For Honor–depending upon who’s opinion you ask for–is Ubisoft’s first crossing into the world of fighting games. A community has already begun to coalesce around this strange over-the-shoulder fighter, and the way it’s being played by its top players is quite fascinating.

Klyka’s “Class Warfare”series has some of the best examples you can find of the inner workings of For Honor‘s combat right now. Showing off high-level matches from each of the players’ perspectives is a great idea, and getting the players to break down what they were thinking about during the matches is both educational and entertaining. When Kensei player EnderVexc casually mentions “He feinted an attack, so I feinted a parry attempt so that I can parry his parry,” I knew I was watching some special.

As both players have been playing their mains since the Beta, they show off impressive tech, footsies, and mind games. If this series progresses, hopefully the meta will remain as interesting as it is here!

In order to help fans prepare for the story mode of Injustice 2, History Behind the Warrior has been recapping the events of the Injustice: Gods Among Us prequel comic. The comic takes place five years before the start of the game–from the perspective of Superman and the Regime. Now he arrives at the events of Injustice’s Story Mode, with the Regime now fully in power at this point. This video is a great summarized look at the lore from the first game, for those who are looking for a recap or jumping right into the series with the upcoming sequel, which will be set a few years after the first game.

Next, he plans on continuing the series with a look at the History of Batman, looking at these events through the eyes of the Dark Knight and his insurgency.

Improving at any fighting game involves a lot of moving parts: you need to work on your personal tendencies as a player, along with your technical knowledge of the game, and your execution on that knowledge. One of the easiest of these points of improvement to work on is your character’s damage output–luckily, optimizing combos isn’t something you have to do alone!

Helping you along today in optimizing your damage output in Street Fighter V is JusticeSoulTuna, who has compiled some optimized Juri combos off of corner jump-ins. Demonstrated here are several high-damage combos for her, using a variety of resources.

One of the most-hyped events coming up in the world of Smash has to be Civil War, with the much anticipated 10v10 crew battle between Team Ally and Team ZeRo. This exhibition set includes a hefty prize pool–$10,000, split among the winning team–leaving a lot more than pride on the line!

In gearing up for this event, while some are simply are looking forward to enjoying the intense battles to come, others can’t help but voice their support for either team. One such fan, The Wolf Champ, took it upon themselves to make a fan-trailer for the crew battle, featuring samples from past Super Smash Bros. events.

Last weekend Winter Brawl had a healthy showing all around, but Mortal Kombat X particularly had a nice turnout. Even with Injustice 2 looming around the corner, many players still get excited about the latest Mortal Kombat iteration, with just one example being the latest Philly tourney.

With the booming attention being brought back to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, many are dusting off their skills to get back into the fight. While new players are getting acclimated to the game, old players who’ve been building their tech over the years naturally have a thing or two to teach the newcomers!

Today we’re looking at one such teaching: one of the most troublesome characters–if improperly dealt with–is Phoenix, thanks to her resurrecting with all the cosmic powers of the entity she draws energy from. This setup ensures that, with Firebrand’s unblockable swoop and some crafty setups, he can properly deal with just about anything Phoenix comes back into play with.

Muscle Power for Urien, on wakeup!

The wakeup Aegis Reflector is hardly a foolproof technique, but it can definitely cause your ‘Gief some grief if you’re caught off-guard by one. For students of Muscle Power, ThePrince offers this video demonstrating means to punish Urien for trying this tactic on the Red Cyclone.

Aside from a straight-up Spinning Pile Driver or Bolshoi Russian Suplex to catch Urien immediately, the video also explores means to recover and capitalize on being hit by the Reflector, depending on Urien’s next action–including going over the top to catch Urien with a Borsht Dynamite, dragging him through the Reflector towards you with the Cyclone Lariat, and more.
