– What CRPGs Still Do Better Than Modern RPGs
RPGs have come a long way since isometric CRPGs ruled the PC gaming landscape. Roleplaying games today are cinematic, action-packed, and feature more mechanical hooks than any two other genres combined. But for all of their advancements, there’s still something CRPGs do better and it’s important. This week in the RPG Files, we discuss exactly what that is.

Alex Jebailey Talks to theScore about the Importance of Investment in the FGC
Alex Jebailey is a trendsetter within the Fighting Game Community. Having a history of running successful events with his CEO brand of tournaments–as well as working for Dreamhack–he has made quite the name for himself.
Earlier in the month, Jebailey was invited to speak at the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2017 Business of Sports event. He has since talked to theScore about the experience. He talked about the importance of sponsorship within the FGC, as well as the low risk factor in companies getting involved. “The FGC is a pretty cheap space compared to other esports,” he stated. “They could give me 100 grand and I could run a successful event. To them, 100 grand is just another day of their budgeting.”
He further discussed sports companies’ decisions to get involved, stating, “Obviously it is about the money to any business, that’s how they work… A lot of them were just inspired by how fast it’s growing, and wondering where do they come in.”

Tune In to Some Unique Kum Haehyun Combos from a New Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Video
A newcomer to Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Kum Haehyun feels very different from the rest of the cast. Most readily compare him to a Street Fighter character, as he has difficult links and generally shorter combos. Good Haehyuns distinguish themselves by aptly “tuning” their projectiles to set up dangerous situations for the opponent. While he’s far from popular in competitive Guilty Gear, that doesn’t mean his combo potential is sub-par.
There are creative uses of Kum’s Dust attack, impractical-but-hilarious combo starters that can result from trades or from a high RISK bar, and intense 22-hit sequences that can deliver the minimum damage to finish off Potemkin. Even if that’s hard to come by in a real match, maybe at least some of those Instant Kill confirms can work their way in for some memorable matches. Still, there’s plenty of damaging ones, and some showing off with double Overdrives.
Check out the full video below to get inspired to play the Korean character–and don’t forget about this must-see Jam combo video, covered previously.
