April 5th. To celebrate, SNK released a trailer displaying both of these stages in all their 3D glory, set to a remix of Terry’s stage theme, “Kuri Kinton Flavor.” This provides a great look at the detail of these stunning backgrounds, including Mount Rushmore and the various signs that can be seen as the fighters battle upon the Transcontinental Railroad’s moving train.
