North American World of Warcraft players can now head into the game to take part in the first chapter of the War of Thorns, the pre-event setting up the Battle for Azeroth expansion that will launch on August 14th. The War of Thorns content will be split out over the next three weeks as the tensions escalate between Horde & Alliance.

World of Warcraft – Duncan Jones Shows Off Behind-the-Scenes Clips from the Warcraft Movie
Duncan Jones directed 2016’s Warcraft movie that is replete with special effects (aren’t all movies these days?). Over the past day or two, Jones has been sharing a bunch of clips on Twitter. They show off behind-the-scenes action, including a troll invasion of Stormwind that was later cut from the film to shorten its duration. You can also see a bit of Karazhan and Elwynn Forest.
World of Warcraft – Blizzard Bids Good-Bye to the Battle Chest – Everything Through Legion Simply Requires a Subscription
Now that we are in the lead up to Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard has announced that all content through Legion is available without actually having to purchase the game. You will still need to, however, maintain a subscription to access all that content. In addition, and if you wish to take part in the Battle for Azeroth content, you will need to purchase the expansion.
World of Warcraft – Blizzard Previews Communities, a New Feature Coming in Battle for Azeroth
The World of Warcraft site has been updated with a preview of a new featuring coming with the Battle for Azeroth expansion in August. Communities allow players to “create, manage, and join multiple groups of friends and family”. These groups can be themed around anything such as pet collection, class communities, role playing, PvP or anything else that comes to mind. Communities can also be created “cross game”.
World of Warcraft – Blizzard Previews the 1v1 Dueler’s Guild
When Battle for Azeroth launches in World of Warcraft, players will be able to take part in a number of PvP activities including the brand new 1v1 Dueler’s Guild. Players will be able to queue for Dueler’s Guild from their respective faction cities of Boralus or Zuldazar and then head into battle against a single opponent in a fight to the death. Completing these duels will earn Conquest that will count towards the weekly “War Chest”.
World of Warcraft – Blizzard Cracking Down on Group Finder Advertising + Bonus Roll: 3 Players Defeat Argus
Blizzard is cracking down on group finder advertising. The move is directed at groups forming to offer boosts that are “often used as a cover for real-money sales, particularly given that in-game gold cannot be transferred cross-realm” the post reads. The policy to remove those types of groups is in force as of today, July 2nd and a new reporting option for “advertising” will be added with the v8.0 pre-patch update in a week or two.

With the Battle for Azeroth pre-event slated to start sometime in mid-July, it’s time for savvy players to check out the things that will be going away forever once we start down the road to BfA. There is a new post on the World of Warcraft community site that lays out which things will be disappearing and what you can do to make sure your ducks are in a row. Starting right now, the Artifact Retirement quest is now live that will, until the pre-event starts, ramp up power a LOT.
