Final Fantasy XIV – Egg-Citing Hatching-Tide Event to Begin April 4th

Final Fantasy XIV players will be able to take part in the annual Hatching-Tide event beginning April 4th and running through April 17th. During the special ‘egg-citing’ season, players will be able to earn a “reporgrammed eggshilaration system” for the duration. Yeah…riding a colored Easter egg as it lumbers through the air.

Damascus chats with Sven, a blind Street Fighter V competitor at Sonic Boom in Madrid, Spain

The top-placing players aren’t the only ones getting attention at Europe’s first Capcom Pro Tour stop.

Win or lose, overcoming a physical handicap to play the video games you love is certainly a noteworthy achievement in itself–and blindness is certainly a massive obstacle to competing in a fighting game. But losing his sight to cancer in his youth didn’t stop Sven van de Wege from learning to play Street Fighter–and other fighting games, too–by relying on sound instead of sight. He competed at the Sonic Boom event in Madrid, Spain this past weekend–and while he didn’t tear through the whole bracket, he still didn’t go 0-2, either!

Want to be judge at Evo 2017? Applications are now open!

Want to cover Evo? Media pass applications are open now, too.

Want to help run a bracket at the world’s biggest fighting game event? It’s a fantastic way to meet and interact with some of your favorite competitors, playing your favorite games–and help out the fighting game community as well. Applications are now open on the Evo site to put in your name to be a Tournament Judge at Evolution 2017.

The Tournament Judge role is a volunteer position, and is certainly hard work–but there are some nice perks. Food will be provided for the days you judge on, for all judges on Friday and Saturday–and judges also receive the official Tournament Judge T-shirt! Interested applicants should be familiar with a double-elimination bracket, and are required to provide their own transportation and lodging in Las Vegas.

If you are part of a media organization and want to cover the Evolution 2017 event, media badge applications are also now open. Head over to the application page to see if you are eligible for a media pass.

Evo 2017 is at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 14-16, 2017.
