Smash.gg Interviews Alex Jebailey about Community Organization

Alex Jebailey certainly has been a force in the fighting game community, organizing two events a year, CEOgaming and CEOtaku, as well as being the FGC consultant for DreamHack. His busy schedule is filled by working with many major game companies, but he still finds the time to do the very job he started with: organizing tournaments.

Smash.gg, the site that runs registration for the probable majority of big tournaments today, interviewed Jebailey on video. The interview takes a background approach to tournament organization, which Jebailey prefers to call “event experiences.” He goes through some advice on how to promote said events, how Smash.gg impacted the nitty-gritty of tournament organization, and how to work out the logistics of running multiple major events.

It’s a great watch not just for a behind-the-scenes look, but also for those who are considering getting into organizing even small-scale events to support the fighting game community.

There’s a Mortal Kombat Easter Egg in For Honor

For Honor launched earlier this week, and the Samurai/Viking/Knight MOBA-like fighting game (maybe) might be getting some traction in the FGC. While time will tell whether the Ubisoft multiplayer game finds some place in online tournaments or events, an observant fan on Reddit spotted a connection between the medieval setting and Mortal Kombat.

Reddit user Lacront uploaded an image with a closeup on a certain element. The bridge in the back features a pair of characters duking it out; any veteran fan of Mortal Kombat will be quick to make the association: it’s most likely a reference to Blaze and Hornbuckle, who can be seen as early as in Mortal Kombat II’s Pit II stage. It’s a nice nod from Ubisoft designers to the venerated series from Midway/NetherRealm Studios. Check it out below, and click the image for a bigger version.
