Warcraft has now earned more money worldwide than any other movie based on a video game. China alone with its $204M in ticket sales has brought in nearly half of the $412M generated worldwide. According to GlobalVoices.org, the movie hits a nostalgic note with what some call the “Warcraft Generation” for its singular devotion to the IP.

World of Warcraft players are expressing displeasure at a new version of the Legion alpha that has removed the ability to move the camera back from a player’s location by using a known console command “/console CameraDistanceMaxFactor 4”. The majority of player, many of them raiders, have been active in the discussion saying that it hampers a raid leader’s ability to effectively direct other players, most keenly felt by those who are melee.

Today’s World of Warcraft live stream event featured a curated series of questions about how crafting and professions will be changing with the launch of the Legion expansion in September.

With two months until the launch of Legion, development on Warcraft’s latest expansion has been surging ahead. In his report, Gareth Harmer takes a closer look at the zone of Azsuna.

Ion Hazzikostas was on hand with Community Manager Josh Allen during a live stream event to answer community-submitted questions about World of Warcraft: Legion. The answers revealed a few interesting nuggets of information about several different topics.

With World of Warcraft, any time an impending update lands on the public test realm, it means that deployment on live servers is not far away. With that in mind, the WoW community site has been updated with the news that the pre-expansion patch, the so-called “bridging” patch to span Warlords to Legion, has arrived on the PTR. All interested players can now log in to see some of Legion’s signature systems in play including the new transmog system, the overhauled PvP system, etc.

The World of Warcraft team will be participating in weekly developer Q&A sessions via the Warcraft Twitch.tv channel. The series will be focused on answering questions about the upcoming Legion expansion. Fans and players can join up for the first session on Thursday, June 16th at 11:00 am Pacific / 2:00 pm Eastern.

Early last week, Blizzard hosted a Legion preview event to give press and integral community members a chance to talk in small groups to members of the World of Warcraft development team. Given it began at 10:30 the morning after the Warcraft: The Beginning world premiere, all were a bit bleary-eyed. That’s not to say, however, that there weren’t some great nuggets of information to be had.

The Warcraft movie has smashed Chinese box office records, even surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Opening day generated a whopping $47M in ticket sales compared to about $30M for Star Wars. This is compared to what analysts expect will be about $25M for US audiences.
